SonicSonedit
First of all, this thread is about classic katars. Not, Cestus, not claws, not Sai-like blades - this thread is about classic katars. So, what are katars and how they will fit in Warframe universe? Katars are weapons used by assasin characters in video games. They are famous for a quick series of combination attacks dealing devastating damage to a single target. They are also famous for their extraordinary design and attack animations. Assasin Warframe such as Ash has a perfect concept for assasin weapons such as katars. Other Frames which will look good with Katars are Nyx, Saryn, Excalibur, Loki, Volt and probably upcoming Berserker frame. Most of nimble and assasin-like frames will do. They will also probably look good on Trinity. Now, about design: First of all, they should not look plain, but still look like katars, not some Claws or Sai or Celtus. One of the best designs of Katars I've see is this: Source: art by Chael on Deviant Art http://www.deviantart.com/art/Chantrea-katars-71540606 They still looks like classic katars, yet they have a lot of details and Their form catches your eye! Example of bad design: http://www.stkp.com/POSER/katar.jpg - plain; boring. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a357/_Jude_/katar.jpg - plain; boring; doesn't look like a Katar really. http://sworddueling.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/katar111bh9.jpg - Looks more like a rapier. http://www.stormthecastle.com/how-to-make-a/voldos-katars/the-completed-katars.jpg - doesn't look like a katar. Stats and in-game mechanics: Mastery Rank: 4 or 5. On normal attacks Katars use a combination of both punching animations from fists/claws and slashing animation of swords/daggers (mostly daggers). Your can run while attacking. Can hit up to 3 targets with each slashing animation. Damage Type: Serrated Blade Damage Amount: 25 Attack rate: 1,6 attacks/sec Crits: 25% chance 200% damage Basically it's a bit faster version of Dual Ether with some crits. On charged attack Katars use a combo of extremely fast punching animation directed on a single target. Both you and your target can't move while animation is in progress. Animation can be interrupted by enemy. Target enemy is always stunned/staggered while animation is in progress. Animation has a series of 8 hits and last for 1,6 seconds, can be shortened by charge time mods (if not techinacally possible - 0,8 sec animation). Only one target is hit. Bosses cannot be stunned/staggered by this attack, they can't move, but still can attack you and use any skill. Player can interrupt this attack any moment by pressing Reload button, jump button or block button. Damage Type: Armor Piercing Damage Amount: 25*8. Charge Time: 1,5 seconds Crits: 50% chance 300% damage Plays some "sharp" sound effect while charging. Please note: charged attack always hits only 1 target, can be interrupted and you can't move or do anything while it is in progress, so numbers above are reasonable. Also most of Heavy Grinneer units will probably interrupt it with their mini-stun if you try to perform it head-on. And don't forget about Toxic ancient, yeah. tigrex
with those stats it would more fit for mr 6 and higher Edited November 18, 2013 by tigrex
Slurmageddon
It would add a little variety to our "fist" weapons, which thusfar consist of just the Furax and Ankyros

Check out Galatine stats - and Galatine can take out up to 5 enemies with a single swing. And please, no "Galatine is op!!1" comments, Galatine is the first usable melee weapon (except Glaive) for a long time. And on normal attacks its pretty much Dual Ether which has a mastery rank requirement of 0. Edited November 18, 2013 by SonicSonedit

Sidathe
Actually, the Sai-like blade is a form of Katar. There wasn't really a standard pattern beyond oversized punching dagger.

LascarCapable
Meh : the 3rd "bad exemple" you shown is actually not that bad, and your "good exemple" is too "heroic-fantasy" looking for the actual game. Katars in games are usually fast CQC weapons that deals good damages in a few time, and a S#&$load with crits. 25 damages is fine, but the attack succession should be 2.0 attacks/second IMO. I'm really fine with the high crit chances. Charged attack should be a wide slash with both blades dealing a great burst of damage more than a fast succession : you would have already that with the classical attack If your weapon is well modded. 200 (25 x 8) for the charge attack seemed too low for me, but with a 50% crit chance and a 300% crit bonus... Well, that's the spirit. For the bad sides of the weapon, we would notice a lack of range, and the impossibility to hit more than one enemy with each it (except maybe for the jump attack one). So it would be a basically really high DPS CQC weapon for 1v1 usage. That's how I see it. Anyway, nice idea. Daidaiiro
Katars... awesome. DE must put this into the game.
Exo594
Ash has these. Your second example of a "bad" design is gaudy and godly. Perfect for the game. #3 is also pretty @(*()$ awesome. Just because it has a basket hilt does not make it a "rapier".
