Long Term Quality Of Life

First things first, we all know that Warframe is currently in Beta. We're all Beta testing the game. Of course it's a fun game, but one thing that is coming up alot is a long term quality of life enhancement to make the game less repetitive the longer the game is played. This isn't about adding new warframes or weapons. So here's the pitch:

The game is very repetitive at higher total play hours due to a number of factors. These include: tilesets, enemy units, mission types and gameplay factors.

  • DE is constantly working on new tilesets and additional tiles for already existing tilesets. Therefore this isn't so much of a big deal, but what would YOU want to see in a tileset?
  • Of course, many people speculate that DE will rework every boss in the game to be unique (Golem, Vorr, etc). DE can easily add new units to the game. Have you had any thoughts to adding a new faction? What new enemy units/bosses/factions do you want to see in the game?
  • DE is currently creating new, more engaging mission types that will replace some old mission types. What mission types do you find a drag to play, and what mission types would you want to see?
  • Currently there are a few in game elements that we have. These include the limited parkour, stealth play, corpus security cameras, alarm terminal mini-game, and Orokin traps. Are there any in-game elements you would want?

- Forest, Volcano, Underwater, Ruined City tilesets

- New faction: Orokins // New units: Digger, Flying and Ranged Infested, Vehicles and Turrets Grineer, Mech and Traps Corpus

- I'd like to see a new 'Mobile Defense' where we are really mobile. Defending a moving object from constant enemy's assault (like Payload from Global Agenda). And a whole new mission that is 100% parkour based.

- In game elements i'd like to see: more wild-life in open maps, storyline/lore, more stuff that needs to play cooperative to move on

I'd like to see a parkour map with few enemies but they are all heavies.

Greater variety of defense maps, we only have 7 of them and pretty much everyone only plays map c.

- Forest, Volcano, Underwater, Ruined City tilesets

- New faction: Orokins // New units: Digger, Flying and Ranged Infested, Vehicles and Turrets Grineer, Mech and Traps Corpus

All this

Also new units that have ways of dealing with warframes powers. This could range anywhere from napalms melting snowglobe (made a thread about it before) to some units being completely immune to powers. Immune is in, they can walk through bastille, they don't get primed, and they are immune to all ability damage.

- Dark forest/Jungle tileset (the labyrinthian jungles of utopian sci-fi's venus, hehe, could have lots of critters, jungle troopers)
- Snowy Alps/Peaks (high risk vertical parkour and fighting between small platforms, zip lines, wall running at great heights)
- Solar power array in low orbit of the sun (you get fried if you don't stay out of the heat, life degenerates)
- Orbital debris (very hard to navigate and with many free falling sections, have to dodge debris or get damaged, shields degenerate)
- Ship hull (have to replenish shields constantly as in vaacuum, shields degenerate)
- Clan dojo (this custom map could be used for defense type missions)

Currently, no weapon elemental mod is actively detrimental to a squad's well-being, so it would be interesting to see special units or bosses that actually take advantage of some of these elemental mods.

For example, a Grineer unit with a special suit whose portable energy source isn't enough to fully power it - but if you make the mistake of hitting it with enough electrical damage, the unit's suit charges fully, its full arsenal is utilized, and suddenly you have a much bigger threat on your hands. (This happened to me in a dream, it was rather terrifying. xD) It sure would require coordination and care among squad members in the field, and some forethought when cramming mods into your weapons.

Wow, I love all these ideas. My own personal idea would be a "Space Invasion". We're space ninjas, sure. But we only seem to be taking missions on larger ships and permenant installations. A "Space Invasion" would instead take place in space itself, around a bunch of smaller ships and the space between them. For the sake of the mission, lets say there are a bunch of enemy ships that have been EMP'd. You start in the airlock of a Tenno ship, and as soon as you exit the mission would be 0 gravity.  You would slowly loose oxygen while outside a ship, but regain it while inside any ship. The objective could be anything.

Some would say this idea sucks, but I would beg to differ:

- A refreshing new tileset

- New enemy units

- Adding much greater depth to the Warframe universe

- New mechanics such as 0G combat and movement

- Promotes different styles of gameplay

Tilesets I'd like to see:

-Ruined Cityscape/colony. Constant warfare and march of the Grineer left their mark. Many oppertunities for parkour in such a place, and parts of it could crumble under your feet at random if you climb the wrong ruined building.

-Grineer Fortress/base planet side.

-Functioning Cityscape/colony densely populated. Like thinking running and jumping rooftop to rooftop, while corpus blast at you under a night sky, searching for the right building with the occasional civilian (dressed like the rescue hostage) screams and runs panicing from you as you search for your objective.

New faction I'd like to see:

-Council Agents. We've heard the council mentioned while killing Hek, Lotus chiming in to say, "Hek has many enemies, killing Hek could gain us favor with the council." So maybe some sort of group of shadow agents, Stalker could be affiliated too, that work for the council doing blackops. Tenno clash against them infilitrating their bases and ships to grab secrets or treasures council members have entrusted to their care.

- A truly alien force, like with tech equal to the Orokin, thats bent on invading the origin system and the Tenno are the first best line of defense against. They're clearly not human, and may have operatives as skilled and powerful as the Tenno and their warframes.

Mission types amd gameplay mechanics I'd like to see:

-A mission that focuses on stealth over combat, and gives huge whopping bonuses if you manage to make it through without killing a single enemy. Like tons of cash and xp if you manage to get in, grab the objective and get out without alerting or killing any enemies.

-Missions that make you choose what to do, with rewards and consquences for each choice. Like go into a mission and Lotus says, "... we've got a problem Tenno. I know I sent you here for an artifact, but they've got a hostage. If you grab the artifact, they kill the hostage, and if you grab the hostage the artifact is locked off. You will have to choose what to save."

-Missions that give more depth to the Tenno. We're faceless assassins with no memory right now, perhaps theres missions where we play a flashback to that particular frames past, unlockable only to certain frames on certain worlds. Basically the frame enters the area and has sort of a painful return of memory, and then camera zooms into their head, revealing a similar scene from centuries past where we take control and playthrough.

+1

But DE would need to be careful on the mobile defense thing.  As we all know, the hardest and most annoying scenes in any game are the ones where you have to defend some idiot that just runs out and gets himself killed instantly, thus making you fail the mission.  Anyone who has played coastal highway in ODST on legendary with all skulls on knows what I'm talking about.  Doing that will scar you for life, I swear.  But that's an extreme example.

Personally i don't think keep adding new tileset/enemies/stage/mission type will help in the longest run, since it's only good for a short moment for veteran player. Right now i'm really excited about the new bosses overhaul and i think it would be great if there are mode that would allow us to fight low level bosses on a higher level, i.e. Captain Vor lvl 80. Fighting him is pretty fun, but because he is only lvl 9, or about 60 with Kril. But i really like to try my best to fight a stronger Vor with my best gear, see how far i can take him. Lvl 80 doesn't have to drop anything good, just make him there for fun.

I think what Warframe needs for longevity is the fact that our decisions should matter more. Gameplay should be more than a race in numerical value. Gameplay should be more engaging.

1. Builds in Warframe.

- Warframes are pretty no-brainer. Many mods are totally redundant. Core mods that you are going to need : Redirection, Flow, Streamline, Focus. TADA! Your build is complete. Next!

- Weapon is even more bland. Damage, AP, 3 Elemental damage mods. TADA! Your gun is complete. Next!

I think customization system requires more attention than this. There is an illusion of choice but no real choice that actually matters. I have to say that this system defies my initial expectation during the beginning of U7.

2. Enemy type.

- Better AI design and power. The AI is bland. They can't use any power to counter our powers. They need more varied abilities to attack player and defend themselves. Multiple topics have been dedicated to this particular subject.

3. Armor2.0 overhaul.

- Currently most anticipated addition in U10 for me. Don't know how it will turn out though.

4. Better loot system.

- Right now every gun and frame lives as long as player still farm and level it up to 30. I think it's a waste of time developing weapon just to stay new for 3 days. Comparatively, Warframe's loot system is like crafting a socketable sword and fill it with rune/gem to increase it's power. It surely works in offline game like FFVII. However, our neighbors Diablo, Torchlight, and PoE have a much more varied loots to play with. Warframe itself is a TPs dungeon crawler but loot system is rather abysmal.

5. Balancing reward between mission types and more engaging mission that actually different.

- Right now, ED is still the indisputable king in term of payout. Mods and resource are mainly reasonably acquired from defense. That leave other mission types rather pointless and just serve as a filler in the star map. Either limit the wave in defense (no longer endless) or give other types of mission a different rewards which are unattainable in defense.

- Mission types are too similar but DE already doing thing to remedy this matter.

Anyone like the idea of lighter, parkour based enemies? Lighter armour, slightly weaker weapons, and like to run around, wall run, slide, etc.

They would have to improve the AI enough to where pathing and decision would not be an issue. With their long list of fixes, improvements, etc, it may be a month or so before they would be able to even touch it.

But I agree, faster, more agile enemies would be great.

I would like to see custom melee and combat mods with custom animations.   Along with this we need more dangerous enemies instead of the bullet sponges we have now.  I made a post about it:  https://forums.warframe.com/index.php?/topic/68907-tenno-foundation-for-martial-excellence/#entry732001  This game is about space ninja combat..  Improving the combat itself is the key to improving the game and could in fact be the endgame.

I'd like to see the mighty orokins whose Lotus is talking about since a while.
If DE could implement few new units for infested that would be great.

There could be a air-based and a ranged-based one, which would improve the gameplay agaisnt infected.

Imagine for exemple a sort of infested corpus Osprey (or Drone) and an acid spitter !
