Feedback On Weapons/base Damage

posted this in someone elses thread but thought wth, might as well stick this here.

the idea is to take the base dmg mods like serration/hornet strike, split their %'s in half, and have the missing half now become a scaling % on the weapons themselves based on their ranks (unranked-30).

IE:

Current serration 15%-165%

New Serration: 15%-90%
Weapon Ranks: 2.5% dmg increase per weapon level
this would be a combined (when both max'd ofc) total up to the usual serration values but lets players manage and scale better without actually owning serration, they at least get something minor for their weapon rank.

this way there is "some" damage increase but not too much, gives ranking a weapon meaning, give an immediate benefit to the weapon in the same way that frame ranks give immediate energy/hp/shield increases and makes the actual serration mod a benefit but not a major necessity for starters.

Um... no thanks. Considering Hornet Strike does up to 205% (i think), Rifles need all the damage they can get to keep up with the secondaries.

It is an idea, but doesn't really... make sense on guns. How can being more proficient at holding and firing a gun suddenly make it stronger?

er did u read it properly?, you would lose no damage at all?  you simply re-distribute 1/2 the base dmg mods stats into the weapons themselves, and tbh the logic behind a gun magically being stronger per lvl isnt the issue, its just to assist new players in getting a small much needed damage increase when the rng gods dont smile upon them and drop serration/hornet strike?

atm all damage comes mostly from say serration

new system would mean serration is has 1/2 the stats as it does now, but the other half you just lost you get back form ranking up your weapon slowly, so at lvl 30 there would be no difference to what you have now.

only ofc for new players who dont have serration, they would only miss out on serrations 90% and in serrations case they would retain minor 2.5% dmg boosts per weapon rank to assist them, the total dmg output would be no different to now, its just distributed differently.

you DO get more damage out of your weapon as you use it! given that you get used to its recoil, learn how to aim and learn some leading if necessary.

i don't see how/why a gun would get more powerful with exp or time... except perhaps the biological ones

try reading some of the many threads on new player experience, what you say simply doesnt compute in any meaningful way for new players, what works is serration/etc ranked up a little, and if they dont get serration which is very common then their pretty much stuffed.

well new players are... new even if the gun had double damage if they don't learn to aim for weak spots they wont do damage and that is working as intended, at most you could make a fire training room, or some help messages indicating where to aim in the first levels.

by the way not only serration is not the only way to rise DPS but is the more costly one for any weapon without a catalyst or formas which they wont get anyway until later on when they should had learnt how to aim

correct, its most definatly a mod issue.

the proposed above would have absolutely no change/impact on players who have their max'd serrations with lvl30/forma'd/potatoed weapons, youd end up exactly the same, you lose nothing, however for new players they get small incrimental dmg boosts per weapon level to hold them over until the rng gods bless them with hornet strike/serration/point blank.

Could just GIVE new players a hornet strike and serration during the tutorial.

They are pretty much necessary anyway, and could easily be used in a "how to upgrade your mods" tutorial directly after the "congratulations, you picked up your first mod" tutorial.  This could tie in directly with the concept that weapons become more powerful with rank solely by giving them more mod points.

The "holy crap this thing sucks to max" tutorial comes long after familiarity with the game kicks in anyway, so that part isn't really a beginner issue.

tutorials/etc is extra lengthly work and they have stated their busy with other things first before they revisit the beginner experience, my little proposal could probably be easily applied and doesnt require any fancy tutorials and wouldnt really affect anyone whos already pimped/geared out.

the above could probably just sneak in via whichever minor update.

a tutorial of sort could be done with a few recorded lines from lotus and one "if sentence" to fire em when you just equipped an ability

your proposal needs a total rework of the weapon damage calculation and a progression system.  unless the game was made to work like that from the get go which seems unlikely, it is not easy.

believe me i work with IT.

ofc it doesnt need anything drastic, your talking about making serration etc 1/2 what they are now, im sure thats pretty easy, then all thats happening to weapons is them gaining innate base dmg increase per wpn lvl to bring the combined total up to serrations old value, again not a major thing.

thats just 2 small changes, 1 of which involves cutting a number in half.

we already have minor incrimental stat increases on the frames for energy/hp/shields, the weapons shouldnt be a big deal, its not like there needs to be work done to every weapon, your only talking about the values on 3 main mods, Hornet Strike, Point Blank and Serration, melee being fine due to how the current drop table works early on.

You know, I'm surprised that we haven't seen any player made tutorials for newbies stickied on the forums.

most would end up saying things like "you JUST need mod ABC/XYZ" and the tutorials would fall over pretty quick at a guess.
