Suggestion: Ammo Types

So now that we have 3 main types of damage (slash, impact, puncture) how about making them available as ammo types for each weapon?

 

Every weapon would keep its current stats but there would be an extra option for an ammo type, so for example, you have a weapon with strong impact, you could use a special ammo to make that impact even more powerful, or let's say, switch the main damage to puncture completely, making the weapon useful againts an other faction by default.

 

With this system it would be possible to turn every weapon into something useful and we wouldn't be limited to certain weapons regarding their damage field. You have a favorite weapon in looks and stuff but it does not do the type of damage you want by default? You could switch it!

 

Of course, some weapons would require unique ammo, for example, the Penta could get proxy mines which stick, instead of the default ammo which bounces everywhere.

 

This could also work for melee weapons but I don't know what could be changed, maybe the type of blade?

 

This system is straight ripped from BioShock, but knowing that DE worked on BioShock 2 to some extent, it would not be bad to see it in Warframe imo.

What's the point of weapons divided in three categories if you can change the main damage whenever you want?

 

You would not be restricted to certain weapons and could play with whatever you like? Everyone wins. I don't see how this could hurt the game.

 

Edit: Being forced to use certain weapons just because of their damage type is bad enough, at least for me.

It would kill the diversity. Take the strongest weapon and just change the ammo. One weapon to rule them all.

 

But currently there is no diversity at all, you are forced to use certain weapons and that's super boring. Seeing the top 3 weapons againts each faction ALL THE TIME is not diverse and sadly that's what I'm seeing most of the time. So what if someone would use one weapon for everything? There will always be people who prefer a different weapon, even if it's just looks or the main functionality (grenade, rocket, bolt, whatever). Plus this can't really apply to ALL the weapons due to some of them being purely elemental.

Currently it's Marelok for Corpus, Stug for Grineer, Akvasto for Infested. After your change it would be Marelok for everything. Period. No other weapon would ever matter.

 

Now we at least need to choose, to sacrifice something for something.

 

Maybe we should make just one primary, one secondary and one meele? Because it would be like this.

I, for example, hate all 3 you mentioned. Most people often use their favorites not what's "op" and that alone would make it ACTUALLY diverse.

Deal with it. You want the looks? Take what you like. You want the feel? Take what you feel the most. You want efficiency? Take what's efficient the most.

 

As I mentioned before, sacrifices.

 

I like the looks of the new concept car of Ferrari. I really do!

But I also like the diversity of Hummers.

If I want to show off, I'll ride my Ferrari. It won't do on any bumpy terrain, it's not efficient, it's just pure looks.

If I want to go into the wilderness, I'll take my Hummer, no matter how fugly it would be. Because it can deal with every terrain.

 

You want to look pretty - take your Sicarus Prime, or something, no matter how weak and inefficient it it.

You want to kill stuff - take whatever is the strongest, no matter how ugly it looks and how bad you are feeling using it.

 

That's the problem with people nowadays. Tey want to eat the cookie and have the cookie. They can not understand, that sometimes you need to choose. No! They want everything at once. And that's not how it works, nor how it'll ever work.

I'll make my sacrifices IRL, thanks, I don't need them in games where I want to purely have fun. If I want to be fancy and wreck S#&$, why can't I?

Besides, havin one weapon to rule them all is the opposite of fun. No choices at all, no time spent in the armory, wondering what would be the best choice for your next mission. Grineer? Just take Brakk and slap Puncture ammo. Infested? Just take Brakk and slap Slash ammo.

 

We can as well remove all the similar weapons. Scrap the Paris and Dread, since Cernos can deal Punture and Slash damage now. Scrap Braton and Dera, since Karak can deal Punture and Slash now.

What's not fun about ruling them all with the weapon you actually like? Brakk is ugly as hell and I hate it (while others may love it to death). It may not be fun for you, but it would be definitely fun for me. Plus, damage would not be the only factor in deciding what to use, there's still reload time, ammo, crit, crit chance, status chance, speed, accuracy...

 

Plus, you wouldn't even have to use the system if you hate it so much because it would be optional....
