Possible New Origin System Locations

I have started to put together a list of solar system objects that could be used as candidates for additional locations in Warframe.

Please note that these have to be real & named celestial objects, such as Planetary Moons, Minor Planets, Dwarf Planets, Protoplanets, Centaurs, Plutoids, Neptune Trojans, or Jupiter Trojans, confirmed by planetary scientists and astronomers, to be included on the list.

- INNER PLANET LOCATIONS -

These include objects within the orbital paths of Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars.

See Also http://www.universetoday.com/33059/inner-planets/

Luna (Earth Moon)

This is an excellent candidate for an additional location as it has been extensively mapped.

Linked From: Earth

Lore: One of the first moons in the origin system to be terraformed, Luna was created as the premium vacation destination under Orokin rule. Grineer Queens have since moved into the summer palaces located upon the shores of the Sea of Tranquility and have created an extensive network of cloning facilities in their underground hives. Helium-3 factories & mining facilities pollute the once pristine views of neighboring Earth.

Missions: Sabotage against underground cloning facility reactors and He-3 mining equipment.

Bosses: Grineer Royal Guard (buffed Prosecutor Eximus & Guardsmen, fithing as proxies for the Queens) @ Sea of Tranquility (Mare Tranquillitatis)

Mission Nodes: Copernicus, Hipparchus, Endymion, Tycho, Phocyledes, Janssen, Plato, Atlas, Sea of Tranquility (Mare Tranquilitatis)

Map: http://www.google.com/moon/

MOONGEOs.jpg

Deimos (Mars Moon)

This could be included as a candidate for completion purposes for objects within the Inner Planets orbital paths, but it is not large enough to have more than a couple of named features to serve as Mission Nodes.

Linked From: Mars or Phobos

Lore: I see this serving as some sort of independent trading station or Grineer resupply depot, acting as a waystation between Mars, the Outer Planets, multiple Solar Rails (linking to Dark Sectors and elsewhere), and various space stations.

Boss: ???

Mission Nodes: Swift, Voltaire, several Solar Rails, Mars Hub

- OUTER PLANET LOCATIONS -

These include objects within the orbital paths of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.

This Outer Planet Locations section will mostly contain moons & satellites of those planets. Other objects within the Outer Planet orbital paths are listed in other sections below.

Nessus - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7066_Nessus

- TRANS-NEPTUNIAN OBJECTS -

These includes Kuiper Belt Objects, Cubewanos, Asteroids, Plutoids, Haumeids, and Plutinos.

Object Name (with Moon Name, if applicable) =

Chaos, Varuna, Ixion, Rhadamanthus, Huya, Typhon (with Echidna), Quaoar (with Weywot), Deucalion, Logos (with Zoe), Ceto (with Phorcys), Borasisi (with Pabu), Sila-Nunam, Teharonhiawako (with Sawiskera), Sedna (Already In Use), Orcus (with Vanth), Salacia (with Salacia), Pluto (Already In Use), Haumea (with Hiʻiaka & Namaka), Eris (Already In Use), Makemake, Altjira, Varda (with Ilmarë), and Manwë (with Thorondor)

Pluto Satellites: Charon (Binary Moon), Styx (Moon), Nix (Moon), Keberos (Moon), Hydra (Moon)

Eris Satellites: Dysnomia (Moon)

Sedna Satellites: None Discovered

+1 to you for appreciating celestial bodies.

Saturn's Titan is a good candidate for this as it is a very large moon with features such as a weather system, current system, seas and deserts. It also has plenty of named locations on the surface, such as Xanadu, the Belet Desert and Shangri-la.

I'm of the mind that we'll be seeing Luna incorporated in as the Grineer throneworld - that is to say, where we'll finally battle against the Twin Queens - so it's glad to see someone agrees with me on that idea.

I like it, keep it up!

Meh. You can make up names for new places and say Orokin astronomers discovered/named them long before.

Also, why even bother naming them in English/Greek/whatever or sticking to old names when the Grineer and Corpus don't speak English, not even sure if Tenno speak English.

I guess you could say Lotus has a fetish for naming things in dead tongues, then it would sort of make sense lol

But anyway, yay for new levels and stuff.

So that's where I got that idea from.. through osmosis! <3

I was kinda thinking the Queens would have several throne-worlds or hive-worlds throughout the galaxy, with Luna being used as a springboard to retain & reclaim Earth.

I was kinda also inspired by a friend saying "I have a feeling the Grineer are like ants. They keep getting into everything. Can't have a picnic without them showing up to ruin the party." when we were talking about how Grineer squads can spawn on OD maps to try to raid Derelicts at the same time as the Tenno.

DE has stated that their concept for the solar map has them named after real locations. Most of them are. They only improvise to fill the holes in the current scientific data.

YES.

Finally, someone who appreciates hard science in Warframe.

I salute you good sir.

*celestial fist bump*

Since the gas giants don't really have static, rocky features for NASA & the IAU to name, DE has used the names of their moons and satellites as Mission Nodes for Jupiter, Neptune, and Saturn already. The exception is Europa (a Jupiter moon), which they expanded out as a regular planet or moon.

I plan to go through the in-game Mission Nodes and compare them with the list of known satellites for those planets, to see what can be expanded out like how Europa and Phobos are done. A smaller or less studied satellite could be used for that particular Mission Node instead.

Many of Pluto's Mission Nodes are named for its satellites as well.

- Used on Pluto: Charon (Binary Moon), Nix (Moon), Hydra (Moon)

- Not Used on Pluto: Styx (Moon), Keberos (Moon) - probably not confirmed at the time DE put their map together

I have my own idea where Luna is an Orokin archive for terraforming tech, but is overrun by Infested. Yours will probably happen though.

Both Corpus and Grineer are fully capable of speaking English. Presumably both factions speak English to Tenno due to it still being their native language, or because English turned into an international language for all factions.

Aw that sucks, I wonder why they didn't pick a simpler (or prettier) language to make the international/interplanetary standard. I guess all the best dirty jokes are in English, so they didn't want to lose that precious heritage.

Each of the Galillean moons of Jupiter could be their own map with various features used as node names.  Why stop with just Europa, GIVE US Io, spectacular volcanic views and whatnot!

2. Ophelia
3. Bianca
4. Cressida
5. Desdemona
6. Juliet
7. Portia
8. Rosalind
9. Mab
10. Belinda
11. Perdita
12. Puck
13. Cupid
14. Miranda
15. Francisco
16. Ariel
17. Umbriel
18. Titania
19. Oberon
20. Caliban
21. Stephano
22. Trinculo
23. Sycorax
24. Margaret
25. Prospero
26. Setebos
27. Ferdinand

Most of these are Uranus nodes already within the Pre-U14 solar map, but I'd like to add flavor text to them from the article above and from other sources, before seeing how they could be tailored to fit withing the Warframe universe and lore.

Chariklo (Centaur object) now found to have rings around it @ http://www.wired.com/2014/03/asteroid-ring-system/

I have been pushing it for awhile to be added to the Warframe star chart as a companion to Sedna for a few months.

It's nice to have more info on it as source material.
