Kela De Thaym Fight Rework Concept

TL:DR- Kela is a seasoned, sadistic and psycopathic sniper who corrals Tenno victims into her territory. A large room filled with spotlights. One for doing the job herself, all she has is a high powered, advanced Grineer Sniper rifle that uses modified munitions for a wide array of situations. Her tactics would keep the Tenno cowering and running for their lives, looking for ways to prolong the fight to try to find a way to open her up for attack.

**FLAVOR**

The last of the Grineer had fallen to your hunting party, victim to the advance tactics of the Tenno. The door before you was the last reported position of Kela De Thaym from the advanced scouting party. They were ill equipped to take her out.

The thought races through your mind how they were overwhelmed until it dawns on you.

The door opens to a large room, one unlike any other that populates Grineer locale. The smell of gunpowder and rusting metal hits you in the face, but not before the impact of a concussive round hits you straight in the chest knocking you square on your back fifteen feet away. Your other squad mates react with efficiency, pulling you aside behind a partition, walling you between the projected path of where that first bullet struck.

The fellow Tenno took shelter. The room was silent save for the still echo of the hum of machinery and gears, throwing off any potential to locate where the shot rang out by ear. You regain your composure as you looked up to your squad-mate, who made sure you were taken care of, get their head nearly stapled to the wall with the impact of another shot.

They slump over nearly dead, the protective helmet around their warframe shattered into bits, sparking and shorting out the perception sensors rendering them blind. You desperately grasp them and pull them up to the boxes you three took shelter behind, hoping to avoid such an incident. Another squad-mate rushes to their aid, but the second they moved, even while behind cover, proved to be a terrible miscalculated error.

Their body is sent flying back to the wall from the powerful concussive force of a third shot. You look for the fourth team-mate who tried to find the location of the last shot before you see the wall behind them painted red, their body falling over lifeless.

Wounded with two incapacitated squad-mates and one presumed KIA, you finally hear the mocking laughter of a female Grineer, heavy in their native tongue.

"Your move... Tenno!"

**SETTING**
The idea I initially had would work really well with a Grineer installment on Earth, or actually on the planet with vegitation and flora. The idea was to have a large rectangular room with the top mostly open to show the night sky with only faint moon and starlight shining through. The room would initially be very dark with the familiar hum of Grineer machinery decorating the area and the moment you would wander into the room you would find bright spotlights piercing down from the walls and the ceiling when Kela starts taking her shots.

**BATTLE**

You're instantly forced to run and take cover behind a few shooting targets, crates, containers, anything nearby that can shield you from the initial shots. Taking her position as a sniper you would not be able to see her at all initially in the room, her position completely invisible. You can't find her and can't shoot at her, but you need to gain the upper hand.

Suddenly an idea shows itself. Shoot out the floodlights! Each one severely reducing her accuracy and when all are shot out, she is unable to target you effectively. She tries to shoot several more times with possible built in thermal/night vision but finds it boring.

She wants to see her victims when she makes the final shots, perhaps crying out that she wants to see the look of desperation on the Tenno when they scurry about like rodents in a cage, working on the twisted sense of destruction and lust for carnage that they care not how they achieve it. She suddenly shoots a flare into the sky. Her location has been spotted! The Tenno shoot wildly into the direction where the flare originated, hearing her laughter if they miss and hearing her cries of agony if they hit.

I can see this being a multi-staged fight. Where she goes to fix the floodlights with an integrated system that can instantly repair broken machinery, or arms swivel out and begin work to replace the lights that were shot out. They could be distractions when you try to shoot them out, Kela is alerted to your position and can easily snipe you.

This fight can also prove to be a great way to include Banshee and her Silence ability where your movements always alert her to your presence and your gunshots do as well.

If you attempt to shoot out the lights again you can make her fire the flare out, allowing you to try to shoot at her location once more. All the while she's busy assaulting your squad with HE (High Explosive) Rounds; Concussive Rounds that can knock you down and away; Piercing rounds that can blow through cover like cardboard; And even utilize the Buzzlock seeker rounds to pester Tenno.

**SECOND STAGE**

After you have reduced her armor down quite a bit, she could bring herself to a much more "open" sniper nest where you can see her, but if you try to poke your head out to shoot at her, she can easily take pot shots at you. This could showcase her speed and accuracy as a sniper allowing her to seemingly pick of more than one target at a time and utlize her use of the Grineer rollers to keep pestering Tenno while they try to weave in and out of cover.

You would have to duck and weave through cover, realizing that if she has a bead on you, not even wall running, acrobatics or blocking will stand much of a chance depending on the types of rounds she uses. Some might be blockable. For example f you block a concussive round you're still sent flying backwards (and if you have resist knockback it just sends you flying back further than usual still on your feet) and the normal rounds and the seeker rounds can be easily deflected.

She can have specific taunts before utilizing each round.

"Run run, little mouse! You'll never outrun me!" Could trigger the seeker rounds.

"Those who hind behind glass walls.." Could trigger the armor piercing rounds.

"Whether here nor there, you won't survive!" Could trigger the HE rounds.

"You will stay down. You will never stand before me!!"  Could trigger the Concussive rounds.

Victory here would allow you to escape via the Liset that comes swooping down to pick you up, removing the need to backtrack through the area again.

Or, it could be a traversal puzzle of sorts. The lights idea is neat, but I'd like it more if you kind of had to trick her into shooting you so that you could close in on her, or perhaps she has to peek out of some kind of guard tower in the center of this giant arena to shoot at the players.

Or even perhaps you have to disable the shielding of this guard tower by blasting several generators.

An interesting alternative. Though snipers are never supposed to be in one position for long. They're meant to be mobile. Sticking to a guard tower would mean we would know where she is at all times.

The thought of having the lights and flare would be flushing her out to give away her position for those few short seconds.

The trickery into shooting at nothing could also play in for a Loki or a Saryn maybe! Making it so she can be easily tricked with them for a split second, giving others a chance to move about into cover.

I guess the main theme I was going for was to keep up the motif that she was a cat stalking her prey and that the Tenno were like trapped mice in a maze! Which could also work into the traversal puzzle you mentioned.

  • 3 weeks later...

whats that say about OUR cat? valkyr? cat vs cat but ours is melee :)

jokes aside,

the lights mechanic is absolutely good, although on good thing to add is that she is invulnerable whilst invisible until she shoots the flare

and she can be seen through the codex scanner too.

XD Hahaha

The codex scanner could be an interesting addition! Like you said it could scan her and reveal her position. Maybe she has a sensor that knows you scanned her and she tries to take retreat to another spot. (Might cause stun-lock but there can be ways around it)

Interesting idea. It might not be told outright, but one of those little extra "Hey. You can beat her *BUT* this will make it easier!"
