Amd Driver Bugs [Megathread]

Since the last day or so Warframe has started to frequently crash when a mission starts to load. (ie. in the transition from starmap to mission)

After the crash I get a C++ runtime library Runtime Error report.

The report notes the following:

R6025

- pure virtual function call

I dont get the error report, But the game does crash to desktop almost 30-40% of the time I am hosting a mission with 1 person, about 80-100% when hosting a mission with 3 or more people. extremely frustrating as I used to be the person to host most missions in the clan, now I cant do anything at all.

Mine has crashed a few times since the latest update but not as bad as my friends.

Everytime we start a mission, her game crashes and the C++ Runtime Error with R6025 - Pure virtual function call comes up.

Has happened at least 5-10 times within the hour (around every 2nd or 3rd game).

Apparently this happens to other programs but since this is only starting to happen since the last update, I'm thining its something to do with Warframe, not Windows.

Just had a small graphics driver bug that caused the driver to recover and now I'm sitting here on my desktop (CTD) with the game running still. Thing is totally intractable. Sounds of the Void are still playing, I can still hear my gun firing when I click. I can't use my main screen at all (I use dual screens) since anything but Task Manager gets overwritten by the game, as if it's still running fullscreen.

This is by far the weirdest visual bug I've ever seen. I can't seem to navigate out either, which is unfortunate, given that the T2MD I'm in had 2 very nice dungeons in it.

I've even tried running game capture programs to try and figure out where I am via proxy and they all act like I'm just no longer sending data through my GPU.

It seems that there are some video driver resets which happen way too commonly with Warframe.

The game cannot gracefully recover from these and the screen freezes, but the game still runs.

Other games can recover from these occasional lockups.

On Windows event log, the message says:

-----

Application Warframe.x64.e has been blocked from accessing Graphics hardware.

-----

This Windows log event follows every 'screen freeze' lockup, where the game keeps running but the screen does not update.

Yep, that sounds about right. I play The Crew and it hiccups even more often but, as buggy and bad as that game is, it can most certainly recover from driver mishaps better than Warframe can.

I've had similar problems with the same (or very similar) symptoms. Driver crashes briefly, recovers, I'm switched to a view of my desktop but the game can still be heard running and (audibly) responds to key presses and mouse clicks (clicking still makes shooty-bangy noises, ESC key still makes the menu-pop noise, etc). I thought it might have had something to do with forcing some graphical setting through my GPU driver but the issue seems to persist even with the driver's default profile for Warframe. Windows Event Viewer very generically and unhelpfully describes the event as "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered". If I alt-tab I can interact with my desktop and close the game, but alt-tabbing back in doesn't fix the issue: the game still acts like it's running but all it shows is my desktop. Neither the game nor my computer actually crash.

This is with a 770 and the latest WHQL drivers from NVIDIA. I'm running the game with the borderless window option if that makes any difference.

It isn't a super common occurence, either (about six events total in the last month if the event viewer is to be believed) but it's irritating enough to take note of.

I wonder if the issue is related to drivers? As I am on the 970 currently, I'm on driver version 347.52. Is that the same one that you're running? I ask as I've not been using Nvidia cards long and am curious if the 900 series and the 700 series have the same version.

As for anyone else who experiences this, perhaps you could inform us of what GPU/ driver combination you run? We could help DE with troubleshooting, perhaps.

The latest driver version from Nvidia is 347.52 and should be compatibile with basically every card from the 400 series onwards. So our drivers should effectively be identical.

Just out of curiosity, are everyone having this issue using AMD cards?

I'm using R7870 with 14.12 omegas (most up to date non-beta) and started having frequent loading screen ctd's after U16. In U15 could sometimes play for hours with no problems, now it seems to be 25% of mission launches crash to desktop.

Have tried reinstalling the game on different physical drive, turning off steam overlay, opting into and out of steam beta. Stress testing was uneventful as was checkdisk and sfc scan.

I too crash frequently with "pure virtual function call" as the error. It exclusively crashes when I host. My roommate has the same issue.

Like everyone else, there is an AMD video card involved (R9 280x). However, I'm using the latest beta drivers 15.3 which released recently.
