Nami Solo: The Lonely Blade

Behold, the next chapter in this series focusing on weapons no one gives a crap about!

The Nami Solo is a fine blade for space pirates and space ninja alike. The swept hilt and glimmering sea-blue edge reminds us of a time when Earth wasn't simply a giant ball of sludge.

What can this weapon do?
As critical-damage based melee weapons, Furax and Venkas are way more fun to use thanks to their interesting combos and perks, but the Nami Solo will also get the job done. The 24% Crit Chance is plenty to keep Berserker running indefinitely.

The Nami Solo's status chance is impressive at 25% base; using a single status-chance event mod rockets it to 40%. I equipped mine with Cold damage for giggles.

While unequipped, the Nami Solo does the one thing machetes excel at; hack things to bits. And while mashing E to repeat the single horizontal slash animation is effective against rogue sugar canes and slow children, to get any use out of this weapon you must use the only stance available for it; Sundering Weave. That's two semicolons in as many sentences, and I probably used them incorrectly; somewhere out there there are English teachers gouging their eyes out.

The Lonely Stance
Sundering Weave has a few combos, all with ocean-related names, but you'll most likely be spamming Flash Flood since it totally outperforms the others.

Riding Current is useful because the last attack deals bonus damage and knocks down enemies with a slam, however it takes 3 attacks and a pause before you get to it, letting enemies blast away at your life in the meantime.

Cresting Surf is the standard combo, nothing noteworthy, just more hack 'n slash.

Coming Tide is the same thing, except the final attack has a short dash forward and deals bonus damage. Pressing E 6 times, forcing you to withstand a hail of bullets, to get the effect isn't worth the effort though.

Flash Flood is very simple to use (you can just hold down RMB while you attack) and is more effective than the other combos. It has more damage multipliers, it can multihit, it has a short whirlwind dash, and it procs Slash at the end for good measure. I've rarely felt the need to use the other combos, reserving them for clearing out trash mobs.

Other Thoughts
The elegant Nami Solo is considered a "machete" in the game, this means it uses all the same animations as its brutish cousin, the original Grineer Machete. While making it a machete was an okay idea to save time and manpower, it's visually offputting that this fanciful blade uses the Machete's lackluster attack animations.

Sundering Weave is fine for the utilitarian Grineer Machete; it's a no-nonsense stance full of unimpressive but serviceable hacks and slashes. However, the Nami Solo's swashbuckling appeal is completely destroyed by it. The Nami Solo needs a stance with flashier, dirtier moves to tap into our inner salty pirate scumbag.

For example, Nami Solo's counter attack is a simple slash at the enemy. What the F***. The counter attack should be a kick to the nuts to double them over, followed by a merry upwards slash to decapitate them.

I'll add more to this after I play with it some more.

Video added, download it if it plays choppy: https://www.mediafire.com/?3fzpf3fcccgba45

It's a sample of the kind of pace/gameplay you can expect by using this weapon. I like the shing-shing-shing-shing-shing sound it makes when tornado-ramming an enemy lol

Tried using it against LV35-40 Corrupted:

It kicks all sorts of arse! Flash Flood's whirlwind whirlpool multihit completely wrecks enemies, especially if you bump into them because they stop you from zooming past, making them take every single hit to the spleen. It's even more devastating once Berserker gets going because all those hits will keep it active indefinitely.

The slam at the end doesn't have good range, it's more for toppling any enemy still standing very close to you, great for knocking down a heavy that survived the previous attack.

Nice review.

Sadly the two Machete weapons that seem viable do not match Machete animations: Nami Solo & Prova Vandal

Machetes are long overdue for a new stance; hopefully with a new Quick-melee combo animation.

Flash Flood with Prova Vandal is useful CC and damage....but as you mentioned Flash Flood is the 1-trick Sundering Weave has.
