Question

                                     Clan Creation Guide

This is a general guide for creating an active warframe clan. This guide is meant to help aspiring warlords who do not know the basic's about starting and running a clan. Also My alliance is offering a mentorship program hosted on our TeamSpeak3 server. The program is a hands on learning experience where you have the opportunity to learn from a combined 30 years experience in running clans in various games. Upon completion of the program you will have both an active clan and an active alliance for you ready to join. To enroll in the program or if you have any questions please leave a reply here or send me a PM here on the forums.

Step 1: What Type of Clan do you Want?

The first step in creating a clan is deciding what type of clan you want to create. Is your clans focus to be warframe events? Or is a more laid back approach more your style? No matter if your clans focus is PvP or your motto is super casual weekend warriors there is no wrong answer. What is important is for you to pick the area or areas you're most interested in within the game and that you seek other like minded Tenno to bolster your ranks.

  • Do you want a large clan or a smaller clan?

  • Do you want your clan to be competitive or casual?

  • Do you want your clan to have a theme?

  • Would you like to set goals for the clan?

Step 2: Dojo Building

After years of long journeys through the deserts of Phobos your spiritual journey is now complete and you have found both inner peace and the purpose of your clan. It’s now time for you to start building the foundation of your clan (the clan's dojo). If you have 100 or so forma laying around you can pretty much build your entire dojo all by yourself, if not you should find some of the aforementioned like minded individuals who are interested in being founders of your clan to help.

  • Place all of your research labs in the same area so members do not have to run or teleport all over the place to get to them

  • You are only required to build one oracle to build all of the research labs.

  • Start unlocking the research in each lab asap, as many players are unwilling to join a clan whose research is not complete or near completion.

  • Keep your clans tier ghost as long as you can so that research is as cheap as possible.

  • Start all of the pigment colors in ghost tier before you upgrade so the cost of pigments will always be that of ghost tier.

Step 3: Clan Ranks

Now that you've used enough forma to choke a Rhino and you’ve discovered that the true purpose of plastids is space glue you should set up the ranking structure of your clan. Every clan no matter the creed will need officers to help you do the day to day activities such as Recruiting and keeping the peace. The only exception to this would be ghost tier with only 10 members total you could very easily do all of this yourself with no problem whatsoever. But the higher the  tier that your clan grows then the more higher ranked members you will need to help get the job done correctly. Below is a basic example of a clan rank structure.

Warlord - Reserved for you and any co warlords you may have. Limit this rank to only those you trust greatly. (Has all of the rights and powers that you have within the clan.)

General - The Highest rank achievable under warlord. Only those who demonstrate the utmost dedication and responsibility should be given this rank.. (Has the rights of Recruiter / Regulator / Promotion / Architect / Host / Treasurer / Tech / Tactician / Recruiter / Regulator / Promotion / Architect / Host / Treasurer / Tech / Tactician. Can do anything in the clan besides set the motd and can not govern other Generals and Warlords.)

Officer - This job is given to Loyal members of the clan who want to have a hand in running the clan. ( Has the rights of Recruiter / Host / Tech. Their basic job is to help recruit as well as reprimand other members if need be and report anything of need to a General or Warlord,

Leader - Given to Veteran members of the clan.  Awarded for  loyalty and time served. Holds no responsibilities. (Has the rights of Host / Tech.)

Sage - The first Rank awarded to clan members who stand out among the crowd as pillars of the community and are always respectful and helpful to fellow clan mates. (Has the rights of Host / Tech.)

Soldier - The Backbone of the clan. Most members will fall into this rank.  (Can host the Dojo.)

Initiate - Default Rank.Every new member that joins the clan is automatically placed at this rank and stays there on a probationary basis until a set amount of time has passed and they can be promoted to that of soldier. (Can host the Dojo.)

Utility - The S#&$list rank. Given to problematic members as a punishment.(Can not host the dojo.)

  • The actual names picked for the ranks are arbitrary.

  • Give ranks of Officer and above only to those who are both willing and responsible enough to do the job.

  • If at any time they stop helping recruit or manage the clan they should be demoted and replaced by someone else who meets those qualifications.

  • Remember these ranks are here to help you run the clan.

  • The account that created a clan is the founding Warlord of that clan.

  • The founding Warlord can demote other WarLords.

Step 4: Clan Policies and Rules

Rules and Policies are custom built for every clan. Policies being more based off of clan size and standards while Rules are based more on the general attitude of your clan.

Standard clan rules

  • No Pornographic links in chat.

  • No Harassment

  • No Racial slurs

  • No Sexual Harassment

  • Being a $&*^ or obnoxious will result in consequences. Being offensive or bashing people will also result in consequences.

Standard Clan Policies

  • Mastery Rank Requirements

As an example ghost clans often have higher mastery rank requirements that are of  higher tiers. (It’s infinitely easier to find 10 MR20 player to fill your clan then 1000.)

On the other hand Say that there are a couple of MR20 players who have a ghost clan but they really enjoy taking new players and teaching them the game. Their recruitment policy for mastery rank requirement would be extremely lower in that clan if existent at all.

  • Inactivity Policy

Kicking inactive players and rotating new players in is a constant battle.

The typical time frame of inactivity before a kick is 14 days - 30 days. Explain this policy to your members and tell them they will be removed if they go above the inactive day limit. Also make sure to tell them that they have a possibility of rejoining again if they ever decide to come back into the game and be active.

  • TeamSpeak Policy.

Filling your teamspeak up with active players is as simple as making it a requirement for all new members of the clan to both  download and sign  into teamspeak. Within the first reply to an enquiry about your clan you should ask if the person has a microphone. If so ask them to download and install TS (http://tinyurl.com/InstallTS). Once they join TS you can simply pull them into your channel and continue your recruitment process.

  • Event Clan Policy

If you're one of the few clans in WarFrame whose goal is to win a trophy during an event then a good Event Policy is paramount to your success. Make sure you explain this policy to every new member coming in. Let them know they will be expected to be as active as much as possible during WarFrame events and to get their score as High as possible so that your clan can have a better score. If they fail to live up to your standards or did poorly in an event then removing them after the event ended would be in order.

Step 5: Clan Emblems

Emblems are the banners or Coat-Of-Arms of your clan. A good  clan Emblem boost the morale of your clan and promotes  comradery. Many members are unwilling to join a clan if they have no emblem or even if the look of the emblem  is unpleasant to them..

Uploading an Emblem

  • Upload option is only available for WarLords.

  • Go to Account Management tab to upload your Clan's image.

  • Image must be a 128x128 pixels .PNG file.

  • You may preview your Clan Emblem before uploading it.

  • Upon approval, the image will be implemented in the Clan Emblem in the nearest game hotfix or update.

  • Do not upload offensive and inappropriate images. If your image is rejected, you will receive an email from the developer regarding the rejection.

  • Your Platinum, however, will not be refunded.

  • Upload fee is 150 plat.

  • Optional change fee is 150 plat.

Creating an emblem

Step 6: Recruitment

Clan activity is the lifeblood of your clan. No matter the size or goal of your clan if you fail to keep it full of active members then you condemn it to a fate of slow death by entropy.and even in the best case scenario you keep your clan semi alive or on life support. That is why a good Recruitment and inactivity policy is one of the most important decisions you have to make as a leader.

Using the Recruitment channel

Advertising in the recruitment channel will bare the brunt load of your recruitment force.

This is the best way to make sure as many people read your recruitment message at one time. The typical Recruitment message should be at least 3-4 lines long and should contain general information about your clan as well as what your clan has to offer.  Below are some examples of actual in game recruitment messages

Looking for an active clan? Join Crescent Moon Prime~We have around 100 active people on at any given time~With 650+ individuals logging in everyday~CMP has an active Teamspeak & Website. So why settle for a clan with only 20 people online? Become part of a competitive moon clan today! MR 4+ Req

Are you in a clan that is INACTIVE? Join Panzerfaust as we are a very ACTIVE and HELPFUL mountain clan with an ACTIVE chat full of ACTIVE members! We have a very ACTIVE alliance! We have no mastery rank requirement, but Teamspeak w/ mic IS REQUIRED to join. (290+)

Sometimes you wanna go.. Where everybody knows the game.. and they’re always raids to get Arcanes.. You wanna be where you can breathe, and not in a zerg clan that's mundane.. Join [clan name here] where everybody knows your name.

Hands on Recruitment

Also Hanging out in relays and doing public runs would be the hands on approach to finding recruits as well. Show off that logo and dress to impress.

  • Look for lower mastery ranks on lower planets and relays

  • Look for higher mastery ranks on higher planets and relays

  • Taking a couple of clan mates with you on public runs to show off your comradery

  • Hit p in a run or put the reticle over the person ingame or in the relay to view the player's profile and see if they are in a clan.

Recruitment threads

Creating a recruitment thread on the official WarFrame forums is also helpful when looking for members. You're not likely to keep your clan full on this alone but even if it nets you a few members every month then it is worth the initial time investment. If you're handy with photoshop creating banners will definitely draw attention to your clan. Before creating a recruitment thread spend some time reading others clans threads (https://forums.warframe.com/index.php?/forum/169-pc-recruitment/). Keep an eye out for things in them you do like and would maybe want in your own thread.  Make sure the thread itself is clean and free of spelling errors.

In your Recruitment Thread

  • List your clan rules

  • List your clan requirements

  • State the type of clan you are (competitive or casual)

  • State any Goals your clan may have

  • State what type of players you're looking for

  • State your clan policies

  • adding screenshots and graphics as possible in your thread

  • Use bullet point,Spoilers, change text color to make your post tidy neat and stand out

Finding Officers  / Recruiters

Finding responsible officers who are both willing and able to do the job can often at times be a chore. Here is a short checklist of what to keep an eye out for.

  • Is This person active

  • Do they get along well with others

  • Do they resolve conflicts around them

  • Are they slow to anger

  • Are they rational and logical

  • Do they want to help

  • Do they have prior responsibilities that may interfere

After Update 12 DE started keeping track of which WarLord Created each clan. Some time later  the feature was implemented that the creator warlord ( or Founder Warlord as I call it) Could demote other Warlords.

If the Founding WarLord Leaves a clan then that clan no longer has a founding WarLord. Even if that same WarLord rejoined the same clan and was re promoted to WarLord he would not inherent founder WarLord Status. The only way to be made founding WarLord of a clan who does not have a Founding WarLord is with a support ticket. If two or more WarLords are present and a support ticket is put in for founding WarLord Then the most veteran WarLord would be made founding WarLord, unless the most veteran WarLord is over 30 days inactive. In which case that WarLord Would be skipped.

WOW. This is such good information!

I have a friend I made warlord and he kinda promoted whoever he wanted. Time to kick everyone out. Thank you sooo much! Can`t believe I had no clue about this.

I've been looking for more information about how to grow clans and this will be a great starting point for me.  Very well written and thorough.  Thanks so much for posting.

Wanted to know your thoughts on clan websites as well.  Obviously they are independent of the game but I had some ideas for a custom site.  My concern though is that it may not serve any use for smaller clans and wondered what anyone else thought about them.  I've seen some pretty bad ones and a lot of very inactive sites as well.

Clan websites have the potential to be of great assistance to a clan. In fact I would not even consider running a Mountain or Moon clan without at least a clan forum. This would allow all the generals/officers of a clan a place to voice feedback/concerns and give you a great way to bounce ideas off of others. As well the organizational aspect of it all.

However getting the average user who is not an officer or higher to use a clan site could be compared to pulling teeth. While you simply make it a requirement for the upper ranks to use the site for organizational sake unless you have something to pull the average member of your clan in it will gain no traction.

You can combat this to some extent by adding content targeted to that user group it's self. For instance when members ask you how should I mod for my Excal? Instead of telling them directly go to your forum and make a complete build / quick guide on Excal then sending that player the link. Now they are pulled into the site and if anyone in the future needs said help it's just a link away.

Clan Contest / Builds & Guides / Warframe Prime Drop Locations / Farming Guides / Lore Stuff .... The possibility's are only limited by your imagination. The trick is to find the thing's that they both want and need to see and putting it in one convenient location.

Thanks Skitz....I have big ideas and I'm ready to put in the work.  Thanks for the suggestions and feedback.  You've been a great help.

Good info, but I would highly recommend using Discord as a means to communicate. It's free, with voice and text chat.

Would describe as a fluid mix of Teamspeak, Slack, and Skype.

Did I mention it's free?

Discord is definitely a great option not only because of the thrift factor but the over all accessibility it offers as well.

For me however Teamspeak is where it's at, the level of control and organization in ts is only limited by your own knowledge and imagination. For instance  my alliance teamspeak has over 15 clans and 200+ a day log on. Using the default permission system on ts paired with creating custom bots allows us to keep it streamlined and organized.

So if you can afford to rent a dedicated ts server and know a bit about coding ts is unparalleled in its reproach. However free is free and Discord is that.
