  1. Hi everyone, I’m Xforce, primary decorator from clan AsurO

    Clan Name: AsurO

    Size: Mountain

    Clan Platform: PC

Rank: Enforcer (Primary Decorator, this is an add/remove parts, Add/Remove Rooms+, invite/kick rank)

We’re a very old clan with very deep roots in intense dojo decorating. We started building during the very first wave of dojo additions that added the original Corpus and Grineer decorations and went on to earn some acclaim, including prime time and devstream features with our at-the-time innovative and mechanically complex sculptures.

The user interface for dojo design was still in its infancy at the time, with no tools available for part-cloning or easy placement, and the capacity-intensive nature of most parts at the time left us with limited real estate for set design. Much of the feedback, and many of the amazing designers me and my clanmates met while moving forward on our decorating adventure cited our creations as inspirational or as key references in their own decorating adventure, and as a result, we decided to keep the original designs intact and instead decorate around them, slowly reconfiguring the environs into vistas.

All of this led to a very sculpture-focused dojo that endeavored to incorporate the area around massive setpieces into an organic design without investing into capacity intensive redesigns of the actual room structure. The original “Tenno” structure peeking through our set design is far more pronounced than in other dedicated sculptor’s creations, but we’ve tried our best to ensure a fantastic viewing experience despite that.

Our current dojo layout is split into three categories, which have each have a little bit of overlap. There’s a solid chance we’d be disqualified for spam if I put in every single build we have, so I’ll stick to

Our Stance Farm is a collection of sculptures designed around the idea of incarnating Stance Mods. This menagerie includes Swirling Tiger, Tainted Hydra (yes – we did do conclave stances!) , Carving Mantis and many more, each of which have each been meticulously sculpted into colossal robot animals and placed into an appropriate habitat for your viewing pleasure.

    • Noble Cadence – This one doubles as our spawn room, and depicts a roaring dragon flying over a futuristic eastern cityscape. This is one of the original big dragon builds, older than Orokin parts, and built with a heavy Grineer aesthetic. The sides of the have been worked into a series of faux buildings using 2-D facades to save space, and various “building” – esque facilities line the main road the dragon is flying over.

    • Tranquil Cleave – One of the original giant robot builds, this one set the bar for mechanical complexity and part integration way back at the dawn of decorating. In addition, it was one of the first “big” builds of its time, as well as (probably) the first humanoid robot. The robot itself took over two weeks to build as the surface anchors for parts was far more rigid at the time of its constructions, and the lack of a clone tool made mirroring the sides a nightmare. Sadly, the intricate detailing on the machine was completely lost when lighting 2.0 came in. I cried a little when lighting 3.0 brought it back into view.

    • Tainted Hydra – My current masterpiece, this one is an eight headed elemental Hydra depicting the Yamato-no-Orochi, taking inspiration from the mythical creature’s appearances in both Nioh and Okami. This was one of my most intellectually challenging builds, as the elemental pairings in Orochi’s heads allowed me to work a lot of duality and opposing-aspected imagery into the piece, from solar and lunar eclipse reliefs, heaven-and-earth building juxtapositions and the elemental confluences you’d expect from a massive, city-eating monster

    • Swirling Tiger – This one is a giant robot tiger, loosely inspired by ZOIDS and placed into a lush forest. It was one of my first projects after Orokin parts were first released and represents my attempt at using them to replace muscle in my own style. At the time this was built, grineer pipe had come into style – however, the resizing options on the parts needed required that the sculptures built with it be absolutely massive. I was reluctant to use it in the musculature of my own creations as I did not enjoy working at the scale that the use of Grineer pipe necessitated at the time, and this was my attempt at an alternate solution to replicating an organic appearance.

    • Malicious Raptor – Okay, so you’ve seen dinosaurs, and robots and undead and monsters… but what about undead dinosaur robots? This one was a brainchild of mine that had to be shelved for nearly four months due to a medical procedure that made it difficult to sculpt. The idea sort of… festered in my head until I had to express it the moment I was feeling better. A friend of mine named TX52 had been pioneering the use of repeating scale designs to create incredibly lifelike versions of monster hunter monsters, and this mashup was the spin on his technique that I came up with. By integrating a skeletal scaffolding into the design of a scaly hided beast and using bulky parts to provide bulk to the remaining limbs and joints, it becomes possible to dramatically reduce the capacity cost of these stunning creations while keeping all the parts that make them look legitimately amazing. And, you know, you make undead dinosaurs.

    • Iron Phoenix – Originally designed as a way to use up some of the plat decos clan members had donated that were gathering dust because their increased capacity costs made it hard to justify using them, this jet bird came to life through the use of inherently lit pieces with blue LED channels, white components that took red “dye” from lighting effects and a lot of very careful clipping.

    • The Bug Room (Burning Wasp and Carving Mantis) – This one was just a quirky idea that worked out way better than expected. Most of the innovative ideas used in their construction have since become commonplace, so I feel there’s no real need to go into them, but they’ve aged quite well and look fantastic poised against the backdrop of a terrifying insect hive.

There's lots more, but my arm actually hurts from getting all these screenshots in, and our video isn't close to being done edited, so I'll wrap up here. Good luck to everyone competing, and godspeed to the judges, who have a hekload of material to sift through 😄

  2. While we were initially going to go ahead with judging, all of the entrants asked that other prospective participants be given more time ready their entries, as only a handful of projects had been submitted. The new deadline for the dojo sculpting contest will be the 31st of March, roughly three weeks from today. The rules for the contest are listed above, and if we see sufficient participation, I'll do what I can do expand the prize pool.

To compensate players who submitted entries during the original timeframe, I'm allowing them to use the extra time to ask for feedback and update and resubmit their designs once, if they see fit to do so. While I believe that all of them look wonderful as is, playing with the polychrome and fiddling with the orientation of your pieces is an addiction many people can find hard to kick.

As of this time, we have three lovely plant monsters awaiting judging, all submitted through our Discord link, which I'll link below again.

Best of luck to all the prospective participants, and have fun sculpting!

  3. Hi everyone! I'd like to announce a privately funded competition for anyone who has access to a pile of resources, and likes decorating like a madman. May I introduce...

Putting Down Roots – A Dojo Sculpting Challenge

An open challenge from Ikeaframe Central

    Platform: PC only

    Contest Runtime:

Feb 16th to the end of March 4th

    ·         Winners will be announced on March 8th

    Prizes:

Bragging rights, a short video review of the winners’ creations* and…

    1st Place: 1000 platinum

    2nd Place: 500 platinum

    3rd Place: 250 platinum

    2 runners-up: Forma Bundles

*The video review may not be ready on the same day as the winners are announced

    The Details:

Hi, I’m Xforce, admin of a discord server called Ikeaframe Central, and I’d like to challenge you and your communities to try a little sculpting challenge. At this point, I’ve seen some truly wonderful sculpts that have incorporated plants into all manner of cool and quirky sculpts, often as hair, tentacles, manes and all sorts of other weird and wonderful things. Plants themselves, while ubiquitous, are frequently used as ornamentation, backdrop or composite chimeras that blossom into world trees or gnarly roots in what are honestly some truly ambitious gardening projects. Rarely, though – do I see animate, ambling, hungry plants that thrum with a sinister pulse of life.

With spring creeping over the horizon soon, I’d like to challenge all of you to germinate some truly unholy monstrosities and hit me with your best plant monsters. I want to see your best, most creative, most monstrous masses of vines. Your hundred eyed trees with roots pulling up brimstone from the depths of hell. Your most absurdly broken Piranha Plants smashing apart the thin tin cans you call dojos…

I’ve got the plat if you’ve got the goods. Hit me up… I’ll be waiting 😃

    Sample Entries:

    The Green Seraph, by Inahorange

    YGAUqxe.png

    The Weeping Machine, by Xforce

    HmK4CWP.png

    Rules and errata:

Part Count limited to 300 pieces

Backdrops and dioramas will not count toward the submitted piece unless they are directly connected to your creation

Creations must be fully funded by the cut-off date

Entries must adhere to the theme of the contest. Submissions that ignore or skirt the premise of the contest may be disqualified. (As an example, dragons with plant hair, or creations that are explicitly not plant creatures, but have some leafy adornments.)

Stone and mechanical components are fine, as long as they are supporting the theme of something that is both monstrous and a plant.

    Submission Rules:

Entries can be submitted in this thread, or through Discord

    • Here's the Discord link https://discord.gg/5GwrnNt - please follow the instructions on the landing page to get access to the server. I apologize for the speed-bump, but as an art focused discord, it helps to make sure that new entrants are able to read the rules.
    •  Entries can be submitted to #PuttingDownRoots, under the Sculptors and Designers section of the Discord server.

Entries must include the user’s in-game Warframe name, clan, clan tier, username and clan role. Please be aware that this contest is currently PC only, as I do not currently have a prize pool for console players. My apologies.

Multiple entries from the same clan are not allowed, and other decorators from clan AsurO (whose dojo I live in, like a goblin) are not eligible to win prizes, due to an obvious conflict of interest.

Up to 4 pictures and a gif or a short video can be included. (Imgur albums preferred)

Optional: A short paragraph describing your creation, your vision for the piece, the styles you implemented and your thoughts on what went into the sculpt.

    Judging:

    ·         Judging will be done through joint decision from a panel of 3 judges consisting of myself and two other members of the Warframe community

    ·         We will be judging based on creativity, technical skill, use of colour and adherence to the theme

    ·         All entries will get a score out of 10, and entries that score a ranking higher than 7/10 will get a more detailed review with feedback from the judging panel. The amount of feedback, will, of course, depend on the number of entries.

  4. Hi, everyone. I'm sure a few of you have been wondering where I've been lately. Not to worry, I've just been pulling myself together after a medical procedure. Anyway, here's our clan's entry.

Despite slowing down over the last few months, we've put a tremendous amount of love, care and experimental procedure into our dojo design. I have an addiction to robot animals, that slowly morphed into a collection of literally interpreted stance mods over a period of time... which set the stage for many of my current creations. I've experimented with a variety of styles, techniques, and presentations - and hope to continue to innovate and experiment in the future. In addition to the stance farm, our dojo features expansive vistas, subtle nods, hidden secrets, a soundstage, a bar with a hidden VIP lounge, a regular farm, and much, much more. So much so that we couldn't actually compress it into a single video... but what can you do?

Shoutouts to the other architects, 0_the_Fool, Duffelbag and Tram, as well as our awesome clanbase who are always willing to siphon us truly mind-boggling amounts of ferrite, circuits, plastids and polymer. I love you all ❤️

P.S. - I know I'm bad at video editing. This was my first time using Sony Vegas, and I was fighting the UI the entire way. I'm planning to make tutorials on a few things over the course of the next week, so I'm going to have to chin up and learn how to use it properly, but that's an endeavor that won't happen in time for this contest. Thanks for watching, and my sincere condolences to the judges, who have to sift through (probably) hours of material once this wraps up.

Edit: Edited because I forgot the clan platform. Hopefully, its not too late to do that.

  5. My clan prefers to finish out our current rooms before building new ones, which usually means filling the existing ones to near capacity. Being capped at 3 inspiration halls really stifles our creativity and makes us feel like we're punished for not pre-building a huge number of them. 3 really is too little.

  6. Clan name: AsurO

    Clan tier: Mountain

    Clan platform: PC

    Clan role: Enforcer (Primary Decorator)

    Clan Theme: [Stance Mods]

Xforce here, main architect of AsurO, repping one of the oldest clans in the game. I got into decorating several months ago, after seeing Dojo with Giant Robots featured on prime time and a fortuitous encounter with the legendary CapInHands on the forums. Since then, I've seen my work featured on Prime Time and the Devstream, met a ton of absolutely fantastic, personable and generally wonderful Tenno with unique and interesting ideas, and had the way I play the game redefined in a major and lasting way. My adventures in dojo design have led me to create a hub for decorators to talk to, show off, critique and share tips with each other, as well reconnect with old clan members and explore an absolutely wild side of the game I never could have imagined. I'd shout out everyone else I talk to and hang out with, but, well, they're all posting here themselves 🌚

I came up with an idea, several months ago - to expand my tiny collection of robot animals into an enormous safari centered around the concept of actualized stance mods (PvE and PvP both), represented through the medium of ginormous setpieces. My creations are split into size tiers - tiny, large, enormous and colossal. Large creatures are roughly five times the size of a warframe, Enormous creatures dominate a room, leaving space for little else and Colossal creations are so big, that only a very large hall or the depths of space can contain them.

    The current list includes

    1. Noble Cadence
      • An enormous regal dragon bellowing out a blazing roar. It coils around the space in its domain, presenting an impressive silhouette greeting new arrivals to the dojo. Includes a diorama with a heavily modified treasury and trading post.
    2. Tranquil Cleave
      • A gundam-style mecha in an abandoned maintenance bay, still clutching an enormous longsword. The design is loosely inspired by the Musha Gundam and the Sengoku Astray.
    3. Vengeful Revenant
      • An enormous golden skeleton from the Orokin era. It walks with an unsteady gait, seeking vengeance against an unknown entity. The cave system it inhabits was designed by Tram, who placed nearly every rock and blade of grass by hand.
    4. Bleeding Willow
      • A large japanese maple with a dilapidated sword wedged in its trunk. A crimson liquid that has been determined to be kuva continuously oozes from a hole in its trunk. Forms a diorama with Carving Mantis and Burning Wasp.
    5. Carving Mantis
      • A large Orokin style Preying Mantis, trapped in combat against a monstrous wasp and the hive it defends. Forms a diorama with Burning Wasp and Bleeding Willow
    6. Burning Wasp
      • An large Orokin styled Wasp with a flaming core. It remains trapped in combat against a monstrous Preying Mantis, as its hive is vulnerable. Forms a Diorama with Carving Mantis and Bleeding Willow
    7. Tainted Hydra
      • A colossal Hydra, heavily inspired by the Yamata-no-Orochi. While it takes heavy influences from Okami, each of its heads is fully styled after a different element. Sound design has been incorporated into this piece, and lightning strikes saturating the area make it something that a screenshot can't do justice to.
        • Album, shown with both intensely atmospheric mood lighting, and high contrast lighting to show detail work: https://imgur.com/a/JF3zJl1
    8. Iron Phoenix
      • An enormous Jet-Phoenix, diving towards the ground. If an iron bird is a plane, then an Iron Phoenix should inspire images of the same 😉 Stylistically, it draws influence from several mecha anime from my youth - but realistically, its an original creation. A neat lighting trick causes an illusory sun to frame its descent.
    9. Swirling Tiger
      • An enormous winged tiger prowling a forested domain. Heavily inspired by Liger Zero and a homage to ZOIDS - the fluid animation and wonderful mecha design are always an inspiration to me
    10. Biting Piranha
      • A huge fish leaping from the water. Out of all the older creations I've touched up for the contest, I modified this one the least. Initially inspired by the tale of a koi leaping a waterfall and transforming into a dragon, it shares thematic elements and patterning with Noble Cadence.
    11. Cyclone Kraken
      • An enormous biorganic Kraken of predominantly Grineer design, surfacing in an underwater cave. No - not the gun, put the machetes away. (Co-designed with 0_the_Fool)
    12. Four Riders
      • A collection of four stone heads rising from a swamp. Their mysterious visages appear to draw from alien sources. Research has linked their appearance to otherworldly creatures that supposed have some sort of connection with the formation of the Origin System. In no particular order, they are
        • Steven Sinclair, who always has a particular expression on his face.
        • Sheldon, the muscular rock monster
        • Rebecca, who was recently modded with Dead Eye
        • RNJesus, who is angry that we didn't sacrifice enough Oberons this solar cycle
    13. Seismic Palm
      • A large palm that uprooted a clump of bamboo and froze over a portion of the ceiling. A palm tree is lodged in its surface.
    14. Clashing Forest
      • A collection of three sky islands dominated by abnormally large trees. Their massive root systems anchor chunks of rock together haphazardly as they drift through space. The largest of these is colossal in size, and shrouded in a layer of abnormal blackness. How they survive in an airless environment is unknown, but they appear to gather water from passing comets in a mysterious fashion. Forms a diorama with Astral Twilight.
    15. Astral Twilight
      • An large celestial butterfly, bequeathed to the clan by its mother - a colossal fae creature whose body is joined to an equally colossal tree. The eerie sight of their joined silhouettes form the basis of this piece. Forms a full diorama with Clashing Forest.

In addition to the above, we have

    1. A complex research facility staffed by a number of tiny servitors and dominated by a large Grineer Coconut Crab and its counterpart, a Corpus Hermit Crab. While the Corpus version strongly maps to [Cunning Aspect], I didn't want to force the idea, as they were my first creations, and the theming scheme had not yet dawned on me. The labs themselves are compartmentalized into many sections, and are fairly intricately detailed. Minor pieces in this diorama include
      • Kerobot, the frog themed grineer cleaning robot
      • The twins, a pair of linked servitors who monitor information processing and research while staff are off duty.
      • Choppy, a retrofitted grineer drone that serves as a loading and refuelling robot
      • Billy, the platypus robot that monitors the generators and is responsible for regulating power output from the experimental generator assembly.
      • A scanning assembly designed to research a fossilized Eidolon bone
      • A loading and storage bay
      • A number of decorative setpieces
      • A prototype planetary explorer craft, intended to allow for the remote transfer of goods between operatives
      • An information desk
      • A number of private offices
      • Support equipment for the servitors and their crustacean overlords.
    2. A heavily modified observatory deck adjoining the Astral Twilight/Clashing forest setpiece. Outfitted with an arcade machine, a coffee machine to keep you alert between farming rounds, a fish tank where you can admire the boots you've caught and a heavily modified arsenal assembly.
    3. A wildlife preserve designed by Duffelbag, and modeled after the landscapes he grew up with. The care and attention he's put into his work has been absolutely stunning.
    4. A memorial museum, displaying the history of the clan, with displays telling the tales of the operations we've participated in, as well as the people and antagonists that played key roles in the journey.
    5. A multi-level bar with fantastic atmosphere for clan members to unwind when off missions. Complete with a tantalizingly inaccessible VIP lounge. This bar, and its surroundings are the brainchildren of 0_the_Fool and Tram, who helped him figure out that some boundaries... are just in the mind. The bar uses the partitions in the barracks rooms to section off a DJ booth, the main club area and the VIP lounge while keeping all three in view of each other.
    6. A number of odds and ends with interesting or heartwarming stories attached to them. While these aren't really dioramas or setpieces, strictly speaking - I think they're an interesting part of the history of the clan, and help provide context to why we're so attached to it.
      • Buddha's Chill Pad, originally conceived by the original clan creator, and at least part of the reason we like to hide buddha statues where no one will find them.
      • Decisive Judgement - an experimental piece by a decorator who was still finding his feet
      • A personal quarters room
      • Clan Monument - a large two-colour stone monument in the shape of the letter A, our clan symbol.
      • The grove of the Rending Crane- after completing the last build item for my entry I received a few after-the-deadline donations of polymer and plastids... not wanting to let the person down, I offered to plant a Sakura tree for them, and then extended the offer to anyone who wanted a Sakura tree as a consolation "stretch goal" of sorts. Not expecting much from a clan already depleted of polymer and plastids, I left for a long shower. What happened next... absolutely /floored/ me. The entire grove was funded over the period of an hour... yesterday, with clan members running Ophelia back to back to funnel precious polymer and plastids long after their own reserves had been completely drained. When I got back, I had numerous messages from clan members I'd never messaged before thanking me, telling me their stories and about their time with AsurO. 24 hours later, I'm delaying my entry to six in the morning to throw in a single screenshot of a cherry tree grove because I can't even begin to express how grateful I am to my clanmates who carried me across maybe not-so-metaphorical mountains of ferrite, plastids, polymer, salvage, forma and circuits. I might not have any of those anymore, and neither do a number of them, but here we are anyway.

If the contest rules allow, I'll edit my post to add a video if I can manage to finish a quick one before the deadline. I planned out soundtracks and editing and such, but I'll probably only have time to put together a quick walk through the dojo with a soundtrack in the background, and I'm concerned this post will selfdestruct and take this entire schpiel with it.

Edit 1: Forgot to link an album

  7.  Hello Tenno! I'm Xforce - a dojo sculptor you might remember from some of my older work like "large Grineer dragon" or "that's a big fish". Whether you're just getting started, like admiring cool dojo creations, or are a veteran yourself, we've got some exciting news for you!

I've spent the last few weeks collaborating with a number of other notable Ikeaframers, including Duduminador, Ajingom, Ancalagon, Sannleikur, DavidTsudo, Zar__ and more in order to develop a resource and collaboration hub via a new Discord server called Ikeaframe Central! Over the coming weeks, we'll be developing Youtube tutorials on Ikeaframe basics, running showcases on advanced construction techniques and teaming up with Warframe partners to create contests and community challenges!

As of this point in time - most of our techniques and ideas are self developed by individual members of the playerbase, with little to no exchange of information except in the areas where we seek each other out directly. Over time, we'll be addressing this by showing off tutorials and timelapses, recording tips and tricks and most importantly - by fostering communication within the existing playerbase!

  8. Honestly, with the all the options we have to build things, its easy to run out of space - and even easier if your designs prompt other people to start building things. I'd personal love the ability to put down more halls, and the Orokin ones are the most gorgeous of the lot.

I know that part of the reason they were removed was due to a clash in decor and inconsistent themeing, but with the release - and popularity - of the new Orokin decorations, I'm holding out hope that they come back. There's no reason to leave them unused, right DE?

  9. The wings on Archangel Diesel really were pretty amazing. I liked your designs a lot, the ICBM launcher, hovercraft and flame tank, especially seemed super creative to me. I've never seen some of those parts used the way you did, and wouldn't have thought to use them that way either. Great job :D

  10. Next up is this real big fish. How big? Well, not that big, really. Just a wee one - nothing to fear. Teeth... still too big, though... wait a minute, that's the wrong fish. Oh. oh dear.

Well. we escaped the swamp. While we're on the topic of marine life, though... here's this GIANT ENEMY CRAB.

Okay, I think we lost it. This seems like a good hiding spo-wait, what's this?

Hmmm... power's on. Drones seem to be working.

Gentletenno, I believe its time to blast that crab for massive damage.

There are still a few bugs with our design process, but we're getting it down.

And a few... things that got loose. We'd put them in containment, but they seem happy to just sit around and stare at us judgementally.

  11. Hi everyone! I got inspired after seeing CapinHands' creations a few weeks back and took a crack at building some Dojobots of my own. My designs have a different aesthetic compared to some of the other designs I've seen posted here, which I think is pretty cool. First up is the Chinese Dragon flying over the spawn. It has a very Grineer-inspired heavy industrial flair that offsets nicely with the serpentine slither its got going on as it winds around the pillars. Its big enough that people who spawn under it often can't tell what they're looking at until they run away from under the shadow of its claws and tail... then they make out the underside of the head and freak out. Its the best B)

And here's a side-shot of the whole thing.

  12. Hi! I've seen you around a lot, but I'm not sure we've been formally introduced. My name is Rhino and I really like kicking and charging at things with no regard for conservation of momentum! I like cooking, going skating on Grineer asteroid bases and doing a lot of pole vaulting in my spare time. I'm usually not out during the day, though because I have an awful skin condition that makes me look like a stupid statue. I'm a Tenno, not a statue...! Have some sensitivity before you make with the name calling, people!

I also get made fun of a lot because of my codpiece and my massive thighs, but I think Tenno who do that are secretly really insecure about their appearance themselves. Frost thinks he's wearing a trenchcoat all the time, Ember's obsessed with burning calories and Trinity has a lobster on her butt... but I don't judge! Still, a lot of the things they say are really hurtful. I still cry myself to sleep sometimes, when I remember them telling jokes about how my thighs are so fat, moas get sucked into orbit around them. It's hard, but when the world is against me, I try to remember that sticks and stones bounce off my bones, but words will always hurt me.
