After doing some testing trying to figure out how the Sparring Heavy Attack hitbox actually worked, I found out that the damage zone for the Heavy Attack itself isn't actually well represented by the crater left by the attack, rather being a square zone in front of the player (seemingly 2Rangex2Range):
Which is why this is possible even though all aesthetics point towards another story:
In this case the Gunner at 6m-ish away (Hirudo + Primed Reach) got hit with the Heavy, and the Gunners on the right (just barely) and on the left were behind the damage zone.
I think it would be beneficial to center the damage zone on the point of impact, such that it lines up more with the visuals provided by the attack.
