People like you complain despite the fact that this game was designed with keyboard/mouse in mind. Remember that. If you don't like the system, configure it to your liking or use your keyboard/mouse.

    People like who?
The game was working wonderfully on gamepad for YEARS until the recent changes to it. It's way too late to use the "this game was developed with keyboard/mouse in mind" argument.

  2. Howdy guys,

I'm a dig fan of DE and Warframe. I'm a long time player here.. I've been away a while and I thought I'd hop back on and play a bit. I tried playing on the gamepad and found out that my bindings had been reset. I figured it was no big deal to put them all back in.
Unfortunately when I went in to set the buttons up the way I prefer them there were several issues about what I can and cannot do, and even problems saving the configurations I made.
I don't know what happened there but please fix this. Warframe has long had the option to play on gamepad, and for a very long time it was handled quite well.
I can't imagine how the decision was made to add more limits on how we can set up the gamepad, maybe it was an unintended consequence of some attempt to make something better...
At any rate. This needs some attention. Thanks.

Renaming a pet would feel weird to me tbh. I see pets as basically family; changing their name would feel like trying to change the name of another person.

eh....A name change is by no means lessening someones place in the family. I didn't love my pet any less than someone else because of the way I changed it's name over the years. It was organic. Heck, growing up my dad refereed to me most as a term of endearment based on my relationship with him (we bonded over sports), my mom referred to me as a term of endearment based on my relationship with her (we bonded over literature).  Sometimes the birth name is what you expect of the child/animal...while the nickname/term of endearment is more about who the child/animal really is. Now this is getting too deep. lol

Anyway...I don't care if anyone wants to change their pets name or not but I'd rather folks didn't look at it as a matter of loving something more or less. Its cool if keeping the name helps you feel connected but keep in mind that changing the name might help someone else feel more connected.

You know, this is going to sound weird, but I actually don't want this change. I'm usually all for quality of life changes, but somehow making the name changeable would make my companion feel less 'real' to me. Like, right now my companion (well, all of them, since I have 14) is a real creature that lives with me and helps me and it has a name that I can't change. If I want one with a different name I need to get another companion. I guess that adds to the immersion, for me anyway.

However, this is a pretty silly reason to oppose a quality of life change that many people want. So I guess I should support it. I'm not trying to outright oppose it or say that it's a bad idea. I just wanted to let you guys know that there are people who might not enjoy making the name a completely whimsical thing.

I hear you but I don't quite follow. Real life pets get name changes in real life. Like if you adopt a new pet, take in a stray, or just start calling the pet something different...it happens all the time.

ed: reverted to affect allies in a radius on cast rather than spawning an opt-in pickup. Allies can now opt-out by rolling or dodging, just like with Limbo's Banish. Speed can still be recast. The FOV is still reduced, so those that wanted to opt-out due to motion sickness may no longer find that necessary.*
    * The opt out is subject to change, we are still working on it, and movement flow creating unintentional opt-outs is certainly not desired.

I don't approve of this opt out method for speed.

    As it was said-

not gonna lie I don't like this, since I use rolling and dodging frequently when getting around it would mean that if I want the speed buff and I get it I will have to change my playstyle or else lose the effects

Ok lets look at one combo for one stance.

    Cleaving whirlwind, breaking bull.

The attack has you rapidly spinning with your sword. How do you show that in first person?

Or how about a regular melee spin attack?

You could argue that you switch to third person for melee, but that brings with it the disorientation of rapid switches.

There is no good way to make this game work in first person. And at any rate third is objectively better, as you have a greater field of view and a better idea of where your character is and what they are doing. Even from an immersion standpoint it make sense. We are not our character, we are controlling them.

There are plenty of good first person shooters out there already, warframe doesn't need to be one.

For the first question-if you're playing melee in first person then you have to expect to not see the flourishing of your movements. It's not something I would personally do but if someone insists on it who am I to tell them not to. Though I could see why someone would be against full on melee mode in first person view. As for switching to third person for melee mode. (melee mode not quick melee) That's actually a pretty common concept used in many games for many years. From some old Jedi star wars games to recent things like Destiny. It's clearly not disorienting to quite a few people so we can't pretend it's some giant deterrent. And again..we are talking about an option here. Remember that no feature is meant to please everyone...it's just meant to please a certain group. BTW-In terms of lore and immersion either view makes just as much sense as the other. lol

You say "there is no good way to make this game work in first person", what you're really saying is there is no way to make it work in first person for your tastes.

If you leave the games animations as they are and just fix the camera at eyeheight, and have it not move like you say, a lot of animations would look janky as hell.

What would you show the player when they do a spin attack in first person?

That is the point I made, the amount of extra animations you would have to make to have first person mode not look garbage is massive.

Why would it look "Janky"? Honestly I'm not sure what you mean by "janky". Sure the player would appear to be zooming around and changing directions really quickly...and some  amount of new weapon position animations and may be required to make everything look right. But no massive workload for such a task...unless you try to do some whole thing where you show feet and hands for all sorts of stuff. Even that isn't necessarily that big of  a deal...the real question comes down to whether or not it could pull in another group of players. There is no way to really answer that.

No they couldn't. FPS is not for a game where you're supposed to look ninja while flipping through the air and running on walls (and no, Titanfall is not a good example of this). There are many better things I can imagine the devs doing for us rather than programming something that would be used for about 5 missions, and then get shut down. Like Conclave.

And I repeat. DE has stated that WF will never be FPS.

Again, there is a way such things are designed for first person view. How many people would use it and how often? None of us could claim to know that. So whether it's worth the trouble is anyones guess. And I repeat, while DE has said no to this already it would not be the first time they said no at one point then changed their mind later.

simply tack the camera onto the players head, this results in a lot of animations looking goofy or causing disorientation to the player.

Think about what you would see in a spin melee attack. With true first person view your screen would spin rather quickly, while a static viewpoint would involve you watching your character spin while your 'head' stayed facing forward.

I already explained how this works out on the first page.

Actually, I think they already said that it's not going to happen.

Correct they did say that. They also said other things would not happen that have. Hence my particular phrasing before.

  11. Every time the First person view option discussion comes up some folks argue that it would be disorienting primarily because of the movement system in warframe.

    Two things-

1: If it was an option simply don't use it if you find it disorienting. The only question is are there enough people who would like it that it would be worth implementing.

2: First person view does not mean the camera literally follows the characters eyes at all times. In many FPS games with unique movement the camera is built to give the player a clear view of what is in front of them regardless of whatever acrobatics the character model is doing. For example: Recently the team making Lawbreakers showed off the animation for one of their more acrobatic characters. From the view of anyone seeing the character model they are flipping and corkscrewing through the air but from the view of the player controlling it everything is a straight forward view.

All that said I don't believe DE has shown any interest in doing this and it's their choice. No big deal to me either way. But lets be clear on it, there is no real reason it couldn't work.
