  1. Okay, bit longer than I expected it to be, but it's finally here.

I would like to thank everyone who took the time to read this. It's been an absolutely crazy journey for the last six and a half months, getting through this step by step, and seeing the folks keep up with it has really helped me get through the hard parts. You're all wonderful people for putting up with my nonsense, and I can only hope you've all enjoyed reading it as much as I have writing it. It might be a weird little fan fiction thing on a small corner of the internet, but it means a lot to me as a growing writer to be able to do something like this.

I'd also like to thank DE for making Warframe in the first place. It's probably my favorite game of all time, I've gotten almost 1,500 hours of enjoyment from it, and I don't see that slowing down any time soon. Consider this weird little story as part of my thanks for making such a rich universe and letting us experience it as we have.

Anyway, the last two chapters are a doozy. 17 clocks in at a staggering 4,200 words, which makes it longer than most of the short stories I would write prior to starting this project. The epilogue is only 1,300 words, and I truly hope it leaves people satisfied with what I've created here.

    Thank you, everyone.

The entirety of Corpus On Ice sits at 40,669 words. Depending on which definition you go by, that's either a really long novella or a really short novel

    And the epilogue:

And that, dear readers, is Corpus On Ice

  2. The phrase I've heard for the Corpus is "purpose-bred", so while they aren't using tubes or cloning like the Grineer there's definitely some kind of hard eugenics going on in the Corpus population.

Other  than that, I absolutely agree. Glast Gambit is a good look at how some colonies might function, but other than that and Cetus/Fortuna we don't really see what day to day life looks like in the Origin System. There's probably dozens of cases like Cetus out there scattered across the system, but we don't see much of them because they aren't plot-relevant

  3. Quick update: I am doubling up on things which is why it's taking a moment longer than usual. Maybe a week and a half or so for the final chapter and epilogue.

    Thanks for waiting!

  4. Good news, I have chapter 16 up faster than I expected!

Also it's putting us right at the final battle, so this is where we hit the end of the road. One or two more chapters, and possibly a little epilogue or something. Just a smidge under 2,300 words, so by the time I'm done this whole thing will be sitting comfortably around 'novella' status.

Since this is the big climax, I'm also contemplating just putting a hold on the usual 'post chapter as written', write up the entirety of the ending, and dropping it in all at once. Would just flow better rather than having to stop and wait a week or two for me to crank out that last bit. Anywho thanks for reading, and as always, comments and feedback are welcome!

The reason I started this chapter where it begins is that I didn't think showing the exact, uh, procedure, would really benefit the story. Just slow things down at this point and would be a bit squeamish even for me.

  5. OKAY. I am so very sorry for the delay, my work schedule's been changed which messed up how and when I get my writing done as well. Hopefully I've gotten back into the swing of things properly and can return to my regular release schedule.

Chapter 15! Setting up the big finale here, we're on the final road towards the end. I'd like to thank everyone who's stuck with it up until this point, and my sincerest apologies to DE for what I've done with their world :P. About 2500 words long, and while it's probably a bit rougher than the usual work I pride myself on, I still hope people enjoy it.

As always, thoughts and feedback are always welcome!

Still waiting on DE to rework the Corpus or Infestation and invalidate half the stuff I've written here

  6. Moving along with chapter 14! The second part of the big twist, which should squarely launch us into the final arc of the story!
This chapter's a bit shorter, at 1700 words, but I'd rather it be short and get to the point than too long and filled with dull padding. I've been really excited to show off this part of the story for a while now, so I hope you all enjoy it!

Fun fact: June 16th is the five-month anniversary of me starting this project. Certainly has gone a long way since that board meeting, eh?

  7. This is a doozy of a chapter. It's one of the biggest points in the whole story, and I can honestly say that it's something I've been trying to build up towards since I started this project nearly six months ago. I'm not the best writer out there, even in the world of amateur fanfiction, so I'd like to take a moment to thank everyone who's taken the time to read this. 2.1k words.

Right now the story's hit a total of 28,622 words

  8. I managed to get a really productive few sessions in there. Only took me a week, and even then it was a longer chapter than usual, clocking in at 2.7k words here.

I thought about breaking this into two chapters, but figured since I was so close to the next big plot point I'd try to fit it all into one, so hopefully it doesn't come off as too busy. The next chapter's going to be a doozy, too. I don't mean to hype it up too much, but it's one of the main plot points I've been angling towards for a while now, and is probably one of the bigger turning points in the story. Still gotta straddle that line of things getting way crazy without being too out of hand for what's essentially a side-story in the middle of nowhere, but I'm hoping people enjoy reading this as much as I have writing it!
As always, comments and feedback of all type are welcome, and thank you for reading!

One nice thing about writing Warframe stuff is that I can play the game and say that I'm actually doing work by calling it 'research'

  9. Got chapter eleven now! This was a fun chapter to write, since it's almost all action stuff going on. People like cool things happening and doing cool things, both in game and in fiction, so that was definitely something I wanted to show off here. Well, I think it's cool stuff, at least, your mileage may vary as they tend to say. Really this is an exercise at how much I can believably beat up my main cast. Still unsure how many chapters this is going to be total. Probably between 15 and 20, but nothing's set in stone. 2,200 words, so a hair bigger than usual. As always, comments and feedback are welcome in all their forms.

    Thank you for reading!

Man, I'm really glad I didn't set this story on Jupiter, since I'd be trying to describe a tileset that no longer exists

  10. First off, I'd like to say thank you for the kind words! That I've managed to convince someone else to sit down and write means a lot to me, along with the praise for Corpus On Ice.

That being said, this story is good. I mean, it's really #*!%ing good. Gloomy, yes, but warframe's setting isn't exactly a happy one and you've done a fantastic job at creating such a melancholic mood. You've also knocked it out of the park with the how wonderfully in-character this feels, which is something I'll admit to struggling with a lot when I write, where I'll forget to showing things through the lens of the main character. It really makes people emphasize with them when you get the reader stuck in their head this well, and getting someone to care for your characters is one of the most important things a writer should be striving for. Part of what I'm trying to do with Corpus on Ice is showing what this world looks like from what's essentially cannon fodder the players chew through on a daily basis, and throwing Dak in such a desolate scene really drives home what these NPCs deal with on a daily basis.

Thank you for sharing this! It's genuinely one of my favorite pieces of fanfiction I've seen for warframe, and I'm not just saying that because you've complimented my stuff. Keep up the good work!

PS: Don't worry about the google docs thing. Everyone makes that mistake at first.

  11. Glad I've managed to make an antagonist that gets people's blood boiling so much :)

Also, here's chapter 10! Bit shorter than the others at about 1,800 words, but it's pretty actiony to make up for it. Normally I'd try to fill it up with a bit more stuff, since they're short enough as it is, but it covers one general scene, so I'd rather have a short punch than filler that takes away from the fast pacing I want this section to have. We are in the second half of things, but there's still a ways to go and I have one more big trick up my sleeve I'm really looking forward to throwing out there.

Fun Fact: Travens was once in the same building as a Board of Directors meeting, which is the closest any of these characters have gotten to the top of the Corpus hierarchy.

  12. Chapter 9 is up, and I'm glad that I can still manage the chapter per week pace I've got going here. Hopefully these next few chapters are really fun for people to read, because they're pretty damn fun for me to write. This isn't to say that I haven't enjoyed the previous chapters, but I was worried that wandering about a half-ruined site wasn't terribly exciting for some people to enjoy.

2,000 words again. As always, feedback and commentary is welcome. Thanks for reading!

Fun fact: Mikel's previous jobs include being an asteroid miner, a construction worker, leading salvage crews across the Origin system, a Venusian fur trapper, and a used rover salesman

  13. Donar has a very intricate plan involving P63

    1. Send a bunch of dudes over to an abandoned site sitting right next to a heavily infested dark sector

    2. ???

    3. Profit!

  14. Gotta keep moving! 1,900 words! Been hitting some decent strides with the last few chapters, so hopefully I can keep up this pace for a bit longer. We're moving onto the latter half of things now, and while I can't give an exact estimate of how many chapters this will be, I'm aiming for less than twenty. Fifteen maybe? Nothing's set in stone just yet. As always, thank you for reading, and commentary/feedback is more than welcome!

Fun fact: Rahl enjoys watching the late-night Corpus shopping channel just before bed. He claims it's to keep an eye on the robotics market, but the truth is that he finds the vaporwave-esque music soothing and it helps him fall asleep

  15. Okay, first of all I'd like to apologize for the delayed chapter. This one is a bit larger than the others (3 thousand words) and I had to deal with some house  remodeling that interfered with my writing schedule, but here's chapter six finally!

We've finally broken through and are hitting the next major plot beat, so ideally things are going to move a bit faster from this point on. I'd like to thank everyone who stuck with it to this point, it's been a ride so far and you've all been wonderful readers. As always, any commentary and feedback is welcome!

Fun fact, Strova is currently the arm-wrestling champion on Regna

  16. Chapter 5

This is a bit of an odd one. It was originally going to be the opening part of a larger chapter, but as I wrote it I realized that it would take waaaay too long to get through this scene and the rest of the stuff I intended it to cover. So instead I gave it a chapter break and added in a bit more detail so it wouldn't be skimpier than my already relatively short chapters, and here we go! The good news is that this means I have the outline for the next chapter already finished, so I can jump straight into the actual writing parts of it. Another 2k words here, by the way.

Once again, thanks for the read!

  17. Chapter 4, up and ready to go!

This one's a bit longer than the previous chapters, sitting at about 3k words instead of the usual 2k. Things are moving along pretty nicely, and we're definitely into the main 'meat' of the story at this point. I know the main plot points of where the story is going to go, of course, but the actual word count and number of chapters is a bit more fluid and tends to change as I write.

    Thank you for reading!

Also, just to satisfy my personal curiosity, roughly where is P63 located?

I debated over whether or not I should actively say or go with the "wait and find out ;)" that some people could do, but here you go!

  19. Okay!

Apologies for the wait, that took a bit longer than it should've, but I have the second chapter now for those lovely folks that are interested. Also about 2k words long, same as the first, so thank you for your patience!

    Chapter 2

That was a fun read, hope you have more planned because it's quite fun seeing the Origin system through the eyes of our enemies. Also I hope Strova doesn't get ripped apart by some random Nekros looking for torids because she's already my favourite character here lol

I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks! Strova's super fun to write for since she's so cheerful

  21. Uh, hello, my name is Krinkel, and for those of you who don't know, I'm an amateur science fiction/fantasy writer. I've been playing Warframe for a few years now, and while I wouldn't call myself a veteran I do think I'm well-seasoned. Lately I had the brilliant idea of combining my two interests, so I made a thing. I didn't see a fan-fiction section, so hopefully I'm not posting it on the right area (I don't post here often)

Rather than dropping an entire novella on you all, I figure I'll break it down into specific chapters and post as I go. That being said, this one is just over two thousand words long, so I wouldn't blame people if they didn't want to bother.

Thoughts and feedback is always welcome, as is laughing at my dumb stuff or berating me for how I've probably botched the lore. Thanks in advance!

    I'm so sorry
