  1. The reason for Excal Prime existing in the first place was because DE was literally on the verge of going out of business, and desperately needed an influx of cash. The Founder's program was a hail mary to keep the game alive. People that bought in at the time had no idea if they were throwing their money down a hole or not. The context is completely different.

But, like I've said multiple times, a decade later, I would not give a single fig if Excal Prime were made available to the public. Most Founders I've talked to feel this way. But DE still feels like they must honor that promise, even if we Founders either don't care or want the opposite. It's frustrating, but it's also something that DE made clear over the years was a one-off, and not something they wanted to do again - which is part of why the fanbase collectively turned against them so hard and burned DE in effigy over the heirlooms being FOMO. Because we'd had a decade of the best, least exploitative live service model on the market, one that I feel should be a model for how others should treat their customers, and then we got hit with that on the anniversary out of nowhere.

"Let's celebrate ten years of the best customer-facing live service in the industry by combining some of the worst, most anti-consumer practices out there into one package" is, again, something I'm genuinely shocked made it out of the pitch room, along with that "hey let's not fix our quest system, let's have players pay to skip" debacle. It was so out of character that we wondered if this behavior was due to a Tencent mandate.

FOMO should not be something wielded against your customers in a digital space. The heirlooms being limited is stupid and was totally unnecessary. As a 10th anniversary, in fact, I think the heirlooms should have been free for the few weeks and then become a paid cosmetic afterward. Or, again, only have them available around TennoCon time each year, essentially as an Heirloom Resurgence.

DE had multiple options to avoid walking into rakes, but decided on this one:

  2. There would be whiners, certainly. But I think 99% of people would recognize it as a good thing. Just, like, don't let DE get away with doing it a second time.

It would also be nice to offer blanket refunds to people that bought it with the sole reason that it would be exclusive. But, given they have to go through Sony for some people, it might be an issue(tm). But if they did, I doubt they would get many takers at this point.

The way they did the heirlooms was so bad that I'm still shocked made it out of the pitch room. Sure, celebrate your 10-year anniversary with your loyal customers with the reintroduction of FOMO items, at the time a fully unique and new attachment slot, for completely ludicrous prices, all in a year where pretty much everyone was hurting from inflation. Completely nuts, and they deserved the backlash from the community.

I'd be fine if they brought back the heirlooms permanently, but I'd also be fine with them being a yearly offering around the time of TennoCon. Release new heirlooms every TennoCon, bring the old ones back for purchase. Nothing should be locked away from someone forever just because they started playing later - that's just punishing late adopters.

(And yes, before anyone asks, if it were up to me, I would be totally fine with Excal Prime entering the general loot pool, because what do I care? I almost never even use the frame because in half the groups I join I either get someone toxic sneering about it or someone fawning and eventually trying to get my account information - because that's the kind of carp that happens when you create items like these, and Warframe didn't need more.)

As long as it's re-released with the same price tag, I don't really see the issue.

However, I also won't be upset if it never gets released again.  Sometimes you just miss out.  That's how life works, no matter how outraged you get.

This is a video game, not real life.

We don't need to deliberately import the sh** parts of real life to our games.

adding to my other post, if caliban doesn't get any kind of rework, what would people like for augment mods?

Aggrieved Progeny - Caliban redirects 50% of the damage he receives (increased by Strength), dividing it among any active Progeny (capped at 90%)

Compounding Wrath - Enemies affected by Sentient Wrath recast it from their location on death (radius of death explosions reduced to 5m with a max of 5 targets at base, Caliban's radius and max targets unaffected). (Think of this like a bad Sonar augment with CC.)

Chain Reaction - Two ideas on this one. Fusion Strike's pull strength and range is increased, and Fallout Zone now reprocs the vacuum effect several times over its duration. (Generally just a QOL mod so it's not so dependent on enemies walking through it)  OR Fallout Zone now deals heavy Heat damage and status to any enemies within its radius.

DE need to seriously think about the health and longevity of WF now, especially when they add new things into the game.

Unfortunately the time to start doing this was, like, six-plus years ago. I do not see how DE ever walks Warframe back from the abyss with their current model and incentives. It would take years of concerted effort to wrangle our power, MASSIVE nerfs to all mods across the board, and I just do not see that ever flying.

Like, take the rage over the AoE nerfs, multiply that by five, and make it constant for years. I'm pretty sure it would kill the company stone dead. Heck, look at the reaction to just Dante getting nerfed.

Which is why I don't think they're really trying these days. Just a few fixes or nerfs here and there to stop obnoxious gameplay, but otherwise just letting players go absolutely nuts outside of artificially enforced difficulty via various modifiers and RNG. Because they'd need a sequel to really sort all this out and start from zero, and that's what Soulframe is going to be.

And the latter - toxicity - comes not only from pub leechers alone, but also from some “pseudo-elitist” players who claim they are “having fun” with the mode, defending this bad game design because HOW DARE anyone criticize DE and their “perfect” creation.

Seriously, friend. You keep repeating this in every thread, and you're starting to sound like one of Those People.

There is not some secret cabal of players determined to lie about the fun they're having

  7. Most people complained at the time because you're right, more FOMO stuff is not acceptable in Warframe. *points to their avatar*

The only person I ever saw in favor of keeping it exclusive at the time wanted it kept like that to lord over other players, because they missed their chance to do so with Excal Prime and now it was their turn.

    It's toxic design, full stop.

There is no tap/hold on Fusion Strike. Not sure where you got that from.

    A bad memory.

The Sentients do have higher threat levels. Much higher infact.

Nah, the enemies will tend to shoot at whichever is closest, Caliban or the Progeny. You can pretty easily test this in the simulacrum.

  9. 1 - So incredibly bad that it's an automatic free helminth slot.

2 - Diet Rhino Stomp, except that unlike Stomp it ends whenever the enemy takes any kind of proc that triggers an animation. So they'll be off their feet, falling in midair, take an electric proc, and pop up onto their feet between frames to continue shooting you. On the plus side, it has a modest damage vulnerability, which at least partially makes up for its annoying habit of making enemies harder to shoot in the head.

3 - Melee Pet AI x3. In theory these things can take some heat for you while feeding you some shields. The latter has been somewhat bolstered by the recent shield buffs, but it would be nice if they had an increased threat level. They have the same threat level as you do, though, so while enemies WILL target them, but they have to be closer, so not as good as they could be. They will also basically be doing no damage because, you know. Melee pet AI. Maybe you can do some Nourish tricks here a la Nekros Nourishing his army.

4 - A pretty good area-based armor strip. It casts agonizingly slow and basically demands some Amber cast speed shards. On release it blew back enemies, but when people pointed out that that was, you know, kind of dumb when the whole things you wanted to do was to get enemies *into* the zone, the blowback was changed to Hold and they added a vacuum to Tap. Except that, when they programmed the strength of the vacuum effect, I think they missed a zero or two because enemies will often jutter, like, a foot in the direction of the impact point and then fall over. Not really a vacuum effect as we would expect. It's not awful as an ability, but there's just better options that do what it does better. But hey, since you're going to be subsuming over Caliban's 1 anyway, you might as well use this as your armor strip.

His passive also doesn't stack with Adaptation and caps at 50% which... honestly, kind of lame. If this was just Adaptation (or kept its current value but stacked multiplicatively with Adaptation), that would feel pretty good, because why *shouldn't* the abomination of Sentient and Warframe technology have really adaptive and resilient shields?

His kit is kind of an unsynergetic hodgepodge. Which, like, I get that thematically that makes sense (I mean, look at him), but that doesn't make it better to play. A real 1 that does something cool while working a way to kickstart his shield regen that's built into his kit baseline would be a nice start, along with the passive change.

Oh, and let him hold 3 to resummon all of his Lethal Progeny at once, please. Thanks.

  10. Dante has easy access to the ability to give his whole squad 50k+ Overguard without trying, the ability to give his allies a companion on crack through Wordwarden, the ability to make enemies specifically more vulnerable to status damage through Pageflight AND provide a form of CC because the birds have high threat and are invulnerable, and the ability to deal decent damage to the room through Tragedy.

But no, because he can no longer kill enemies in another room with Tragedy he's garbage. /s
