  1. UPDATE ON LEGACY CONFIG OPTION: https://forums.warframe.com/index.php?/topic/273383-upcoming-color-customization-fix-planned-for-hotfix-1409/page-26?p=3219480#entry3219480

    My Colorful Tenno,

Today we’ll be releasing a small fix to a long-standing bug with our color customization code. If you’re a fan of color customization (like me) you’ll definitely notice richer colors, deeper blacks and a wider gamut. Before this change, rarely would the picker swatch match up with the item as you customized, this fix corrects that. Seeing how washed out the Kubrow colors with the broken color conversion was depressing the artists as well. Overall this is a nice quality and contrast improvement.

Of course there is a downside. It’s different. You may have gotten used to being washed out. Please accept my apologies! When we agonized over the before and after of Warframes and Kubrows, we felt this change was justified and that most palettes still offered saturation choices if people wanted to use them. What you see in the picker is what you get on your item now and that correctness seems best for the future.

Thank you for your understanding and patience. After the hotfix we will be inboxing a new “Gamma” color pack of de-saturated colors as a gift for transitioning to this corrected color code.

Now back to getting the Hotfix out – lots of issues addressed with matching, Dark Sectors, UI... (insert coffee here).

    -Steve

PS: If you’re interested in the technical side: Colors you see are in a format called “sRGB” which increases precision of dark colors, important when working in 8 bit (your monitor). Our shaders operate internally at a higher precision using "Linear” color. We (ok, it was me) missed the required conversion of the picker's SRGB value to the “Linear” value the material shaders require.

UPDATE: Wanted to show Kubrows fur contrast is radically improved with this fix which is a great relief to our artists. Here is a comparison from "all variants are washed out" to fix code on the right.

  2. TheGreatZamboni,

I handled this in a very un-Tenno way. No player who shares their ideas and passion about the game (and its flaws) should have their ideas dismissed as I did. I am sorry. I let pride get the better of me. Yes there are flaws in this game, but I love this game and I am proud of it, warts and all. That moment struck a nerve of course, because there are fundamental problems we haven't solved yet. We may not agree on the solutions but we do (and have repeatedly on streams before) admit the flaws you bring to light. I will always respect anyone who is passionate enough about the game to develop alternative solutions and challenge our thinking.

  3. Dear Tenno,

You may have read something about the business development side of Digital Extremes and it may have you concerned. For legal reasons, we can't disclose specifics but if you know the history of Warframe you'd know that we are intent on having Warframe's design remain in the hands of Digital Extremes. Yes, opportunities will arise for us but the game itself is and will remain a labor of love.

    -Steve

  4. Hey Mogamu! Thanks for this! I am totally with you on 1, medium on 2 and worry that 3 would defeat the purpose (it would just be reward 'creep' from the other nodes). I really appreciate this (and the tons of other feedback we've gotten).

We are working quickly to expand on this system - random stuff that is coming (that may miss the mark on some of your concerns but here goes):

-New game mode, potentially with vs. to make it more interesting and challenging to play contested sectors.

-Rail strategies in the from of types (nuke rail, as destabilizing force), as well as strength/weakness rail types to create some strategy in the planning and deployment phase.

-Troop preparation mechanics based on the rail strength/weakness you're attacking.

-Some amount of tactical responsiveness at rail level when being attacked (accessories you can build for your rail and deploy to bolster).

-Some grief reduction in battle pay baiting.

-Tenno Specter enhancements as well as the potential for individuals to build a 'simulacrum' object that captures their current load out and then is available by tacticians to deploy as Specters in a specific tower.

-Fix the damn 'first to click' as you mentioned.

    Longer term, it goes wider:

-Use the Dojo building (with UI improvements) to make the gameplay spaces players attack (ala Dungeon Keeper) to increase variety and fun.

-Faction invasions of Dark Sectors to widen the conflict.

-Some Lore and "ritualization" of all of these conflicts to address some of the 'Why are Tenno fighting Tenno'... expanding on Tenno as Warrior culture and making it easier for people to accept the cultural ramifications of this game mode.

-Road-building expansion of Dark Sectors (in that building a rail potentially reveals another Dark Sector beyond).

-These Dark Sectors will become the Frontier when the new faction invades (dramatic music).

*-As with everything, these are ideas we are pursuing and do not constitute a guarantee, void in Ontario, etc. :)

  5. Thanks very much for the screens - what kind of video card do you have? We definitely have hardware processing for Warframe in the device initialization but I'm wondering if the device driver is lying.

    Our Dx9 Init Code:

    UINT deviceFlags = D3DCREATE_HARDWARE_VERTEXPROCESSING | D3DCREATE_PUREDEVICE;

  6. So am I going to be waiting till 12 am EDT for the update or should I see it sooner Mr.Sinclair.

I am better at evading this question than predicting when it will get out. Today is the day... Much panic. Many coffees. Crossing t's, dotting i's.

  7. This is a post for all of DE, if it's in the wrong spot I hope someone will move it to the proper location.

Anyways, I just wanted to extend a personal thanks to all of DE. I figured this was easier than trying to send a PM to every single DE account on the forums.

The amount of hours you all have put into making this game fun and exciting is really amazing to me. I'm really glad to see the dedication to the game that you all show. A lot of game companies could (and should...) take after your example! I haven't been around since the beginning, I came into the game just before the survival event. Regardless, I have enjoyed playing this game so much and every little bit you all have added and changed is really reflected in the quality of the game.

Mainly the reason I wanted to say thanks, is I've gotten my sister and my father to play as well. My father doesn't live near by, so the only real way we can hang out and all that is via gaming online or driving a while to see him. Since we both have busy lives, the gaming route is usually the easier way to go. So when I say thanks, it really does mean a lot to me. You all have contributed so much blood, sweat, and tears to make this game great. This really does show! From the gameplay changes, to the artwork, to the tilesets, to the events, to the livestreams, and to everything else you all have done!

So here's to you DE, I raise a glass in your honor!

    Felix

Thanks for the kind words - hope you dig U13!

  8. Mr. Sinclair or if I can call you Steve. :)

Some time ago you shared the information that you liked an old movie "The Last Star Fighter" correct?

Well I'm also a fan of the movie and I remembered that there was an evil character named Lord Kril.

    http://thelaststarfighter.wikia.com/wiki/Lord_Kril - this guy. :P

My question is - is Lech Kril named after that character? :D

Thank you for your time. :)

:) No, but I wouldn't rule out subconscious influence! Man the CG in that movie so cringy and good. And the eye ball cleaning scene - love it!

  9. dont want to be the mean guy, but why wait for U13 to fix something like this?

    U13 when BTW?

Sorry :( I know it sucks to wait for it. We're holding it back from hot-fixes to make sure it gets as much testing as possible - it is a very invasive change to the way the game thread updates and its important that we don't improve one case at the expensive of another.

  10. Hey guys - the poor GPU balance in the void case is primarily because the Void traps are updating all of the time, across the whole map, every frame. These traps update on the main 'game' thread and take so long it can sometimes look like poor CPU utilization too (because the other threads running effects, physics, collision, animation and rendering are 'fed' by the game thread). U13 has fixes for this and other generic cases of 'stuff far away from enemies and players eating up CPU for no reason'.

That's why you see the big jump in FPS/GPU utilization from pausing the game in solo... this skips all the game thread work to update objects so the other threads all get work to do much faster... including the rendering thread feeding work to the GPU.

TL;DR - yeah we suck, the game thread stalls in some levels (void traps are the worst) but this is fixed (aka: way better) in U13!

  11. The Real Cicero Crisis... (Clan Scoring)

The real crisis for us has been how to score an event for clans while avoiding weeks-long grind for individuals, all while avoiding schemes that destroy our stats server.

We argued a lot today about simply cutting the clan part of this event when we realized it was going to burn people out. Throughout the morning we tried to hack 'average score of your participating members' like we did in the past.

Problem with Cicero versus the Survival event (where we did similar average-of-best scoring) is these Cicero scores are too coarse. For small clans we will see a lot of clans tied in the three medal categories. We accept that. For large clans, the competition is a bit more intense due to membership counts adding more variation. Good luck.

Personal score is unchanged: your top score from any run.

Clan score is simplified: average of all your participating membership's personal score. Hacky tie-breaking grind aspects are gone.

If you're a dedicated Warframer and you've been grinding this event for your Clan I'm very sorry to change this under your feet like this. I respect your time and I'm sorry we let you down while dithering on this.

I hope you are still digging the tease of Hek's madness, the beauty of the overgrown post-Orokin era Earth, and the thorny glory of Oberon! For me this marks a new height in my career: I finally made the Ninja-Botany game I've always dreamt of.

    Happy Hunting/Holidays Tenno

PS: We're still busy here, cramming on getting the new hotness onto PS4... more sanity passes on the damage resistances... aka still channeling feedback from to this incredible community and trying to live up to their expectations.

  12. PS4 ZOMG U11!

Alad V's face needs smashing on PS4! A lot of great things rolled out on PS4 today. Tons of great content. Tons of improvements to the camera and input system. If you're a new Warframer on PS4, welcome and thanks for playing - I hope you like the new stuff. I am sorry it got held up so long and we will continue to push for more and faster releases!

    11.3 Ugh:

There is so much badass stuff in 11.3 but I wanted to drop in and apologize for the violent changes in 11.3 that we did not communicate ahead of time. That was stupid. We are pretty bullish about change and challenging the status quo but you deserve fair warning and dialogue when big stuff is coming like say... I dunno removing an entire faction (sort of).

    Infestation/Outbreaks:

We've got a lot of great/angry/polite feedback on the changes and we're listening and acting on them quickly. We're going to continue to tune the invasions and outbreaks - internally we are sharply divided on the Infestation change - but I hope you can bear with us as we work on improving it. I think the dynamics within the solar chart are refreshing in concept... execution needs work. There are straight up progression bugs and such that are getting fixed immediately.

    Damage Resistance OMGWTFBBQ:

The elemental combinations created more damage types which demanded more attention to enemy type differentiation. Enter Excel. Enter Madness.

I am in the process of greatly reducing the complexity of the resistance changes. My plan is to 'increase the good' vs. 'decrease the bad'. For most enemies there will be 3 bonuses and 1 resistance. The resistance amount will be cut by 1/3rd.

    Network Bandwidth Optimizations:

Sadly the programmer that checked in network bandwidth reduction (me) didn't call it out in the change notes! Clients are sending half the data they used to. Host outgoing bandwidth has been reduced by 30-40%. These changes help bandwidth and CPU time for hosts.

    Presence Issues Last Night:

Should all be resolved. We switched some packet hashing on the presence server which pinned the CPU - this was fixed within the hour.

    Warframe Buffs:

Damage resistances/Damage 2.0 screwing up Warframes. We've confiscated the nerf hammer from Scott and replaced it with the Galatine of Buffing. Expect some positive changes to suffering Warframes in the next week.

    Cross-play/Rainbow Bridge (sad emoticon):

So this sucks. It's about 95% our fault too. We *still* haven't got the builds synchronized and it won't be happening this month. For those anxious to migrate your accounts, I'm sorry we sucked at this. Much of this is just slashing migration flexibility in order to make launch. The team is looking at possible ways to migrate when the builds are out of sync. I will update when I know more... I know it sounds like hot air, but we all are still committed to getting cross-play working. The agony is staring at certification time and holding back updates on PC.

    XP Distribution Changes:

Glen will post separately about this but we're going to be adjusting how 'radial/shared' XP earnings are distributed among your gear (based on use). This, along with the XP boost and Sentinel XP fixes, should mean your advancement is making a lot more sense and hasn't degraded from U10 levels.

    Next Week:

The Jungle! A Warframe! We'll be showing off treats on tomorrow's livestream!

Now back to the code/tables for me, while I scratch my pathetic beard regrowth.

  13. Hey Steve,

i pm'ed you a while ago and you didn't reply.

What is with the lags and fps drops in end game? i mean playing with <10fps isn't that fun(pic related)

    i1985bpuxvh.jpg

I suggested a temporary solution: where in time/wave X there is a reset or ppl get an opportunity to reset manually (just to clear the map). migration helped prio u11.

Looking at this as well - brutal FPS - will fix.
