Ah the touted Nef Anyo boss battle. I remember watching the devstream and poof, next update Sergeant Anyo was gone and soon to be replaced by a new and exciting boss battle.

    That was years ago.

I also remember the supposed boss fight being more sniper intensive, more of a gauntlet where Nef would hit you from a distance before you made it to his arena. Kinda like Vay Hek is (or became?). Show of hands, who here remembers Derf Anyo? How often that mad lad was teased in those days was nothing short of CBT. Our famed wannabe Tenno with off-brand twin Skana on hover skates ended up being the Corpus Scrambus.

Why'd you have to go and remind me of poor Derf?

  2. Huh. I'm glad I read this thread, because it all seems like the opposite of what I want to be encountering all the time during an average play session.

I don't mind certain moral choices being presented as major plot points during quests or one-off story elements, but something about the idea of being hit with the moral question of rescuing Solaris constantly...

...it lands wrong on my brain somehow. If I were to press down my brain's attempt to engage the question, I'd be deliberately creating inhibitory gating against a more general response than what this specific game situation evokes. I mean, maybe deliberately forcing myself not to care against my normal impulse won't mess my brain up in any noticeable unexpected ways but I don't think I care to try and find out.

Not knowing anything about how this new stuff plays out in practice, it all sounds like the kind of thing I'd rather not touch.

So another week of no streams. There's been 0 communication aside from the corporate BLM statement. Lost most of my hype for Deadlock Protocol as well.

While it's true that DE has lately been doing a lot of stuff I almost couldn't disagree with more strongly...

It's important to have compassion for just how precarious and stressful their situation is right now. The problems they currently face are a fiendishly complicated mixture of world events, industry trends, assorted short- and long-term consequences of their work culture and choices.

I think many of the people within DE, if not all, are stressed nearly to the breaking point. Some may have already passed that point. As tempting as it is to continue to criticize and poke fun for my own satisfaction, I would want us all to remember the importance of compassion - it seems to be greatly lacking in the current global moment.

If I don't feel I can support or enjoy the game, that's one thing. I can still wish DE and its people well, even when they're making choices I don't like.

This is going to be fun moving forward.

That's Warframe for you. Look no further than the Guides of the Lotus and the Partner Program.

GotL was (until its dissolution) a miniature little NKVD, and the same is true now with the Partner Program. People work tirelessly to compile ammunition for future moves against each other. The rules of the game can change at any moment, without notice to you, and suddenly you are in disfavor with the local Troika. Enjoy GULAG, you naughty anti-revolutionary.

  5. I can't say for sure whether I agree with everything Dan is saying or has said regarding you know what hot topic, but he shouldn't have been removed like this.

DE continue to demonstrate that they are interested only in dictation, and not conversation. Ignore the people brusquely demanding that you "educate yourself." Their goal is to distract, deflect and bluff their way out of handling the uncomfortable part of these discussions.

As regards his abrupt removal from the Partner Program, I support Dan and everyone else calling for more transparency about this.

Can you give some sort of vague description of what you’re talking about with the Contra video? 🤔 I did a search but came up empty, unless it’s in Spanish, and I’m quite curious now. This is the first time I’ve heard of this (I think)

That all happened within a thread that may ruffle a few feathers to mention, but it's worth going through for people interested in the history of this game's culture:

The relevant page itself, and the full thread.

Mention was made of a particular youtuber and their thoughts on the topic being discussed. I decided to take the time to pick apart the video and enumerate the faults in its reasoning. The response was kinda unexpected, honestly. I think a couple brains momentarily shorted out.

i have no idea what you're saying but evidently it didn't leave any impact on me/was completely irrelevant.

OP asked where the term came from/how it's used, and I answered to the best of my knowledge. The end.

It's fine if you don't remember. Other people (and the archives) do.

In case it was something genuinely traumatic, I won't bring it up in any specific detail here because that would be unkind.

What I can do is give you a little piece of general advice when it comes to being persuasive: you must first know how to set your feet. What I've noticed about your discussion style is that it contains a lot of buzzwords and presumptions. You act as though your unproven assertions are true - indeed, that they must be true because all decent people (we're told) agree.

It looks impressive enough, to people who are already prepared to accept your words without thinking about them. The problems pop up when people have to start thinking about them. It's a bit like a car with its tires stuck in mud or snow. You can rev the engine; you'll get a lot of superficially impactful noise and spray. The car, however, won't go anywhere because the tires have nothing solid to push against. That's what I see when I read the things you post. The words aren't grounded in anything substantive, and consequently there's no real motive force behind them.

Further critique and comment doesn't really seem appropriate for this thread, so I'll just end by saying that I now proudly identify as a gamer.

a significant number of people who play video games and self-identity with the word "gamer" often have very bad takes/opinions regarding sexism, racism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, etc. (i.e. are bigoted or ignorant)

and the take/opinion is often SO bad that it's not worth the effort to deconstruct it

it's SO common that it's just a stereotype now

What a silly thing to say.

I know it might have looked like I was having fun that time when I smashed the Contra video all to pieces, but it did take some effort. Please don't put me under pressure to start doing that sort of thing on a regular basis  😆

I can't disagree with this. I can't disagree with the voice of reason.

The proper forum for awareness is not this one. But the voice should be known and we must act in a responsible manner. I have a family member that went through discrimination in Florida State. This knocked my door. I can't act with apathy.

I find myself deeply conflicted on this topic.

Rather than align myself with any of the major developing schools of thought, I decided to go my own way on it.

    Spoiler

Black, White, Blue, and a flesh tone accent. My thinking was to try and capture all the tension and bring it into unity.

    Spoiler

There's a lot of tension right now between "black" and "white," between "blue" and both the other two. My goal was to give all three a voice, because they all partake of a shared quality - the "flesh" that sits at the borders between them all and binds the whole thing together.

Some would probably say this puts me in a certain group, and they're free to do that. It seemed worth sticking my neck out, just this tiny little bit, to get some cards out on the table and see what kind of response it generates. Even in the event that it's really unpopular, I can survive having a few people decide that I'm their enemy - or whatever the fashionable thing is these days.

  10. The only overlays I could think of would be Discord + Steam, and they weren't having any outages when that message popped up. News console did work, as did the browser I had running. Zero issues with any network connectivity as far as I could tell.

In fact, I couldn't find any portion of any program that was negatively affected by whatever triggered that message. That's what was so odd about it. Either way, it disappeared after restarting Warframe and hasn't come back.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  11. My game window has a 502 Bad Gateway error message stuck on it. It's the most bizarre thing, and I've never seen anything like it. I'm wondering if anyone else has:

I'm able to create game sessions, use chat and trade - as far as I can tell, game functionality isn't affected at all but... it's weird. I'd be interested to know whether anybody might be able to shed some light on this weirdness.

  12. This is because Dojos are now run on the same architecture that services the Relays, so they are now instanced (e.g. Clan Name 1, Clan Name 2, etc.).

I'm not sure if they have the same maximum player count as Relays, but the game is now capable of breaking heavily populated Dojos into multiple instances. That's why we see the numbers now.

  13. I hope he does it. I'll be interested to see how the courts interpret the law when everyone thumbs their noses at such an order.

People might also want to be aware that Congress is already going ahead with exactly the same kind of thing Trump has proposed, in the form of the EARN IT Act. This bill proposes to make Section 230 Safe Harbor provisions conditional upon adoption and enforcement of a Best Practices Handbook, which will be maintained by an appointed congressional committee.

If Section 230 protections are conditional, they may as well not exist. Don't get so focused on Trump that you miss what Congress will push through on its own initiative, because the political class is all the same. Blame Blearmph all you want, but remember that they all hate and despise you.

Doesn't changing region make more lag? Like, I play on Asia server, if I switch to NA server will it make me lag more?

It might, but (speaking only for myself) I'd welcome more Ph and assorted SEA peeps playing in NA region.

My interactions with players from that part of the world are overwhelmingly pleasant, and I'd much rather have a laggy connection to pleasant people than a perfect connection to a bunch of selfish jackwagons. 😆

Whatever you and other peeps need to do so that you can escape the dreaded ***, I'd support it.

If you use augur set mods/brief respite and you cast paralysis while your shields are down, your shields go up, but are almost immediately brought back to zero. You can't reset your shield gate with her 3 when it drains them back to zero. Her 2 is not recastable, so the only way to reset her shield gate is with her 1. Her 1 either drags you out of position or sends an enemy flying. It breaks the flow of combat for me. .

I might have to go back and look at her again, but with no reliable way to reset my shield gate, the frame is a pass from me.

Yeah, I dunno what to say except that I'm not having whatever problem it is that you're experiencing. Maybe that's because my enemies are always gently floating face-first towards my feet, but I've never experienced a situation where the shield drain after the Augur set effect reduced the shield all the way to actual zero.

We might also be handling different parts of the elephant, but resetting shield gate with Valkyr is something I consider an amusing luxury rather than a must-have survival tool. By the time you're needing to treat it as a survival tool with Valkyr, you're probably needing to abuse things like Magus Repair. It sounds to me more likely that the overall playstyle of the frame isn't your cup of tea, and I wouldn't call that a persuasive argument in favor of reworking the frame.

If anything, I don't want DE digging their fingers into Valkyr's kit because I don't trust them to use a light touch. I'm certain they'll break something about the frame that is very important to one or more of the nice little quirks I've come to enjoy, and I'd rather that didn't happen.

To me, Valkyr is the old inline six that I've gotten used to working with and learned to squeeze lots of extra performance from. Just because it doesn't sound like a HEMI doesn't mean it needs to be one. Jaguar's XK6 won LeMans three straight years and stayed in production for four decades for a reason. To really butcher the metaphor, I know how much extra compression Valkyr likes and what to expect from her. I'd prefer if DE didn't monkey around with my XK6.

  16. These repeated requests for Valkyr tweaks/reworks honestly confuse me, because I don't think Valkyr needs any real changes at all right now. The only place I could see some discussion happening would be Ripline, but I love it as is because it's useful for mobility without any of the lag-related horrors attached to spoiler mode. you can also pull squadmates with it

A rework would be awesome for her. I love Valkyr, and sad but true - she isn't very interesting to play. Other frames have many cool synergies between their abilities, Valkyr has nothing like that. She has 2 insanely OP abilities and 2 completely obsolete ones. (OP, I think we are playing a different game, Valkyr's Talons can shred any enemy to pieces. And the innate lifesteal is just almost like cheating!)

I hope people will continue making these threads until DE gets fed up with them and just makes the rework happen!

I wish people were a little more imaginative with their modding. I've built her for all sorts of weird and cool things. Range builds with Prolonged Paralysis for wide area crowd control and mass looting / sculpture scanning. Even just a little extra power strength with that Paralysis augment for range and efficiency means you can combo her 3 and 2, in that order, for even greater crowd control (even my 119% Str build still gives 37.5% enemy speed reduction).

Hysteria and Eternal War builds kinda speak for themselves; they aren't really my style. I will say that I think Hysterical Assault is underused and underrated.

    7 hours ago, Berzerkules said:

I'd play her if her 3 didn't cost shields to cast. With the addition of shield gating using shields as an expendable resource just does not work with my play style. She has no viable way to reset her shield gate. I'm also not a fan of exalted melee weapons since you can't equip acolyte mods.

I'd suggest working one or more of the Augur set mods into your builds. Paralysis sips energy, and I will confess I have abused the heck out of being able to continually gain tiny amounts of shield and reset the gate that way. You can also experiment with arcanes or other mod combos that give you access to shield regen procs; Valkyr is really no worse off than most other frames when it comes to shield gating.

I think you kinda missed the mark again there DE.

I agree, but I think it's even worse than that. I think DE doesn't even know what the mark is

The systems that went live with The Old Blood and now Empyrean look to me like systems made without a cohesive vision. It's like a bunch of people were quietly pulling in a bunch of slightly different directions, and nobody was able to step in and impose a clear goal.

Something about all this is just giving me the sense that DE is ultimately letting people work on pretty much whatever they want, however they want, and hoping that any major problems with the work output can be fixed later. I'd like to be wrong about that, but right or wrong I still can't get away from the bottom line that DE is currently working in some kind of mode that not very many people are enjoying.

I'd have an easier time remaining interested in playing the game or recommending it to others if it looked like DE had a clear plan, but right now I'm just not seeing that. I keep sorta orbiting the forums in hopes of spotting something encouraging, but I dunno. Maybe someone else knows something I don't.

Didn't it take Rahatalius calling out DE on moderators for them to finally acknowledge the problem?

It did, but we have to remember a couple asterisks.

    Spoiler

First, their initial reaction was to brigade him on twitter with accusations of "personal attacks." Of course, at no point did he impugn the personal character of any DE staff, and he was diligent in separating the facts from his opinion.

Second, they did the absolute minimum possible in terms of acknowledging anything. Absolutely nothing about the way they enforce their chosen policy has changed. They are no more willing to admit fault than they ever were, and we are all still guilty of being morally inferior peasants whenever it's convenient for DE.

Just saying, other online games has policy they wont tell you why you got banned because if they did like "you got banned for x or using x cheat" it will just make it easier for people to know if their cheat is detected for example and theres whole cheaters forums that the users will report to if they got a ban and the program theyre using is detected. Just an example.

You have good intention, but we dont know for sure if OP is telling the truth, because afk bans came from multiple people reporting it using support ticket, usually with recording or screenshoot.

Cheaters find out whether their cheats were detected regardless.

You would not believe the speed at which cheat programs get updated to remain undetectable.

I trust the OP because they have a very long record of not acting sketchy. You're also not telling the whole story when it comes to "multiple people reporting," because there is an entire sphere of Warframe's community that actively coordinates reports to harass people they don't like.

If you'll cast your mind back to the original implementation of Dark Sectors, huge clans and alliances jockeyed for control of the economy using any means necessary. The old hatreds of those days are still alive and well; at least one well-known community figure has bragged to me about their ability to lobby for the banning of accounts based only on petty grievances.
