    Did you even read his suggestions?  lol  How is what he suggested press 4 to win?  How can this forum produce productive and meaningful discussion when people don't even read and post like that?

    Also, show us your warframe usage.  If it is a press-x-to-win loadout... the irony is quite thick.

    Wasn't DE going to show a shiny hover text like "Roll with [ ] Key to get out of Rift" for the first 3 times a player is banished in his account's life time?  (or his game installation's life time if DE wants to save server cost).

    It does get tedious to type "FYI roll to get out of rift if you get banished," whenever I join a pug with limbo.  Often times, I just forget to say it.  Then even if I did say something, they don't always read or understand what it means, so they still do what he did.

Melee damage became God-Tier across the board (instead of a few clever combo) when Slide-Attack crit bonus started getting multiplied by Blood Rush instead of additive adding after the combo-multiplier.  It is intensified to the extreme by Melee Riven mod that add EVEN MORE base slide-attack critical chance and +damage to be multiplied.

    Well, DE has not change Slide-Crit back to additive with Blood Rush or nerf Riven, but (intentionally or otherwise) melee weapon as a whole was nerfed with stealth-melee multiplier change (source).  Slide-Attack Riven is still god-tier.  With so much multiplied slide crit, the first hit is all they need anyways, but many other melee playstyles took a very significant hit.  Many alternative playstyles that aren't OP got seriously nerfed.

    I think it's important that Tenno plead with DE to address the root issue of slide-crit calculation while the stealth-damage change is still on the table.  The worst case scenario is that DE nerfs slide-crit formula weeks or months down the line, and forget to bring back original stealth multiplier: a compounding double nerf that can push melee weapon into the abyss.

     

  4. An open world filled with quest markers and navigated by looking at the GUI offers a different experience than the same open world with no GUI and navigated by looking at the actual environment/landmarks.

    I'm not saying Plains of Eidolon should have no quest marker at all. Sometimes it's needed.  Though the impact of this "manually crafted" open world will be greater if players focus more on the landmarks than radar.

    For Plains of Eidolon, we get to fly.  It's really hard to get lost when we can take the bird's eye view at any point.  Removing quest marker should push the map designer to be more creative at populating the map with distinctive landmarks and make each region of the map visually distinguishable.   The mission can also dynamically place a landmark along with the mission objective (if the mission objective itself isn't visually identifiable from afar).  

    In practice, instead of "follow these quest markers to random points in open world," it's "find delerict orokin lander crash sites near the great lake."  The first will play like the existing game.  Beeline to objective marker then beeline to extraction marker.   The second will play more like an open world where you're flying around looking at the environment.  Maybe you find something else while you're scanning the area for original objective.  This is what everyone always talk about when they explain why they liked an open world game.

    When the player requests help to locate a target in the open world, the camera can pull up, turn to the target and zoom into it.  The key is that player will still be studying/looking at the open world to orient themselves.

    Player-set waypoint should stay of course.  Since that's like 60% of player communication.   :D

  5. This is a great move.  Understanding the root cause and addressing it, not just flailing at the symptoms.

    I'd suggest checking out mobile gatcha games.  They pretty much live on RNG slot machine mechanics.  They have crap odds, but many give safety net against extreme bad luck.  For example, cumulative luck bonus bonus until you get a top tier unit and cosulation token/items from bad rolls.  Sortie's system is the lowest/worst type that usually piss off whales (high $$$ players).  You have to convince them constantly that "the next pull on the slot machine will be better" one way or another.  If your players think "next pull is going to be garbage like the last 5 times," your slot machine failed.

Most tilesets are just visual differences that don't affect gameplay.  They all play the same.  That's why I liked many mastery tests where you sneak, jump and actually aim.  Basically everything that make you feel like a finesse-based ninja than a face-roll mass-exterminator.  I can understand how some challenge maps would make no sense in the "real world" factions' maps, but they are too fun to be just one-time things!

    If DE can make a new region for VR dimension so that mission rotations can include these for variety sake.  It would help a lot with replayability. 

    VR dimension would also be a good clean start on resources.  Since it wouldn't make sense to drop real-world resource in "the weave," it's a good opportunity to design new resource with reasonable acquisition rate that won't get inflated.

     

     

  7. DevStream #85 covered may core issues that is pulling Warframe down.

    • Undercover Boss:  Many good games fell off a cliff because the game ran away from the developer.  This is great that Steve is playing the game from scratch and getting crucial 1st-hand experience of his game.
    • Resource Stockpile:  DE already has the perfect answer for this.  Change passive acquisition of rare resource and give them out as mission reward.  It can be like Kuva or a variation of Excavation mission (ex:  A Mutagen Sample Excavation mission will give 5 Mutagen Sample per extractor, but no other reward).  This way, people trying to farm a rare resource will not be slapped by RNG and people who aren't trying to farm it won't unintentionally inflate the market.   
    • Nullifier Change:  This is indirectly balancing weapons through better enemy design.  I hope this helps DE open up the meta.  For example, Grineer Heavy Gunner can get a reload animation that exposes a weak point for slow-firing burst weapon to take advantage of.  This allows player to play smart instead of relying on fast-firing slash/corrosive to kill lvl 150 Heavy Grineer.
    • It's not Serration's Fault:  The meta that heavily focuses on max dps is created by the gameplay design.  Steve realizing and addressing the root problem instead of knee-jerk reaction is the mark of a great designer.  Hopefully the remarks that Scott added at the end is NOT the extend of it. Increasing enemy legality just means GREATER emphasis on "who one-shots who first."  It doesn't support horizontal progression at all.
    • Dynamic Encounter Design:  While each enemy dies too fast for complex behavior, simple AI design that make enemies work as a team will pay off big.  For example, spawn 3 Shield Lancers who stay in formation for a moving wall.  Have sniper run toward and stay close to an eximus with snowglobe or nullifier.

    You didn't misunderstand, but you do need to broaden your mind.

    If your gun does 100 damage and the enemy has 90 health, is +100% damage still mandatory mod even if it exists?

    Good game design is about having everything work together properly, not a bullish delete this or delete that.

    Steve made a good call leaving the damage mod, because it is a VALID modification option.  Making it non-mandatory is not the same as deleting it.

    That being said, i wouldn't be opposed to the idea of expanding the status effects/ applications into "red status" territory. Or some sort of status saturation or whatever you want to call it.

    You realize that this is just SLASH proc right?  It's a very tiny percentage of status weapons that can be useful.  Remember Slash is only 1 out of 13 status types.  Corrosive and Viral are a distant second.  Try making a status weapon that has no slash, viral, or corrosive viable against your favorite lvl 145 corrupted bombard. lol

  10. Yeah the problem with current charge attack is that it's unusable unless you're invincible.   You have to stand still like a fool while enemies move away and cover your face in bullets. lol

    Charge attack from melee 1.0 could be charged from around a corner while moving, hence a tactical burst damage.

  12. Yup.  Did not get any of Valkyr prime release or Prime Vault.

    Even if I get super lucky and get the relic I need, if it needs a radiant group, it's simply a giant pain in the butt.  Just a lot of hassle and not fun. 

    Not to mention when the radiant run fail to get the rare part... it's back to grinding for a needle in a hay stack.

  13. Warframe community is very different from highly competitive games like Counter Strike or MOBA.  There are 3 distinctive and strong points of view toward game balance.

    Group A just wants to have fun and doesn't take the game too seriously.   Powerful loadout is just an easy-button.  Everybody wins regardless because it's co-op PvE, so... no big deal.

    Group B has physical handicap (disabled or low dexterity).  Shooters are normally unplayable to them, but warframe is actually playable.  Instead of being carried every day in MOBA and Counter Strike, they can actually carry their friends in Warframe.

    Group C wants to dictate how the game should be played.  When they see someone using a loadout they consider trash, they bad mouth her for not knowing how to play the game.  If they see an easy-to-play loadout doing more damage than they do, they FLIP OUT.  They call that player a noob for following "the meta," then they lobby DE to kill the meta.

    When DE kills a powerful ability that Group C wants removed...

    Group A just has 1 less toy to play with.  Minor loss.  Slightly bigger loss if it was their favorite toy.

    Group B loses an important mechanic to compensate for their physical handicap.  

    Group C is very happy, encouraging Group C to continue bossing people over which play style should be allowed and which should die.

     

     

  14. We all have riven mods sitting around gathering dust like the weapons they were meant to rejuvenate.  Most riven mods are just not worth the grind.

    But what if each Riven has one free reroll each day?  Affected by disposition?

    Regardless of the details, any kind of recurring free reroll changes my perspective by A LOT. 

    • I'd be less clingy to my meta roll
    • Riven mods that are not worth the grind will see more action.
    • It'd be like login reward, but new gameplay every day, instead of every 100 days. 
    • Grinding kuva becomes voluntary commitment to get ahead: a easier pill to swallow than price-of-entry grind.  
    • People with terrible luck after 30 cycles have a reason to come back to it.
    • We'll spend more Endo maxing Riven if they don't suck... a much needed endo sink for veterans.

    Warframe community is all about its generosity.  What would you do if DE gives you free rerolls with no strings attached?
