Seems more like overguard NPCs were just made to keep players from camping, rather than adding any quality gameplay on the players' end. Especially since it was the same time they nerfed wukong and AoE, showing a clip of a player standing behind a wall camp-grinding. I'd say "the point" of overguard is to force you to move while at the same time disabling any option you have to prevent it from happening. There wasn't any plan or consideration towards the fun, the player or the gameplay of it. Then the bribe was "loot that made it worth it" (it didn't) as an admission of it being something negative that needed a payoff, with no quality in itself, lol. Having all your warframe abilities disabled is fun because:___________________ "I play video games to be able to not do anything". "I really have the most fun when I click a button and nothing happens".

My thing is like mario from 1986. Why is that game so amusing? It didn't force you to play on windows 12 and ban you for not having an i5 cpu. It's something about the input and the feedback and the risk/reward suspense, somewhere in there right? Funny sound effects and atmospheric animations over graphcis? For overguard, it isn't anything. It doesn't do anything. It's straight up the lowest point of video gaming, the low ball, in simply adding more hitpoint sponging and disabling the player. Rather than the gameplay offering more complexity, better AI or input depth, it disables the player to create artificual difficulty resulting in reduced gameplay. So if a video game is about doing something, agency and acting, what is overguard? It's anti-gaming; it removes your ability to 'do something'; to play, and forces you into repetitive tasks of the same action to stall the longevity artificially. If you have obstacle vs solution diverging into success or failure creating suspense as the formula for playing, the solution or the gameplay is missing and the equation falls apart. There is a hole next to pipe, but you can't jump. No one shows up for a video game to not play, to not have their abilities work, to not be able to do something. First order of a business in a video game, you have to be able to click button and the game responds, right? lol. It's elementary right? If game does not respond, brain will auto default to server crash or router went out or maybe the batteries of the keyboard died - it's the failed state, not working state. But that isn't even the most tragic part of the story. The most tragic part of the story is overguard came out along side "operator integration", with the declared goal of having people use operator more in combat. Now the objective less integration done by slowing operator down, adding a bunch of nerfs and having them waste time casting 300% more animations through among other things zenurik the most popular school aside, that was the perfect moment to 'give operator a point'. You have overguard enemies in one hand, you got 'operators needing a point' in the other. Then 1+1 does not equal 2. That's traditionally how you create a video game, yes? You set up an obstacle then you present a solution. Instead we got overguard with no point, no solution and no gameplay and nerfed operator with less integration and also no point. Like you can learn to work a camera or editing software, but does that mean you can make a movie? The magic that ties it together where is it at

If you are new to the game, you are better off having a masterplan for your entire account. So if it were me, I'd focus on unlocking the helminth system and nekros and nothing else. Reason being those are your first bottlenecks. You unlock frames but have no slots to store them, so you delete them and then have to regrind them later for the helminth. Second is every second you aren't running desecrate with nekros, anywhere, anytime, you are just burning through your own time and again, will have to repeat all 20 miles of the friday night march without drinking from your canteen. And that's warframe, in a nutshell, by design. Never lose focus of the bigger picture. Go grind out stacks of rare relics for a prime weapon - for a chance to get a component. Only to later learn the entire set is 15 plat. Whoops. 1 or 2 capture missions you would have had the 15 plat. The question is always the most optimal use of your time - search out the grind traps. You could spend weeks grinding in the wrong direction, basically just wasting your own time, if you put the blinders on. Or the warframe xaku. Only 4 materials to craft a component, easy right? Wrong. Those are gated behind entire tier 5 planet grinds - all 3 entire planets mind you. On paper it was just some little crystal that looked so innocent, it never said 15 individual grinds that are all time gated lol. So you have to read up on everything, study hard, plan it out ahead of time like you were running some damned franchise, find out where to get the most for your time but also what is the right order or sequence of the grind. In the case of voruna, you immediately check their crafting materials because there is a pretty good chance some of them are "stealth gated". You trust the game to tell you, you don't have access to the content required? Sucka. Now you have to keep grinding because you already wasted the first layer of time sunken cost right? A requirement inside a requirement inside a requirement deliberately kept hidden from you, hoping you aren't smart enough to read up first, plan second and play third. We call em babushka grinds, grinds inside grinds inside grinds. The basic gameplay of warframe is defeating the grind, which is to say 95% of that is reading. So read, study, plan, then read some more. Don't even think about clicking anything until you read 9 wiki pages and watched 4 manuals. /edit ps. I'd probably throw Carrier in there with looter, whereever possible to cut down on the grind too.

I would have let people play as Khal for regular missions to earn Khal syndicate standing. Same as wearing a sigil, only you are wearing Khal instead. Then mixed it in with the other NPCs they made playable, the Corpus one and Teshin and whoever else, and thrown them into either a fresh PVE faction mode or a clean PVP experience. Or both. Based on the premise that they added all those animations anyway and when it's a fresh start with fewer abilities and characters, it would be eaiser to balance. So for instance it they wanted to make a raid PVE version of it, it wouldn't mean too much work to build those characters around mmo trinity with healer, tank, dps. Like, my thing is I am still waiting on "necramechs on all maps" 2018, because I am not really that much into 'summer event gameplay'. I'd rather have items I can use everywhere. I haven't even been to duviri content island one single time because I play operator. Same thing with everything else, railjack, khal etc. it needs to fit into the real, normal, actual game.

Heheh, at the end of the day what matters is how much money they make. Of course you could spectulate if the numbers drop, less money will be spent but the steam numbers don't look that different from previous years. ... which isn't to say gameplay criticism is more or less relevant either way for that reason.

Before that, on a more fundamental level, player areas need basic player functionality. So for railjack, I thought it was a crying shame to not simply bring the orbiter into combat, since you already have a ship, with full functionality on it. I now get another ship but with all the functionality removed... well then I am staying with my old ship? Or move the features of the orbiter on to the railjack. Same thing applies to dormizone, dojo adn anywhere else. Why move somewhere, where the gameplay is blocked? When thye don't have the required gameplay features unblocked, they become meaningless. As is, it's just more loading screens, negative functionality into a deficit. They need to unblock the gameplay. Then we can talk about unblocking restrictions on all the things you aren't allowed to trade. Similarly I'd rather have NPCs server a point, so I add some things to the NPC's menu, then it beccomes a trading bot standing around at our dojo people can just load in and trade with if they want. The exact way faction NPCs already work, with a store window and a sound.wav when you click them, only it's player to player items instead.

What's that old quote about contributing meaning to things? Anyway, it's just classic developer inconsistency is all, there is no deeper meaning or motivation. So for example, if you look at the peculiar mods, one has no cooldown of any kind, the other has both a chance based activation PLUS a 20 seconds cooldown. Same thing applies to pet spawning. Crew mate pet have a 10 minutes cooldown, while khal pet has a constant uptime. Which by the way we begged them to not do, rendering the whole thing pointless back in the day. In so far as specters, they've been nerfed so many times, they can't even use "charge weapons", without running out of ammo at this point. I mean I am sure you can post rationalize a science fiction excuse, to nerf and break items, to save some other gameplay somewhere but eh, either things are in a good state or they aren't. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a useful specter in the entire game, that doesn't have most of their abilities nerfed. And then it becomes extra hilarious when the last round of specter nerfs last year was in the name of "AoE is the devil", when they turn around and give crap weapons AoE, exactly like we said they should have done instead. So we get the worst of both worlds. Only nixon and excalibur prime could go to china, am I right?

That is not the worst part of ESO, at all. The worst part is how it's a game mode to collect focus points, but on host migration they delete your progress for that whole round, everytime a player leaves. That is straight up by developer design and 100% the developer's fault, always is. A player could be new to the game, young, not even speak english, etc. clueless for any number of reasons, but the developers cannot claim innocence by ignorance, everything is their fault at all times, for forever. Round 1 you do not get focus points... because??? Nah, that doesn't start until round, where everyone starts leaving creating host migration and messing the whole situation up. It's another one of those, none of you ever actually played this game mode did you?
