  1. Fair use is a thing. But fair use merely allows you to create content using another entity's copyrighted material for the purposes of, for example, review, commentary, comparison, etc. What you CAN'T do is use a character or their likeness you don't own in your own commercial product. So for instance, if I created a model of Claudia Black as Vala merely to show off the work, even if I create some sort of game mod that includes it... as long as I'm not trying to SELL anything, that probably falls under fair use... but MGM could still send me a cease-and-desist and I'd have no choice but

So I only saw one other topic about this, and it doesn't have many views, so I figured I'd start another topic to highlight a potential big copyright issue with Warframe's new Vala character teased in the recent Devstream. The character model looks eerily like actress Claudia Black, who just happened to play a character named Vala in the television show Stargate SG-1. Claudia Black has very distinctive facial features and proportions, and the Vala model in Warframe mirrors those quite closely.   3. I thought the same thing. They could have a serious copyright issue here. I mean, it's not just that Claudia Black played a character named Vala in a fairly popular sci-fi series, or that the face model of the Warframe Vala looks eerily like someone tried to copy Claudia Black's face... it's also that Warframe's character has some very recognizable features of the Stargate SG-1 Vala character... namely what appears to be streaks of gray in the hair of the Warframe model that also appear on Stargate's Vala.
