    1. Not every planet has animals right now, but Oberon's passive is still his passive.

    2. Flexibility. You could have 1 ability be a DoT and have another be a burst. Or one be a burst, and another be a DoT.

Keep in mind, I'm not using these in the specific context of damage. Assuming all of the bard frames abilities will do damage based on their beats and pulses is silly.

    1. None of the older frames that got their passives later on have (very) useful passives nor do they rely upon them. Having an actual ability (set?) based on something not consistent is different.

    2. When min-maxing there's usually only one or two ways to go about things. Be it damage or something else. I could start writing down an entire list of frames here but I don't think that's necessary.
Of course, you don't have to go the optimal way so the the frame can be fun and have it make nice music but that's what would make it gimmicky, in my opinion. And, with the info they gave us, this seems like a likely scenario to me, given they stick to what they said.
Which is why I would like to put in my two cents that those ideas don't seem like a good idea to me.

    1. Sounds are situational...? Last I checked, every inch of this game has sound effects. Even space. And that's not even how space works. Volt's Ult was situational because not every tile has light fixtures or ones that counted towards his ultimate. Meaning he was really only useful on the tileset that had an insane amount of light fixtures: Corpus ships.

    2. What's stopping people from cramming all available notes in the first two rows is that if you actually make a tune, it would sound nice. Additionally, having a consistent sound would (as they said) be more along the lines of a DoT effect where the individual pulses would be weaker. Single notes would be more bursty.

    3.

    1. Not every place has the same level of noise

    2. Why go for DoT when you could kill all enemies at once? Point I'm trying to make is that there will probably be one or two effective ways of making "sound" and DE will probably have to try very hard to make those two ways sound good as well.

I'm not sure what you mean by "gimmick frame," either. To my understanding, every single frame in the game revolves around a gimmick so as to provide a unique skill set and play style, so if that's your actual problem well then there's the door.

"A gimmick is a novel device or idea designed primarily to attract attention or increase appeal, often with little intrinsic value. It is a unique or quirky feature designed to make a product or service "stand out" from its competitors. Product gimmicks are sometimes considered mere novelties, and tangential to the product's functioning. Gimmicks are occasionally viewed negatively, but some seemingly trivial gimmicks of the past have evolved into useful, permanent features."

In my understanding of the word gimmick it means something interesting but not very useful.
Even if the frame ends up being "not-very-useful" I'll probably still enjoy some time with it. It'd just be nicer if it was useful in sorties and the likes as well and not being dependent on terrain/sound to bring out it's full potential.

  4. EDIT: I want to clarify myself a bit here, yes I'd love to see the bard frame. No I do not want the meta to be one or two repetitive songs which are only effective in certain areas.
Potato pointed out a similar thing in one of his videos, will you believe a guy that has more subscribers than I have used words here? The video in the spoiler below starts at the proper time.

    Spoiler

These are all "speculations" but it is pretty much what will happen when they release the frame with powers as advertised in the DevStream, unless they manage to polish it really good. Which is why I made this post! To point that out. Of course we'll have to wait and see but I'd rather see a frame that doesn't need a rework the moment it is released.

    Original post:
The way they described the new Bard abilities makes me think it's going to be another gimmick frame. Here are my thoughts on two of the things they said about it's abilities in the last DevStream:

"Amplify ambient sound to increase damage" sounds too situational (remember old Volt ult?). I think the sounds in-game shouldn't affect the damage output in any way.

Highs/lows will do DoT/burst damage, so "nice" and "effective" songs will probably be separate things (repeat one tone over and over for maximum damage rather than make actual music). Limiting the amount of steps(?) to try and avoid that repetitive sound however, would limit the options in terms of creativity. Furthermore; what would prevent a player from cramming all available notes in the first two rows to get the most damage in the fastest possible way?

The idea of making and sharing your own music sounds good, but it'd be nice if the frame would be useful and not, well, a gimmick.

Hello, I (IGN: Orrinshire) am a new player wishing to learn and enjoy this game(currently a bit casually playing due to my study), after reading this thread, I feel like being a part of this alliance will be very enjoyable, so I would like to join any clan from this alliance, Thank you :D

    Welcome to the club!

PC may have Excal Prime, but they also have the fun of testing updates first. I'm OK with that tradeoff,  but thanks for the concern😉 (I wouldn't say no to a console only cosmetics pack though,ha ha)

There are console exclusive cosmetics, the Prestige(XBox) and Renown(PS4) packs

  7. The alliance I recruit for doesn't quite fit the bill, but I would like to give you a piece of information nonetheless,

Solar Rails are currently inactive. So apart from building them, there isn't an awful lot of experimenting to be had.
If it's just planning for the future than consider this reply non-existant.

We are an old clan now trying rebuild we used to be moon clan but we downgraded now to to storm clan since old members went inactive. we still have some amount of members with moderate active. we haven't been in an alliance yet after the whole clan shutdown. would like to join your alliance if possible.

    IGN-harrydk7

    clan:  X Spectres (storm clan)

You have been sent an invitation

  9. Hearing your own weapons at full volume and the enemy standing with his back to you a few meters away not giving a crap feels... Odd.

Adding an audible modifier to the sound so the mod would sound more like equipping a silencer would be very nice.

If that's too much work. there's the muffled outdoor (vacuum?) sound for firing weapons, having those instead of your regular sound when applying a Hush mod/using Banshee would be something.

At that point you just leave and come back. There is no reason to go 2 hours when you could do 2 1 hour runs or 4 30 min runs.

Some people enjoy the callenge, eh? I'd rather stay for 60 minutes than do 2 20 minute Survival runs. I was talking about "Actual survivalling" which isn't the "extract rinse and repeat" you mentioned.
