Is only SMB 1.0 a problem? Because my Windows 10 Workstation service runs automatically by default, and it depends on SMB 2.0 protocol. Are all versions problematic or just 1.0

If it was 1.0 I would have been far less polite.

In theory, if 1.0 is disabled, and you're running on the latest version, ... Well, let's say it's like flash player. Yes, the latest version is technically secure from all known exploits... But we all know it wont stay that way for long.

Regardless. Using this for a production project is very sloppy. Especially since this is just a game and not meant to be run in a secure enterprise environment.

  2. In the previous thread we determined that the Workstation service (and hence SMB protocol) is required to log in. I hope it goes without saying, that this is... stupid.

An educated guess by some of my fellow FGL members (programmers and security experts)...

If that is the reason, please fix it. If that isn't the reason, and it's something else, well, now you know where to start, and can stop reading here.

If this was an intentional design decision...

    Spoiler

and now that hat is off...

If it wasn't a mistake, but is in fact intentional, what. the. hell. is. wrong. with. you.

I hope whoever made that decision and whoever approved that decision both step on a lego.

really really really hoping this is a mistake...
I'm praying that this is just a slip up here... There's no way you would actually require SMB... right? right??

To be fair, yes, you can use SMB securely, assuming it's up to date (which is incredibly rare) and SMBv1 is disabled. But... This is just bad practice. SMB is a massive attack surface. Encouraging your install base to require this is unimaginable. Hell, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a single example in the game industry of where this has been done before.

For the sheer insanity this decision would require, I'm assuming this is a mistake... But let's just say I don't have absolute faith in DE's competence...

i'm guessing its because the build is coming straight from the dev kits ?? which obviously need the services for communication at their offices

    Maybe?

It worked before PoE, it's not local, smt is messed up from DE's side.

I confirmed. They now require the Workstation service to be running. I'm in a pretty large tech / programming / security group and we're all laughing our f**ing ***es off over here! This is incredible. I hope whoever made this change and whoever approved it steps on a lego. What the actual hell. This is mind blowing.

Notice how the big blue banner by Danielle that said they were fixing the login problem is now gone. Seems they fixed the network issue, and completely ignore / are baffled by - our own issue which seems to continue to exist.

Well, I mean, we could try to reverse engineer and datamine our clients to make sure that the problem isn't on our---- oh... wait... nope... banhammer

The """"""SUPPORT""""" is now trying to blame (rightfully) disabled SMB protocols on this. Which I highly doubt have anything to do with the issue.

Lol if SMB was the cause, we'd have bigger problems than not playing WF. I've micro-managed my PC since reinstalling win7. Customized services, tasks, group policy, nuked IE, secured the crap out of my browser, I have an inbound and outbound white-list firewall....

Everything worked fine until the planes of 911

I am thinking it is more of a MS/DE issue, for example I am running windows8.1 and there were a load of recent windows 10 updates that they didn't share with previous versions. I am using Google for DNS because the last time this happened my ISP was giving me the wrong IP. I am using Kaspersky AV because they are more interested in the NSA than they are the general public.

I could go on but to be frank the update should have checked to make certain all prerequisites are installed and problem identified before reporting sucess

I don't think so. I do some programming, and on the stream they said they fixed all the bugs testers found and quote "had to ship it sometime" so they did. I get bugs like this. But it's a minor part of the community and this is almost like a relaunch for warframe. I'm not shocked that a fix is taking it's time.

As said, if they shadowbanned people again, for whatever reason...then we would probably never get to hear from it.

I do know I had a few scrapes with Kickbot on the Council Chat when I get passionate about the game and consulting others about issues and imbalances and he just shrugs it off as "wanting to get everything without playing the game" before eventually kicking one from the chat for 45 minutes... sooo.

But again, I've been playing with no issues prior to this patch, so that can't be it.

Out of pure desire for a sanity check, I had a friend who is able to play warframe look at one of my posts. At least were confirmed to not be shadowbanned on the forums :D

Weird. Still the same problem as when the game updated yesterday... It is as if it does not even try to connect. Instant "Login Fail"... Are we blocked for some reason? Maybe they block the "less paying" players first to allow others to play? I mean, why can't they comment on this?

I'll put a nail in that coffin. >$1500

but im warming up to the shadowbanned conspiracy theory. Actually really fun to think about
