Please explain how that affects gameplay in any way. It's a cosmetic matter that doesn't affect the gameplay at all.
I think they used "male" and "female" in the market for easier identification of the products. Pretty sure it's for the customers, not the lore or anything like that. Although back then they hadn't even come up with the Operators yet. Maybe they did intend to make the frames actual "people", or clones or something like that at some point? In any case, that is no longer the case I'd say. Could have been a thing though. The devs themselves seem to have no clue where they're going with the lore of Warframe sometimes, from their own admittance.^^'

This is a recurrent question, but the devs made themselves very clear, it's not in the cards, although at the beginning of Warframe they had planned that. Probably was too much work back then for their resources.
10 minutes ago, low1991 said:Huh...? So saryn isn't a she? What are those 2 thing on the chest if that's the case? Air-cooler?
It's not a person. It doesn't have a biological sex, it's an imitation, a representation of our species, which happens to have two biological sexes with sexual dimorphism. So no, Saryn isn't a "she", she's the representation of a "she". Like a mannequin. Frames are built, not born. Each frame may or may not have been built to match the image of an existing person in the lore, but it's not a someone per se. We say "he" or "she" precisely because of that sexual dimorphism we see in each frame, that's all. It's because making them look familiar allows us to identify with them more easily I'd say.
Air-cooler thing made me laugh though.^^

Maybe just put Ravenous' base healing on the same level as Renewal without nerfing Obi? Also if range mods could affect the size of the "patch" of infestation, it would be nice. At least positive range please? It's already forcing you to stay within the confines of the patch if you want to benefit from it after all, so it being affected negatively would effectively kill this ability entirely IMO. Or maybe don't touch anything. Also works for me, even though I wouldn't say no to a more potent/versatile Ravenous.^^

I recommend a Shatterstorm build for Gara. It's insane.
-
Noice. Very noice.
-
Life Strike definitely. Keep it unranked. Other than that it's really up to you, the frames and builds you use.
-
How about making Elite Onslaught less a broken mess of a borefest and/or changing the interaction between a couple mods instead of nerfing (again) an entire frame because it makes it less tedious to play said specific imbalanced game mode with a very specific build? Just saying... It's an option...
-
I support that suggestion, along with the custom Hema skin one. Very fitting thematically indeed!

The devs spread themselves too thin. They have lots of ideas, try too many at the same time, and end up shooting themselves in the foot because they can't temper their enthusiasm. It's both a quality and a flaw. They never managed to find a way to balance it out unfortunately.
DEfine : Devstreams and Prime Times are a great idea, they keep the devs connected to the community, that's what you've been doing since the beginning, it works, keep that up, don't get sidetracked by a vocal minority of entitled children who never learned how to wait. But please, for the love of the Lotus, do not ignore feedback, especially when it overwhelmingly goes in the same direction, points out the same issues. And don't hype stuff years in advance, especially when you yourselves have no clue where you're going with it. You tend to do that, it comes back to bite you in the @ss and people end up frustrated with some flinging faeces all over the place.
DEadline : Simple. Don't. Don't set deadlines that you know are unattainable. Everyone knows you're not capable of sticking to your guns when it comes to that, not because you don't try, but because you set yourselves up for failure in that particular area by seeing too big, going too far with not enough time and resources. Just show how development is coming like you've been doing so far, don't project yourselves too far in the future, that's not one of your strongsuits. Stick to what you're good at : creating crazy stuff with a unique design and identity. That's all most of us want. Well, some would also like some fair challenge, but hey, been here since 2013, haven't really seen it once in Warframe, so I made my peace with that personally. Now I just want to have fun with all the stuff your game offers. Which is a lot. When it works, that is. Also sometimes when it doesn't work, hilariously enough.
DEliver : Just stop pushing content. Take your time. It's ready when it's ready. Ignore the crying children, they'll learn when they grow up. We know there will always be bugs. But pushing content like you do is just begging for an infestation. And hyping it up to then not give any info for a year is a major mistake. Umbra is a prime (wink wink) example of this tendency of yours to think too big and too far. And when you finally talk about it just to say you're changing it in an unexpected and/or substantial way, you're asking for trouble again. Don't hype stuff when you don't even know where you're going with it. You just piss players off and make yourselves look bad. Don't release stuff until you know it is actually functional. Live server may not mean dev build, we know there be bugs and instability, but it gets embarrassing and questionable when it happens with every reasonably big update on such a scale. Host migrations still ruining game modes after release when you've spent years working with that system makes you look bad. Again. We get that it's hard to make games, mistakes will be made, but when it's the same mistakes over and over, it gets on the nerves after a while.
Personally I have no illusions that this is going to change anytime soon. I've been there far too long to not have gotten used to it. And it has gone better along the way, at least in some areas. And the game has also changed a lot, still is, so yeah, hard to keep it together without the proverbial hitting the fan on a semi-regular basis. All in all, I think the devs are doing their best, which is more than can be said for the majority these days.

I like the idea of using the stances to change her abilities, many players have been asking for that, many proposing really good stuff, as does the OP.
Whipclaw should indeed be slash based, not impact of all things, it makes no sense, it's a whip, not a hammer. Slash procs in attack mode is a good idea, and it would synergize extremely well with Hunter mods, which would be perfect with Venari. That is, if they even all WORKED with her to begin with. The devs really dropped the ball here, sadly. Life Steal in heal stance is also a great idea, but for defense stance i'd actually create some sort of toggled "chain barrier" around Khora to reduce incoming damage and deal slash damage to enemies that come too close, pretty much like Gara's Splinter Storm. I know it feels like recycling, but I still like the idea.
Ensnare should not be a targeted only ability indeed, it should also work like a trap, ala Larva, and drag enemies in rapid succession towards it. Right now the ability feels bad mostly because killing the main target completely cancels it out. I like the idea of creating a dome when using Whipclaw on the trap, and making dead enemies disappear is a great idea, they really are a problem right now with Strangledome, blocking projectiles and line of sight.
I really like venari, but she does feel underwhelming. First, her attacks should indeed be slash based, as many requested. Her attack stance needs more "oomph" to it. Her defense stance should IMO turn her into a tank that draws enemy fire, or maybe make it so that both Venari and Khora get a damage reduction buff or something of the sort? At the very least Venari herself sould be much tankier in that stance. As for the heal stance, it is really disappointing in its current iteration. I would either make it a much better rejuvenation that heals the squad and other pets/Sentinels over time when close enough to Venari, maybe make it stronger the less health we have? Or maybe make it so that all attacks get an innate Life Steal in exchange for a reasonable energy drain? And of course, last but not least, Venari should be a PERMANENT summon, NOT a temporary one. It's the main selling point of Khora for Lotus' sake! Treat the deadly kitty with more respect dear devs, please.
Strangledome is not good. It's really not. It's clunky, dead enemies block our ranged attacks and our line of sight, it lasts only a few seconds even with a good duration build... It's just bad. It just doesn't FEEL like an ultimate to me, it would much better be used if it was part of Ensnare. I would like to see something better. Some people want the promised Exalted Whip, though I've seen other interesting ideas. Personally I would like an Exalted Whip that would not only vastly boost Khora's maneuvrability but also Venari's combat prowess, but I'm afraid of seeing a very clunky and unwieldy thing, so I can do without, as long as Khora gets an actual ultimate ability. The "Crazy kavat Lady" ultimate could be fun too for instance.

It never was supposed to be "endgame". There is no "endgame" in Warframe, not when it comes to challenge. Level 9999 enemies are not "endgame", just a poorly thought out, stupid enemy scaling at its worst, still failing to provide any real, fair challenge to players, only broken mechanics to be circumvented with even more broken mechanics. If you play Warframe for challenge, you're wasting your time. Warframe is all about the cheese, where giving the finger to a broken core game using its own broken parts in a beautiful irony is the actual endgame.

No fun allowed! Shut it down!
The Fun Police is always hard at work. Always.

The devs themselves stated on numerous occasions that they had no intention or desire to do such a thing. Nothing to do with can or can't. They don't WANT to, that's it. They have much more pressing matters to attend to.

It is unlikely it will get nerfed when we have tigris prime that does so much more single target damage.
Very different weapon types there. The Tigris Prime is a break-action shotgun. Quanta Vandal is a beam weapon. Tigris Prime is a burst damage weapon. Quanta Vandal is a sustained damage weapon. I get the feeling you only look at numbers on a sheet when making that kind of comparison. You can't compare weapons that aren't at all comparable to begin. It's like comparing a plane with a submarine. It makes no sense whatsoever.

Can we please drop the "founders can sue" excuse?
As they did not 'sign' anything. Their EULA agreements makes it possible for them to do anything. It is their game.
Excalibur Prime represents DE's commitment and respect to founders, and that they don't want to tarnish
They did "sign" something. They used what is called an "electronic signature". It's just as legally binding as an ink on paper signature.
EULAs actually aren't as all mighty as you seem to believe. Many countries have consumer protection laws that supercede ANY type of contract between consumers and companies. There's more than a reputation to tarnish here, there are actual digital laws at work too. That's why you don't see companies push the enveloppe too far, they are fully aware EULAs are nowhere near as good a protection as many people believe, they're not free passes allowing them to do whatever they want, they're here to protect EVERYONE from abuse.

Now a bunch of you are literally just saying no without giving a legitimate reason of why this wouldn't work long term, I get it, Excal prime was supposed to be exclusive to those who supported the game back when it first came out, The founders saved warframe and I thank them for that but why not give the founders that exist now something even better than excal prime? Again, he's a prime frame, don't you think it would be reasonable for the public to have prime frames and not have him locked behind a wall none of us can get to? give the founders something legitimately exclusive, Not an excal, even, Just a completely new frame and weapon set. or something, they deserve more than just excal prime especially because excal umbra is actually supposedly better than excal prime anyway.
You'd just be moving the issue to a different spot. It'd still be there, there'd still be SOMETHING that no one else can get but the Founders. You'd still have people complaining on the forums and ingame about it.
Just consider Founder stuff the equivalent of pre-order stuff. You missed your chance, deal with it. That's how business works, it sucks for some people yes, but that's how it is, whining for 5 years about something that will NOT change is pointless, and at this point, just aggravating for many.
-
That poor dead horse is still getting beaten on a regular basis I see.
The problem is they can't re-release Excalibur Prime, they specifically made it an exclusive reward for Founders. I do believe they are actually contractually obligated. They simply can't do it without breaching said contract, which could entail Founders to a full refund, I kid you not. There are laws for this stuff, and they're nasty on purpose, that's how people make sure legally binding contracts are respected.
-
I actually like Shuriken in its current form. You can spam it to build a lot of slash damage through procs, and the augment is basically a big middle finger to what I consider to be the second most broken part of enemy scaling : armor scaling. That's a lot of neat stuff for a 1.

I was commenting on his/her comment. If you read my post carefully, note that I did not specifically mention it is similar. I was simply saying why Carnatus might have the idea to equate Shonen Manga and Warframe, because I see the parallels. I do not think Carnatus equated the entire Manga Culture and Medium to Shonen, because he/she very specifically stated only Shonen, and did not talk about anime in entirety.
So you quote someone to comment on someone else's post? That's... convoluted?
They only compared it to one specific genre in a very broad medium. Didn't bother trying to compare it to other Manga. Why? Because it might not have fitted their narrative to point out other points of comparison with other genres. I find that intellectually dishonest. And I'm not going to point it out myself, I'm not the one who started this whole comparison thing, and it's not my job.
18 minutes ago, Datam4ss said:Please, don't call others out on selectivist reading when you yourself are just as guilty. It is simply the pot calling the kettle black. How you managed to read Carnatus' post as equating all manga to Shonen and Shonen being all manga, I will have no idea.
I was simply stating there is no need to choose between A and B. You seem intent on arguing for the sake of it, really, even after the reality is that there is no need to pick, and one does not affect the other.
I call things the way I see them. Again, I didn't start it, and I find it intellectually dishonest to deliberately only use comparison material that fits one's narrative. Am I guilty of doing the same thing? I'm certain I am, yes. But at least I am conscious of this and I try to avoid it as much as I can. Is it pertinent to this conversation though? I'd be inclined to say no, personally.
You state that there is no need to choose between A and B, and you know what? I agree! Yet does it mean that asking the question of which one you would choose if you had to isn't worth entertaining? After all, the devs may have to ask themselves this very question in the future depending on several factors, like time and resources available, or simply the direction the story is taking. So yes, maybe I am intent on "arguing" for the sake of it, and so what of it? I'm just covering every possible eventuality. And yes, I have a preference for one over the other if the situation ever came where I had to make a choice, for several different reasons. Is it such a bad thing? After all I did not say that I only wanted one. Just that in light of my personal experience with both aspects and the general interest I found I had in each in the majority of the video games I've played so far, I would prefer one aspect over the other. That's what started this whole conversation. And you know what? I'm glad it did. I'd rather butt heads with others and debate over different opinions and ideas than see everyone always agree on everything. What a boring world that would be.

They`ve tried!
Napalms..... people complain about firewalls
Scorpion/Ancient...... people complain about being grabbed
Knockdowns....people complain about being knocked down
Ghouls cold proc..... people complain about being slowed down and proc`d
Commander.....people complain about being teleported
etc. etc. etc.
Remember the idea for new eximus units with weakspots, everybody complaint.
According to some the maximum enemys AI would be allowed to do is being a Lancer or Charger. Name any other unit which does something and you find people moaning how they shouldn`t do it.
Warframe players are far too much not used to fail conditions anymore. And that`s usally a cruical part for most games.
Did they?
Napalms... AOE hits through cover. That's what's been bothering some players, that's pretty much it. You have to admit that it kinda sucks when the only way to avoid the AOE is to run away.
Scorpion/Ancient... hooks have a tendency to change trajectory mid-flight and hit players mid-bullet jump or even after they use abilities that conceal them, that's pretty much the only complaint I've seen about them. Oh also they remove player control over the frame for up to several seconds, some players don't like that. Some would argue that it's the punishment for getting hit, but I understand the frustration it may cause. Mosy players don't enjoy being robbed of their control over their character.
Knockdowns... pretty much all the complaints I've seen revolve around the fact that interrupting enemies when they "cast" knockdown attacks doesn't work. More specifically, the enemy does get interrupted and stunned, and yet the knockdown attack goes through the interruption, the wind-up still continuing. It's pretty obvious with Heavies/Bombards. Sure you can stay away or jump to avoid it, but interrutpions ought to work as well as far as I'm concerned. And again, robbing players of the control they have over their characters tends to be more frustrating than anything.
Ghouls cold proc... Haven't seen complaints about them actually. Must have missed that.
Haven't seen "everybody complaint" when weakspots were proposed for Eximus units. Thanks for reminding me of that though, I was wondering where this situation was. Sad to see it's apparently been scrapped.
"According to some". Can you point me to these "some"? Because I have never seen anyone ask for enemies to only be Lancers or Chargers personally.
I don't think the issue is failstates in Warframe, but rather that the issue is failstates implementation in Warframe. I also think most "Warframe players" probably don't play Warframe only. I know I don't. I play many games, many challenging games, because of the satisfaction I get from overcoming challenges. Which is why I say I don't feel that in Warframe. Because there is no challenge. A real challenge for me is something that forces me to use every tool at my disposal extensively, to plan and execute, to find and exploit weaknesses. In Warframe, this "challenge" mostly is taking away our power, because we have so much of it, without proposing any challenge in return, just more stuff to shoot. I wish I found it challenging, believe me. Unfortunately for me I don't. I guess I'm too used to games where tactical thinking and fine motor skill are consistently put to the test in order to progress. For me Warframe is closer to rock-paper-scissors, albeit with more elements to consider. Don't get me wrong the game is pretty damn good at it, and it's overall lots of fun, but all you need in Warframe to progress is the right mods and knowledge of the game's mechanics. I've been playing this game for 5 years now and I'm still here having tons of fun, but not because I'm hooked by the challenging gameplay. This game has many, many strong points, but challenge isn't one of them as far as I'm concerned.

The fact is that most Shonen manga and anime, as in material from that genre, does follow a very standard style. It is almost formulaic, in current day, because, as you mentioned, it is a specific genre is a broad medium. Which means they share enough details with each other to be classified as similar.
What I believe Carnatus was referring to is specifically Shonen material, which caters for quite the specific fanbase using a specific formula. Sure, they can try to make things different here and there, but the basic story is hardly changed. Warframe's superpowered teen child controlling golems has parallels to material such as Neon Genesis Evangelion, JoJo (with frames as Stands, although their lack of autonomy makes this a long shot), or even Fate/Extra's spiritron hacking and surrogate forms in the moon cell. But I digress.
I could list examples and point out the similarity, but this is not a manga/anime appreciation thread.
This is hardly very compelling, since they are not mutually exclusive. It seems as though you seem to be assuming that psychological and physical development are mutually exclusive when they are in fact not. It is almost like you believe developing in a certain aspect detracts from another aspect entirely.
In fact, what is wrong with the operator changing their thoughts as they grow up? Feeling more complex concerns as they develop in both mental and physical faculties. Perhaps even the day where they can wield the same weapons their frames use.
It can be argued that this makes the warframe obsolete, but no, a metal shell controlled by an adult actually understanding how to wield its full power, who is able to move and fight like it, utilised to its maximum capacity. Like how oversized clothes and shoes now fit well.
Sure, DE has limited time, and I can understand that, but I doubt the team in charge of graphic models is the same as the one in charge of voice acting and storyboard.
Sure, I can write a chunk like that, but the fact is actually just aesthetic to me. Angsty teens are just a bad memory and inelegant.
So if something has "parallels" with something else, it is de facto ENTIRELY similar? Sure, not reductive a view at all. Let's all go full retard with sweeping generalizations, I mean I get it, it's been a trend for the past few years, so why bother with individualities and specifics. But that's not even what I was responding to to begin with, which makes it frustrating to read that kind of comment. The person I was responding to very much equated the ENTIRE Manga culture and medium to this SINGLE, SPECIFIC genre. I disagreed with that statement.
I never said they were mutually exclusive. I specifically stated that if I was pressed to CHOOSE, I'd go with psychological development over physical development, nothing more. I SPECIFICALLY stated that I had nothing against one or the other.
It's almost like some people only really see what they WANT to see, read what they WANT to read, understand what they WANT to understand, all that in order to have words fit their own narrative...
-
I think some people here are misguided as to what the original point of this thread was : practicality.
The point was never that Ash is weak. He's not, he's more than fine as far as I'm concerned. I mean with a kit like his, you can pretty much do anything and everything. I've been playing him a LOT recently, almost exclusively actually, and he is an amazing frame (and I love his Deluxe skin). Again, the original point I and others have been trying to make before others basically derailed this thread is that the TARGETING system can sometimes be a bit wonky and impractical to use. It doesn't mean it's not useable or doesn't work. It's just not as optimized and user-friendly as other mutli-targeting abilities in the game, that's all. It has nothing to do with the power of the frame or the skill required to play it effectively.

Why I only took a small part? Because singling it out makes it so I can give a more focused response instead of posting the entire quote. Giving the same reaction, and then people easily misunderstanding what I'm reacting to. I mean to me that just seems like it would create less confusing and have been doing so on these forums for years. :/
In this case I was simply adding a small correction as shooting off the helmet is actually quite the unknown little fact.
You want a reaction on the rest?
My stance is simple. These units make a very specific 'boing' like sound with every pulse of their helmets. this sound cue is important as it warns you of this unit. Not once have I been surprised to suddenly see a scrambus as I KNOW its there.
Now it is up to the player to REACT to this. If you are in a tight spot get ready to dodge roll or take out your melee weapon (so you can block / channel block). both of these options have build in damage reduction that can easily save you in these situations. Not using those and blaming that on the unit that removed your defensive skill, is imo (sorry for the pun) unskillful play.
You didn't correct anything, or make anything clearer. Again, I specifically stated that whether you kill or neutralize the target, the premise remains the same : here the game offers no counterplay that doesn't strongarm players into situations where the one and only option is to expose yourself and shoot the damn thing while it and all its buddies do the same. Quote mining is a dangerous and disinginuous practice. You completely left out the part of my post that addressed your own before you even typed it. Why?
Whether the enemy emits a "boing" sound or not is irrelevant here. Partly because in the heat of battle the sheer sound overload tends to completely mute audio cues like this one, but more importantly because the issue is not about KNOWING that the enemy is here, but knowing it being there changes NOTHING to the situation, because the tile design has a tendency to leave the players with no other choice but to put themselves within the aura's AOE, and within enemy LoS and range. Now that doesn't mean that always happen of course, but when it does, player agency is removed. Our ability to make choices is reduced to not having any choice. That's the issue this type of mechanics represents. Challenge and difficulty don't matter here, because quite frankly in Warframe, they are non-existant (which is okay too), thus making any idea that "skill" will change the situation quite difficult to entertain. Knowledge of the mechanics does matter a lot more in my opinion. Unfortunately Warframe never challenged me, not my skill at least. These mechanics don't offer me that challenge. They don't make me think, or adapt my playstyle or approach of the situation. Or rather they only give me the same one, leaving me the same "choice" : expose yourself and shoot the thing because your other options are taken away from you entirely.
I think the problem here is that we're talking past one another. I talk about mechanics that offer no interesting counterplay and fail to challenge me, only removing my agency over my characters, environment and toolkit. You bring arguments that are irrelevant to me because they're not a part of the equation for me. They have no impact, no effect on the situation I'm talking about. "Git Gud" is not a thing in Warframe. It never was. Because it's a Power Fantasy that offers no effective challenge, no interesting or brain racking counterplay to the mechanics used to counter our Godlike powers. Because these mechanics remove the option to use these powers entirely, instead of altering them in interesting and challenging ways. That's pretty much all the devs have been doing so far, they remove tools from our toolkit because these tools are just so powerful they make the game trivial. That's lazy, that's a cop out. I completely understand that balancing a game like Warframe can be a nightmare. It tends to be with this type of game unfortunately. But removing player agency, taking away our fun and interesting toys instead of giving other interesting and fun toys to the enemy is, in my opinion, the worst way to go. And it's pretty much the devteam's MO since day one, although I do have to mention and applaud their recent tries to change that. Don't get me wrong, I have plenty of fun, and I get that not everyone wants challenge, I know I'm not really looking for it in Warframe. Again, I like the Power Fantasy DE has offered the playerbase so far. But removing gameplay options in the hope that players who enjoy a challenge will be satisfied seems really wrong to me, you know?
Frame Genders?
in General Discussion
Posted · Edited by Marthrym
I don't understand. I stated that it would be a ton of work, you're just repeating that... Why? I mean the devs themselves spoke about it, [DE]Rebecca stated that they didn't plan to do it in an interview. I was just reporting this information, nothing more. It wouldn't be me you'd be "ripping on", it'd be the devs lol.
Tennogen is community-made content. The devs just implement it into the market. It's not their doing. They are too busy to do that, that's the whole point behind the existence of the Tennogen program, allowing the community do add to the game without taking people and resources away from game development.
Creating the opposite gender of every frame of the ever expanding roster would be much more work than Tennogen, or a reskin of a pre-existing frame. There may be more to it than a "simple" skin, you know what I mean? I'm not saying it's not doable, or that I don't want it, I'm saying the devs already struggle enough as is with everything they have on their plate, I sincerely doubt they're even going to consider it, not in the foreseeable future at least, and I doubt they'd let it happen through Tennogen if it's more complex than a skin.
EDIT : There's also current lore to consider of course. Would it even make sense to do that? Especially if frames are supposed to evoke the memory of a specific, existing lore character?
