I've noticed recently that Arcane Avenger does not proc seemingly as expected via Combat Discipline + Overguard.
Arcane Avenger will activate when its user gets a kill that causes Combat Discipline to deal damage to Health, Shield, or Overshield.
Arcane Avenger will also activate when its user has an active Overguard (i.e. thousands from Dante) and takes damage from an enemy, hitting the overguard.
However, from what I have noticed, if a user has an overguard and gets an enemy kill with Combat Discipline on, the damage is still dealt to the overguard but does not activate Arcane Avenger.
