I mean even for warframes most builds are same mods, abilities arcanes and pets....

And if it wont be viral slash, it be back to corrosive heat,  or armorstrip toxin. Same thing.

Im using stug for fun, hirudo cause why not, quartak/convertrix depending on mood, pet is vizier predasite, and frame is grendel. But for me rest of frames aint much of a fun , not saying they bad, but grendel has something which doesnt make him boring to play... Even after nerfwork and being put on diet and removed scaling of dmg

Yeah, Grendel is the only frame I enjoy anymore, or at least I did til the DEwork. I can still play him very well, but the fun aspect is much reduced. His ball doesn't kill anyone. He can hardly eat anything. His damage was replaced with a support focus...and I mostly play solo.

    Which Warframe?

Creeping down hallways, dealing with stamina and actually having some mild challenge?

The days of virtually automatic, brainless area kill skills and standing around while things die?

    The Zoom and Boom era?

Literally any version after Grendel was released but before his "rework" would suit me.

I tried psyching myself up to play just now. Got my kuva rerolls in, slight upgrade for my Aegrit, tweaked up my cosmetics, and was on the launch menu to start my Archon Hunt.

Couldn't do it. He's not fun anymore, I have no hope he will ever be made fun again, and he was the only frame I played or cared to play because he's one of a kind. I guess complaining about it endlessly isn't really productive though. If they haven't deemed to make any changes by now then they probably aren't going to.

While I'm at it, I've also wanted permanent innertubes(Dog Day's Ephemera). I was pretty bummed they never happened, but I could be ok with it because it wasn't a thing I already had and enjoyed which was removed later. Grendel though, he was the frame I have been saving 3 umbra for literally years waiting on his prime. It never occured to me that the consumer of worlds and everything else was going on a diet. It's completely counter to his entire concept. This isn't about effectiveness for me, Grendel is a god now if you play him right.

I played him religiously when he was considered a joke. But apparently those of us who liked him as he was didn't factor into the decision making at all.

Going further, the true form of Grendel never even saw the light of day. He lost his size increasing effect for eating enemies before he was ever implemented. I was sad about that, since ya know, Grendel is literally a giant in Beowulf. Yet since I never had it, I got over it. He was still fun to play as he was.

TLDR there is zero replacement in game for Grendel's playstyle as it was, and I'm more or less spinning my wheels till something like he used to be is released.

    "We're gonna rework companions!"

"Yay, so you're finally going to look at Vacuum and Animal Instinct being mandatory on companions?"

    "... No."

Though maybe this is my chance to pester them into adding pet-centric Fetch back...

Maybe we can get Warframe Classic? I'm not entirely joking, a lot of the recent changes are killing my desire to play.

It's a 100% a buff. Grendel eating the entire map was something that required a fix.

Grendel was a "meh" frame that the effort to acquire exceeded what he brought to the table. Which is why his farm was essentially bypassed more often then not.

That problem was fixed when he received his rework.

    Now he's a powerhouse.

There are plenty of OP frames. But no replacement for old Grendel's aesthetic. He was unique. His core was as a CC/nuke frame. Now he is a support frame that deals next to no damage with his abilities compared to what he did.

But the real kicker is, any frame can slot nourish to replace him, and it's BETTER because you don't have to eat anything first to use it. Then they can provide fully empowered versions of their own buffs such as roar. What did he really gain anyway? I'm not seeing it. 10x viral was already on the mobs from your panzer. Healing? Same thing. Energy economy? You ran gourmand and it was infinite. Or at least I did.

We had Veilbreaker, which was a substantial balance pass. The starters got buffed. Grendel and Yareli got buffed. We got the augment balance pass. Duviri is coming with incarnon adaptors for old weapons (that's a buff). Saying DE isn't concerned with balance is willful ignorance. They get some balancing changes in where they can, but they keep occupying their time with overambitious projects like Duviri (or side projects that get shown on devstream only to be forgotten).

Grendel received the largest nerf to any Warframe's core ability in the history of this game. He was NOT buffed, he just got better in other areas, but it did not come close to replacing the ability to simply eat the entire map.

Increase the Feast cap. 5 enemies max is a joke.

Buffing Grendel at the cost of his enemies in gut is like "fixing" the Leaning Tower of Pisa by straightening it. You're removing his identity.

Truly I'd rather revert all of these changes. He was a flawed frame, but with proper modding and practice you could overcome those limitations. Now I'm just using cast speed to eat and kill the five enemies faster because it's still the best way to do any sort of actual damage with him.

Hydroid oozes into a puddle a stays there, after reading all the buffs and changes Grendel got. There to remain for another eternity.

Ironically Hydroid can still "eat" unlimited enemies and remove them all from play, while grendel, the gluttony frame, cannot.

I am confused. Based on the patch notes and Warframe wiki, should I not receive a Styanax? I got a bunch of other random stuff, but no Styanax.

Free Styanax is temporarily disabled, but will be making a return soon™

  8. So I was finally able to learn what Crimson Shards actually do

    Image

    +25% Melee Critical Damage.
    +25% Primary Status Chance.
    +25% Secondary Critical Chance.
    +10% Ability Strength.
    +10% Ability Duration.

Those ability stats are very lackluster. All 5 tauforged into ability strength won't even equal my Umbral Intensify. I was kinda hoping for efficiency or range on these, since these are the two stats most limited by currently available mods. But even the stats we did get aren't particularly strong. Yet blue shards could double my armor on Grendel? Or ludicrous casting speed(which I'm probably going for to turn his 3 into a machine gun).

  9. I totally support DE implementing such a system, though I'd never use it myself. It would allow them to enable the silly stuff year round while not bothering people that prefer not to see them. I would very much like the Dog Day's Ephemera year round since it's perfect for Grendel, IMO.

As to the concern it would get out of hand, FFXIV doesn't have these restrictions and santa hats and other costumes are very much in the minority anyway. Player self-expressions is important.

It's such a bizarre idea to frame people existing in the world as they choose to be as "others forcing you to see them".  Not gonna lie, it's got a disturbing ring to it.

Agreed. Though reading some of this thread does explain why my dog days ephemera isn't permanent(yet). I never expected people would find anything to be over the top in a game with space kids who body jack ancient orokin infected with a space plague and use reality-breaking void powers that come from another dimension. But, here we are.

I would prefer they just enable the skins and allow us to choose how we represent, but if this compromise is indeed necessary for that, I'd also hope for much sillier stuff to be added since anyone offended can turn it off.

  11. I noticed the developers seemed to be in a bit of a quandary as to a matter of scale. Specifically, how high to cap Grendel's size increase from eating enemies to avoid issues on some tilesets. A valid concern to be sure. I've noticed this on the titanic rumbler myself, having it get hung in a doorway.

I would suggest the best way to resolve this is via an augment. under my proposal, the default growth effect is fairly tame, but players who don't mind dealing with some annoyance could equip the augment to go bigger. This would be especially sensible to use on an open world map where height is much less of an issue.

Usually size issues are pretty divisive, so the best way to resolve them is leaving it to player choice. Default Grendel should be issue-free at full size, augment Grendel would require a bit of adjustment.

Just my thoughts on the matter, I played a pandaren in WoW for several years and was pretty much addicted to growth potions, so working around doors that are too small is a non-issue for me personally.
