  1. The curvature map is pretty similar to an AO map in how it's generated, it's just that the rays are cast much shorter, so it only darkens sharp crevices and highlights edges. You can use this map in a model painting program like Quixel or Substance Painter to help with procedurally generated actions, or you can use it as a layer for creating a final diffuse map for older methods of making textures.

Basically: it's not a final texture used on the final model, it's a baked map used in addition to other baked maps to create a final texture.

  2. Props for trying... I see how it can work on most frames with T-pose, but the real test will be with a rigged model. The head/neck has to move a lot, shoulders, arms raised for powers, dozens of stance idles, etc.

    Not to mention shoulder cosmetics.

Will it blend????? I hope so lol this is an attractive concept

  3. Quick tip: You're basically providing DE with a material set ONLY when you make a skin for the body, so basically just keep in mind that your textures will be added to a mesh that's already rigged and in the game. You can't alter the low poly that's in the game. When you make your own new high poly sculpt of the body for the skin, you will bake that onto the existing low poly.

Helmet is fine to go nuts with of course... you make your own lowpoly for that.

Every time one person reaches the end, the timer for extraction starts. But during that timer, if another person arrives at extraction, the timer disappears and the mission keeps going on forever.

    Seconding this bug.

Additionally: When I was hosting (I've already completed all objectives previously), the zeppelins spin in place and all the enemies spawn in a ring and circle until you get close to them. These don't happen when the person with the quest active hosts.

I had her play it solo and she was able to complete the quest this way. Whew!

  5. Not a bad start. A few things to keep in mind with infested in particular:

-Infested's asymmetry is pretty extreme, so if you want to push it into that territory you will have to also push the primary/secondary forms, not just tertiary (surface level) detail. You'll want to go back to using some very large brushes and push and pull some fleshy masses that break silhouette.

-Infested is supposed to be somewhat chaotic looking for sure, but it still follows the basic rules of flow and detail grouping, perhaps even moreso than other WF styles. You'll want to really emphasize a single unified flow of movement across the piece. Think about what each line says about that flow... does it truly add to it or does it complicate it without reason? You'll also want to group small focal point details together, and leave some areas open for the eye to rest. For example right now I see a lot of little dots of energy color but they don't cluster in areas that help tell a story of movement, they're just filling in shapes. Deep see creatures might help you here with the way their bioluminescence is composed.

Hope that helps! Keep up the good work!

What if they used this character design when the finally get around to reworking "The Sergeant"? Or perhaps a Corpus version of Clem?

I think he's more of the standalone boss type. Snaky and vicious; the type who likes to play mind games. Could probably work for The Sergeant rework yeah.

    1. Scorpius as a corpus boss.

    3. ???
    4. Wormholes lead Sentients back to Origin system.

    On an exterminate mission:
"Kill them all, Tenno! Then we can have pizza and margarita shooters!!"
Sabotage mission, after extracting a coolant rod:
    "INSERT THE ROD, TENNO"
    Escape mission:
He's leaning up against your restraining table and playing "Home on the Range" on a Corpus version of a harmonica.

I think you should make him look a little bit grineer, to match the theme of warframe better, as scorpy is part scarren.  or you could make him partly infested.

    Just an idea

Yeah my original idea was that he has some Tubeman DNA infused within him, and he has to have regular DNA stabilizer injections to keep himself from rapidly aging (there are holes on the back of his head near the backpack where either rods would be inserted or tubes would come up from the backpack to connect there). You know... Corpus have anti-aging stuff but Grineer DNA breaks down, so they'd fight each other.

DE could actually use this. he'd make a good human bursa or something :D

Lol, how would you "hack" him? Brainhax???!?!

Never seen Farscape, but I just did a image search of Scorpius and was horrified you seem to have really captured his character well. A really intriguing mashup between him and Alad V!

Excellent work. Even with your 3-D art, I'm always amazed at your strength for portraying such vivid facial expressions.

I'm amazed, too... so amazed that if I see this dude in any of my future missions, close proximity or not, I'm shooting him with my Kulstar, I swear.

Ahaha, thank you! Watch Farscape Scorpius is a pretty damn good villain, even though his outfit is odd... it grows on you. Or it did on me.

Thanks so much! Faces are my guilty pleasure for sculpting haha

Looks like a buffed up Alad V. About time he hit the gym.

That is Alad when Valkyr, on instagram, threatened to track his IP address and kill him.

Hm, need to revisit that... Was hard to find a balance between Scorpius' all-black-totally-intimidating-plus-straps look and the goofy Space Clowns that are the Corpus bosses. Not goofy enough :D

Ooh how I enjoyed Farscape and the lovable badguy Scorpius! I hoped forever that they would explore the universe more, but like all sci-fi shows it died too soon.

In fact I now realize that Warframe reminded me of Farscape when I first saw att it. That's what drew me in, that same weirdness that you find.in Dune.

Great work, and really a clear visual concept after so short amount of time.

Yeah too soon, too soon... Maybe someday they'll revisit it all. One can always hope. I thought the writing was extremely witty, especially in the later seasons. Don't get much of that weird style and blatent risk-taking anymore. Warframe's weirdness was a big part of what drew me in, too, and why I love the boss characters so much :)

Forever working to be faster... it's a neverending challenge. I watched the Zbrush Summit Sculpt-Off over the weekend and I'm just blown away over what people can create in just 3 hours, maybe I'll be that fast too someday! This piece took me about 8 hours.

    Thanks so much you guys!

A little extra thought about this guy: He's obsessed with the neural link, which he only has trace evidence of and doesn't fully understand. Like Scorpius, he's got a device that lets him into minds, and he needs to find the secret to the link so he can use it for himself. However, the Warframe mind and the Tenno mind are two different things... interpret that as you will.

  8. I really like Scorpius and I just finished watching Farscape and The Peacekeeper Wars (Farscape 2 when???) and Kwani told me I should make a Scorpius-based character

So I spent today sketching out a concept in Zbrush. Hope you guys like it lol

Besides the super obvious gathering of Tenno in one area before and after any of their attended/planned conventions, I have never met another player out of random.

    Though, I guess I can share something relevant;

After TennoCon, I went to the Fox Fiddle to find 90% of the people eating there attended the convention. I recognized some, @Syncrasis in particular, but never said hi. Soon after I ordered, the waiter told me that the entire Warframe staff was eating in the lower area. About 10 minutes later, Rob from AGGP walks through the door with his group. I just found it funny that such a myriad of players flocked to this specific restaurant on a corner, but it wasn't too surprising (1000+ people with a common interest in a relatively small downtown area).

Aww gosh dude, we need to hang out!! Aren't we both in Michigan?

Other than TennoCon, I have never met another Warframe player on the street. I always wear a void key necklace and often I wear one of my Warframe t-shirts in hopes of running into someone lol. I'm really excited about Warframe all the time so I tend to get a little rambly about all the cool things. Yeah I'm one of those.....

I'm thinking about making the membranes of the wings transparent like Sari V1... Might look terrible cause it has thickness though

It is looking a bit wide, but it'll be in multiple parts so I have room to move stuff around if need be. Here's how it looks like on Mag:

Ahh ok, I was imagining it as much larger. That size does look good!

  11. Pick out some large areas you can push out thicker like the others suggested. Do large areas, not just details, it will help break up the flatness a ton, IE: make some parts of the pattern look like it's an entire extra layer on top of the other parts, or add thicker bracket-like border pieces. Also remember to use the actual side edges to your advantage, you can carve lines up them to make it look layered. Maybe take a look at the Ki'Teer syandana, it has some of these features esp. the side/edge detail.

I've noticed in a lot of Warframe-style tech elements, the artists tend to like to alternate between carving a line in and also pulling it out by sort of tapping the alt key occasionally. Might want to try some of that on the metal part on top with the tool you're using to make your panel lines.

Also add polypaint as soon as you can, can't stress how much it helps to have the colors blocked out, helps in reading the flow a ton.

Sorry for all the crit, I hope something in there helps.

Lovely shape, I think this is gonna turn out great!

  12. This is friggin wicked. I love the main horns and how there is a subtle set of extra horns further back, and the swirly-smokey surface treatment elsewhere really suits Ash. I also love how you tend to stay on the more organic side of the bio-mecha stuff, and your dense-vs-sparse design sense. Really refreshing work!

  13. I think that rail feels a little unnatural for Grineer... was expecting to see more bulbous, organic-Grineer-style "flap" shapes. I also expected something really long and exaggerated, would probs be a legit enough reason to avoid it though, dunno what your intentions are for the forms in this piece (besides it being Grineer of course). Hopefully there is something useful in there... Maybe a good time to do some paintovers and/or sketches?

Big fan of your work, always a joy watching your threads!
