  1. In 2013, I saw a bunch of thumbnails for ads for Warframe, but never watched any and avoided the game because I generally didn't trust the prospect of free to play. Later on, a group I was apart of at the time recommended the game to me, so I figured I could try it out because it was free, and if it wasn't good, I'd just back out of it. So, I gave it a shot the day after Christmas. Well, turns out it was the exact sort of game I had been waiting for at the time, as I had really enjoyed concepts like Left 4 Dead and Alien Swarm, ie kitting out for a mission beforehand in a team of four, but I didn't like how limited Alien Swarm was, in its balance for coop and few missions to complete, but Warframe was still fun to play solo, and because the missions generated on procedural tilesets and there was more than 1 enemy faction, it had a way to present more variety for generally less work on the devs' part. Even though it's the same rooms on a given tileset, just the simple layout, enemy, and objective changes, coupled with variety of player loadout, helped keep things from getting too monotonous. (especially back when missions had more happenstance, like Battle Damage/Coolant Leaks, and mid-mission objective & faction changes.) As well, its 'living world' mechanics, like Alerts, Invasions, and Events, coupled with in-mission transmissions from Lotus and the Bosses of the enemy factions, all culminated in a very immersive experience, even without a proper plot at the time. (I'd even argue, the Quests ended up hurting my sense of immersion to the game, especially as they increasingly focused on the Operator) And all of it was wrapped up in this exceptionally cool biocyberpunk post-apoc sci-fi setting with a truly unique art style and presentation. All of that compelled me to continue playing. Unfortunately, the game's direction now doesn't compel me, as it has become increasingly distracted with things that don't build on that initial experience and otherwise undermine the identity the game used to have, so I only sparsely return to keep informed and play the old things I still enjoy.
  2. Oh there's so many things. Mission Selection Dioramas; added a lot of personality to the game seeing your squad posed doing the objective with epic music. Old Music ; appreciated its simplicity and emphasis on more introspective & liminal emotions. And I like the old rank-up music a lot better Most of the old sound design, particularly some vocals (Crewmen, Moas, Corrupted), Weapons (Moa's Gun, Braton, etc), old Warframe Ability sounds, etc. Some of the old HUD effects & designs. Old Corpus Ship Tileset; the Jupiter Rework was pretty good, there's only a few tiles I miss (especially the old starting tiles), but most of the new Corpus Ship Tileset just feels too different. And the new Defense Tile sucks by comparison to its predecessor. (Though the new one is better for Interception) The Old-Old Rescue Brig & Sabotage Reactor Tiles on Corpus & Grineer Ships, from before the reworks. Elevators, to an extent; I liked the verticality, but waiting sucked. Might've been a better compromise to have alternate ways to get around alongside the elevator tiles. Old Jackal Boss, to an extent; I like the new mechanics, but the recolor was unnecessary and the arena is too well lit and less foreboding. Darker Environment Lighting & Tone. Looking back on old footage, you also see missions randomized with these color filters that they don't do anymore. It'd be nice to see a return, if toned back a bit to be less saturated, just for visual variety. Infestation Outbreaks affecting the lighting on Tilesets Cryogenic Leak or Battle Damaged mission modifiers for Ship Tilesets. (happens in Sabotage missions now, but they used to just be a thing a mission spawned with) Mid-Mission Faction Ambushes ; kind of like 'ignore your original objective' stuff, sometimes a different faction would take over the rest of a mission. It'd be cool to see more of this, like getting caught mid-mission in some inter-faction fighting (ie one Faction raiding another's Ship, or possibly catching a deal going down between the Corpus & Grineer) Some missing or changed Tiles from older Tilesets, like the River on the Earth Tileset (was used a lot for Scarlet Spear, haven't seen it since), the Mutalist Incursion battle damage to the Corpus Outpost Tileset, the Corpus Ship Portal Hanger leading to an Infested Ship during Infestation Outbreaks, and that Orokin Tower tile with the platforms and pool below you'd find the Capture Target in. Some of the Events I was around for, like 'Ties that Bind' and Alad V's whole Mutalist Arc (especially Suspicious Shipments & Tubemen of Regor). Tower & Derelict Keys; making it a limited opportunity to visit these mysterious Orokin places helped sell the mystique. Grineer Bosses speaking in their own language instead of English. Was always hoping Corpus Bosses would've been changed to also speak their own language Pre-Second Dream Stalker. Wall Running & Vaulting; the new physics are superior, but the old animations are superior. Aesthetics of Melee Channeling Original Main Menu & Starchart; I understand the practical of why it is on the ship now, but absolutely miss that old screen: its calm-before-the-storm music, tranquil vibe, and elegant minimalism. Community & Friend Circle In-Jokes about the game based on a lot of cut features and mechanics There's probably so many more things too, but that's an extensive enough list. Sucks it all only lives in memory now...
  3. DE's own promotional site isn't true to their intentions? Plus, you're really just dancing around calling it what it really is; What is it called when multiple factions act together against a common, greater foe? Maybe Cooperating? Joining Forces? Teaming up? Working together? Coordinating? Those quotes are pretty intentional though, they framed it pretty vividly. I genuinely don't understand how any of you arguing have come to a different conclusion? Um, maybe if we didn't also have the on screen visual context of Teshin saying that specifically to Sentient Ships turning on Corpus & Grineer Ships and focusing fire on them instead of the Railjack? Again, the framing and context of the situation are pretty concise as to what DE intended. (Also, don't think I didn't miss that Strawman about 'off-screen' being truth; I didn't make that argument, I'm saying it is a problem that it happened off screen, but it is a given it happened from the context of scenes after the fact.)
  4. I had to research what kind of fallacy this was you just demonstrated, because for a minute there I thought you'd invented it. But I think it just counts as ad Lapidem? Either way, if you're just gonna resort to bad faith arguing and fallacy, I don't really have much more to say to you.
  5. DE's own promotional site says: "Unite opposing forces and test your mettle against the full mustered force of the Sentients..." <Unite Corpus & Grineer Literally the first thing Teshin says in New War, during the first Railjack section: "The Enemy's Eye turns upon our Allies" -Context being the Murex attacking the Corpus & Grineer Ships. Also, Erra says this: "How tediously human. A Slapdash alliance making a feeble last stand," This was a coordinated attack by the Corpus, Grineer, and Tenno. The negotiations for which happened off-screen as I said.
  6. Um, doing field work is like the Tenno's whole modus operandi? Plus, that's kind of what the gameplay is? As well, it actually would make more narrative sense for the Tenno to have gone after the Sentient Army first instead of immediately going after Ballas, Erra, & Natah, because first of all, how did the Tenno even find them so quickly? And second, how did the Tenno manage to get the Grineer & Corpus to work together on this front in the first place? Wouldn't it have made sense to go relieve pressure off the Grineer & Corpus forces to both negotiate with them to aid the Tenno, and muster more forces for the surgical attack to take out its source? With that process also explaining how they found out where that source was to begin with? But no, we glossed over all of that, relegating it to off-screen assumption... in a video game that's more generally about actually doing that kind of action, because that's where the gameplay comes in. This is why players are taking issue with the quest, it's really not that hard to understand. They wanted to play this part. Also, what did DE's own site say again? Oh, right, it said: - "Fight on the frontlines in every corner of the Origin System..." - "Unite opposing forces and test your mettle against the full mustered force of the Sentients..." Sounds like grunt work to me?
  7. The whole spellbook thing could've passed as a Warframe Exalted Weapon, like for a literal wizard/mage type of Warframe, but on its own, it is injecting too much High Fantasy into Warframe. I know there are some here arguing that Warframe was always leaning into High Fantasy, but, having been playing the game for 3-days over 10 years as of this post, I think I can firmly say that, no it hasn't. It maybe started in War Within or Chains of Harrow, sprinkled throughout Prelude to New War (like Lavos's lore), but has just really gone off the deep-end since New War itself. Prior, The only literal High Fantasy element were the Tenno themselves, given what makes them unique is void powers and that they lean into more primitive-style weapons, like bows and melee, but the other Factions and the rest of the setting viewed them as mystical oddities because of it. Now we have lore about literal alchemy and magic rituals performed by the Orokin, whatever the heck an Oro is, a spellbook, fairytale-esque nonsense like talking animals and misplaced romance, and an increased emphasis on the Void, trying to overexplain it as some kind of diet version of the Warp & Chaos from Warhammer 40k. Overall, it's just turning Warframe into a mess of ideas that don't coalesce together, and is capitulating on a prior established style. Definitely missing the days when it was more like... Bio-Cyberpunk Mecha Anime with a spot of Dune or Hyperion.
  8. Their argument is just disingenuous or ignorant. Like, I'm pretty sure Little Duck outright claimed that Scarlet Spear was just the Sentients poking us with a stick to see what would happen, which they then followed up with a test countermeasure (ie Orphix Venom). Neither constitutes the substance of the war. Otherwise, everything leading up to New War was categorized as the 'Prelude to New War', implying the War Proper hadn't even started yet, again killing the notion that Scarlet Spear and Orphix Venom were supposed to be the war itself. Heck, you can still go onto DE's own promotional site for New War and get these neat quotes: - "Fight on the frontlines in every corner of the Origin System..." - "Unite opposing forces and test your mettle against the full mustered force of the Sentients..." <heavily implying DE didn't consider those events the main course. - "...get ready to wield limitless power to look and play the way you want in this all-out war," Between these, some other quotes on that site, the framing of the New War trailer itself with Lotus, etc, it's pretty clear DE were advertising a full on war, and the person you're arguing against is trying to gaslight you (and others) into believing you made it up, but DE blatantly advertised and alluded to it. (And I'm responding to you and not them because I don't play chess with pigeons, I'm just here to provide context and evidence to the contrary of their position) Also, just to get ahead of the remaining argument they'd be able to make, it doesn't matter if the New War was just supposed to be a 'Red Herring' for Ballas's Narmer stuff, it was hyped up too much to the point there still needed to be an actual demonstration of the War with the Sentients. Like, I don't think most players are actually against the twist, just distraught that it happened before even getting the war with the Sentients, the faction that had basically been teased since Warframe had lore. (And yes it was within DE's technical power to make such a war, they've already done a system-wide invasion event called the 'Mutalist Incursions', so it wasn't a matter of technical limitations, at the very least not major ones.) So yeah, no, you're right, the person you're dealing with just isn't arguing in good faith.
  9. Some really odd decisions with this rework. The general focus on corrosive seems bizarre. Like, dude's a water pirate, wouldn't impact or slash be more fitting damage types? Like, maybe corrosive as apart of his augments, but his main thing? Bizarre. Majorly disappointed to see that Tempest Barrage is staying, when there's not much that mechanically separates it from Tentacle Swarm. (ie, a targeted, radial, crowd control over time thing) And Undertow is going? Seriously? And Tempest Barrage is staying? I actually used Undertow for something, usually to hide to let shields recharge or vaguely sneak around, especially to scope out Spy missions. Why not make what it already is more ergonomic? - Instead of dragging multiple enemies under, just suck in one at a time for a finisher-type attack? - Allow holding Sprint to move the puddle significantly faster, but also drains energy faster - Using Tidal Surge while in Undertow could cause a whirlpool that drags all nearby enemies in, also inflicting significant slash damage & status? - Using Tentacle Swarm while in Undertow could drag multiple enemies under, and cause finisher attacks on them one by one? - Could tie it more into a restorative state? Faster Shield Recharge while in it or something? Status Clearing? - Let it sneak under laser gates? Seriously, if anything Tempest Barrage is what deserves to be replaced.
  10. Okay, what is the purpose of a trailer/teaser? To set expectations, right? In the hopes those expectations will generate hype? The whole point of these things is to give a small glimpse into what they're gonna do, and the fact therein is if someone doesn't like what a trailer/teaser implies (because yes, they are outright implying things to come), they are totally justified in that and reasonable to criticize it and what it represents. Or, In other words, it is completely reasonable for one to use their discernment to judge a potential update on the basis of the expectation-setting medium its creator puts out. (because that's literally what teasers and trailers are for) Warframe 1999 also doesn't exist in a vacuum, because it's being made by certain people who have certain prior reputations based on a blatant pattern of behavior, ie DE and creating one-off major updates that rarely build on what already was in the game, which also heavily factors into possible discernment against it.
  11. I'm gonna note first that several of your responses have a common theme of not actually reading what I said, and rather drawing an assumption early seemingly based upon a keyword you either fixated on or did not read. I'm not trying to be rude in this regard, just, asking that you read what I say more carefully, please. First, you'll note, I said 'Primary' presence, as in, they are the main faction on a node. On Lua, it's mostly Crossfire of Grineer and Corpus, but Sentients show up as an ancillary opposition force, so Lua doesn't count by the criteria I stated. Second, yes, Railjack is a content island. It relies upon a game design structure inconsistent with that of the main game, and relies upon equipment that does not apply to the mainline game. (ie, the Railjack itself, its relevant equipment, intrinsics, and Archwing) It's a content island, do not presume to tell me otherwise. "Anecdotally, some players complain that the particular interpretation of Bosses in Archon Hunts are too difficult, therefore we shouldn't rework the Bosses as they appear elsewhere in the game," That's not really a good argument, that's an excuse just to oppose what I'm saying. I believe you saw 'Sanctuary Onslaught' and immediately jumped to an irrelevant conclusion. First, when I said 'Sanctuary Onslaught', it's implied I meant the gamemode in its entirety, including ESO. I'll go back and specify, because apparently I left too much wiggle room to assume otherwise. Second, at no point in there did I argue for reworking Sanctuary Onslaught, I said 'Include the Variants and Factions that currently aren't in it, like the new Corpus enemies and Sentients'. This is hearsay, because I have seen no such sentiment. Personally, I saw people specifically respond negatively (or conflictedly) to New War, not Quests in their entirety. Most of the sentiment I've seen is people like Quests, because they provide narrative context and impetus to playing the game, but arguably DE's execution of Quests does leave much to be desired. New Sectors/Worlds would not mean more content islands, it means more content for the mainline game. These would not be entirely new gameplay systems. Also, there is literally no way to tie Railjack more to the mainline game without destroying them both. They are fundamentally incompatible, and they are already about as tied together as they will ever get, especially when you consider the negative sentiment some made about Railjack just becoming a 'taxi' to play the normal missions. (Though, in fairness, I don't know how majorative that opinion is, I just remember seeing it crop up a lot after the Railjack Corpus missions dropped.) Recall, at the end of the first section, I already mentioned 'balance issues', implying I want that addressed as well, and it's in the first section as a higher priority. Wanting Player vs Enemy Balance addressed and wanting more Enemy Variety are not contradictory goals. Again, you read 'Alert' and assumed too soon. Reread what I said again, because I'm not proposing the Alert System return, only Alert Missions. Well, I think putting the mainline game on the backburner, in favor of tacked-on side game, so-called 'Content Islands', is primarily what has been slowly killing the game, which honestly, because they have to develop entirely new sets of game systems and mechanics to accommodate them, they have been the biggest offenders of being massive updates that we have to wait long periods of time for, so I do kind of agree there. For context, Jovian Concord is basically the template for my ideal update, but smaller updates that do similar things to Jovian Concord in piece meal scale are okay as well. (like, Deadlock Protocol was fine, I just find the Granum Void stuff to be far too repetitive, dull, and how much time you have to commit into it in a single mission makes me not want to do it, because I can't just stop by and do it, especially in a pub, like you can the Amalgam Labs on Jupiter.)
  12. I'd rather DE curtail any and all content islands for the foreseeable future, as the main game, the actual Warframe game, is still incomplete, and is frankly all I come to this game to play and invest in. For Example: Not all Sectors / Worlds have their own unique Tilesets, especially in cases where a Unique Tileset would make sense (notably Phobos, Saturn, Neptune, Pluto, and Sedna) The Sentients (and Narmer) do not yet have a primary starchart presence, with standard mission structure. (Railjack is a content island, so Veil Anomalies don't count) The Remaining Corpus Mountain Outpost and Frozen Ship Graveyard tilesets still have yet to be updated, ala Jovian Concord (Jupiter) and Deadlock Protocol (Ships). There are still Placeholder Bosses that need Updating (Sergeant/Nef Anyo and Phorid), and several Bosses in general could do with updating like they did with Jackal. Sanctuary Onslaught (and ESO) could be updated to include new Force Variants (Vapos & Juno Corpus) and new Factions. (Sentients) Alad V's narrative arc is an absolute Cluster-F as it currently stands, as certain plot details not only are absent entirely from the game (because they were Events) but happen out of Chronological Order (ie, you encounter him in Second Dream, indebted to you for curing him, but you encounter him infested in Patient Zero after the fact) In general, there is no shortage of balance issues and design decisions that could be ironed out and addressed. And optionally: More Quests to fill the gap and adventure line from the start of the game to Second Dream, like a Quest to introduce and gate access to the Void and mechanics related to it. They could also convert old Events into Quests, which could especially be used to fix Alad V's nonsensical arc. (ie, making Hunt for Alad V and Suspicious Shipments into Quests or something) Create additional Sectors / Worlds, like if the Asteroid or Kuiper Belts were Sectors with entirely randomly generated node layouts every day/week, more large moons to branch off from the mainline path such as Ganymede or Titan, or other outer dwarves like Makemake and Haumea. Can always improve enemy Variety, such as more reskin forces ala Arid Grineer or Vapos Corpus, those are neat as long as they introduce some new mechanics or combinations on older unit classes, or new enemy Variants, like how the Grineer Marine has Lancers, Troopers, Seekers, etc, but for Classes that don't yet have many varieties, like Infested Chargers or Sentient Fighters, or even entirely new Classes, like it'd be cool to see new Amalgam-type Units to go along with Narmer's 'Unification' premise or to have some unique Orokin Units to accompany the Corrupted, like Dax Specters or Orokin Robots. More Corrupted types, like some more Infested Units, would work as well. Reintroduce Alerts as sort of 'Happenstance Missions', personal to a player who encounters them (or possibly occasionally for more, like perhaps being clan-wide or game-wide) that are created on the Starchart when a player encounters something, like if characters could randomly generate in the social spaces you could talk to that would activate these alerts (ie, "My Brother was captured by the Grineer, please help him" or "I saw the Corpus salvage up some old Orokin Tech you might want to procure" sort of stuff), or likewise they could be a 'reward' generated when completing more information based Missions, like Capture, Rescue, Spy, and Interception. Could even occur from simply opening a locker, and a datamass could fall out, which taking to extraction would lead you on some wild goose chase. I'd personally rather have major updates that'd cover any of these, than endure anymore Plains of Orb Drift or Rail-Taxi reworks, or dealing in game modes that have nothing to do with the mainline game like Kahl (of Duty) or Duviri. Anything else can happily go on the backburner for all I care.
  13. Oh, there was no 'First Half' phase of an Orokin Tower Mission. What you're probably referring to is the old method to get Prime Parts. Before Relics, there were Keys, and Keys were the way you accessed Orokin Tower Missions instead, and completing those would reward Prime Parts based upon what Tier of Key you used, being consumed in the process. They subsequently replaced them with the Relic & Void Fissure system, and now Orokin Tower Missions are on the star chart and drop Relics. Admittedly though, a first part of the mission where you go from another Tileset through a portal to an Orokin Tower, would be much cooler and add some nice context/immersion. (And is definitely technically possible, due to the way Gate Crash Sabotage works) Otherwise, as for a proper introduction for the Void and Corrupted, These are some of my scattered notes: First Quest They need to make a Quest that narratively introduces the Void. They could take the 'spirit' of the long lost Arid Fear Event, and convert it into this Quest. The event was originally about the Tenno tracking down and capturing Corpus Informants who were hiding in the Void, because they had coordinate data on the Grineer Bases on Mars. With some tweaking, however, this could be changed to suit a Void intro story. (like, if the 'Informants' were carrying Relics or Janus Keys to deliver to Nef Anyo, and were skipping through the void to fly dark, to attempt to prevent interception by the Grineer, but only attracting the Tenno in the process.) This Quest would also pull double duty in functioning as an Adventure Line to guide the players after completing the intro quests to continue on, as it could be made a prerequisite to fight the Specter on the Mars Junction. Could introduce the Corrupted here as well, as whatever Orokin Void Artifacts the Corpus Informants are carrying might act up and start Corrupting the Crew. After encountering them, the Lotus could explain them between Missions. (ie, a Neural Sentry reached through the artifacts, and took control of nearby creatures to protect the artifacts for their Orokin masters.) Second Quest Next, they should make a second Quest, obtained from completing the Phobos Junction, that is retroactively made a prerequisite to access all Void content, including the Orokin Towers, Fissures, and the Relic Module, including Relic Refinement capability. Would start off with Nef Anyo and the Corpus as antagonists, but transition into involving Captain Vor, revived and corrupted by his Janus Key, so the Quest could provide context to how he ends up in the Void to be encountered in later Orokin Tower Missions. This Quest would focus on tutorializing Relics (obtaining, reward structure, traces and refinement), and would unlock the different tiers of Relic Refinement throughout. First Mission would be Following the Corpus into an Orokin Tower to take a cache of Relics. In the intermission afterward, Lotus could explain more about the Orokin Towers and Relics. Next, Going through a trio of missions where you refine and take Relics of different refinement to designated Fissures for the Quest, (Vor being the cause for each Fissure) Additionally, an explanation in here about how Fissures crack open Relics, and how Fissures are being caused, would be appreciated. Final Mission would be a Bossfight with Vor on Ceres, until he escapes into the Void through a Fissure. (Cinematic from the Rebirth Trailer, depicting Vor using his Janus Key to open a Void Fissure, surrounded by a crowd of kneeling Grineer, would play when you arrive to the Bossfight) Or something to that effect anyway. Either way, hopefully DE will add a Quest or something eventually to provide an introduction and context to the Void and Corrupted.
