  1. They're purposely ignoring the elephant in the room on the livestream.

    Doom.

Yeah, they pretty much have to not say anything or risk getting sued. Notice how there is no mention of perfect world in the title of this thread or the response given, just "shares"? And for the brief moment they mentioned it on the live-stream, they just said "questions about business should be directed to the forum thread.

They've got a legal restraint on them to not say anything; not even the name "perfect world". Don't expect to hear anything until the deal is finalized and PW gives them the go ahead to announce it. And, by then, it will be too late to do anything.

  2. I really think this topic deserves acknowledgment in the general discussion forums. People keep making threads there that just get locked and/or moved because they're unaware of this thread.

Seems like a topic that warrants so much discussion should at least be acknowledged in the general discussion forums, instead of being hid away here in the "warframe news" forum.

  3. http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?200211-This-game-is-ruined-by-its-cash-shop-and-price-model-very-disappointing

This is a thread from another forum containing a small insight into the future of Warframe

I'm getting a "Service Unavailable - Zero Sized Object" error when I open that. I think just reading the link itself suffices, though.

(I imagine it was deleted, as PW has a record of simply deleting any criticism of their business practices.)

EDIT: I was wrong, it appears the entire http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com forum is currently down.

  4. I'm glad we have a response, but I think the take home message in this case is that, yes, DE and PW are in negotiations.

Honestly, I think the developers already know this isn't good news for us or for them, but are legally obligated to not say anything that could potentially damage the deal. I'm sure that if they could, there would be more than a few that would be right along side us expressing their displeasure. Hek, I wouldn't even be surprised to discover that they had not even heard of this whole mess from the upper-brass before we did.

Personally, I believe that PW owning even 1% of DE is a very bad thing. I'm not saying that everyone has to believe this, but I've dealt enough with PW before to know I don't want to have anything to do with them.

As a non-binding agreement has already been made between the two parties (i.e., DE management is already happy with this mess) and PW is currently "investigating" DE, there are only a few outcomes that can occur:

    (1) PW decides not to invest. Life continues as normal. Hopefully management learns not to court any more offers without investigating the potential community backlash first.

    (2) PW decides to invest, but all outstanding shares purchased by PW does not end up constituting a controlling portion of DE. Despite the possibility of them not having more than 50% of the shares, I will still not be happy with this outcome (some may be, though, and that's okay; different strokes). The only possible positive course of action would be an absolutely clear, legally binding "on paper" guarantee that PW only is interested in publishing DE games in China, and will have nothing to do with the releases outside of China. All primary development of WF by DE will continue as normal, and PW will only make their changes to builds that are already finished and pushed out to DE's non-Chinese customers. I feel for my Chinese brethren, though, as I've already seen a number of them (mainland and otherwise) expressing their concern. So, potential acceptable for us outside of China, but still bad for the Chinese players of WF.

    (3) PW decides to invest, and the number of outstanding shares purchased gives PW a controlling stake in DE. This is the worst case, abandon-hope-all-ye-who-enter scenario. I'm doing my best to not be being hyperbolic, but there is very little chance that anything good will come of PW acquiring DE. Just ask Cryptic or Zombie: despite all the developers' best "intents" to retain creative control of their game, PW makes sure that the studios they purchase focus their development primarily on what PW is known for: lock boxes, item decay, new purchasable cosmetics over actual content, long delays between updates/fixes/patches, and terrible customer service.

  5. Could we have a sticky here on General Discussion that links directly to DE_Steve's post?

Most people come straight to the GD forum without even seeing the post in "Warframe News," which seems to be leading to lots of needless community member posts that have to be locked and redirected.

As this is a topic that warrants a fair amount of discussion, I feel that it should be visible--if even only through a stickied link--on the general discussion forum.

    Thanks =)

  6. Op is smart: Since we don't have a contest to bring hype and tenstion. The OP created this, troll.

U14 didn't have the hype of U13 until now. ^_^

    NOW, THE HYPE IS REAL!

U14 will reveal whether this is real or false.

U14 hype has no gotten truely real.

I think this is the third or fourth post of yours that has called me a troll.

I enjoy warframe. I might not play it a lot, but the time I do spend in it I find immensely enjoyable.

I did not create this thread to try to trick anyone, or cause "hype" for U14.

I do not like forums, so I rarely (i.e. hardly ever) use them. I do not like the personal attacks that occur once people start to become defensive. However, due to my concern about this issue, I decided to make this post to raise awareness of this very real acquisition-in-progress. It is my hope that something may be done to prevent this acquisition from happening.

I'm unsure why you're struggling so hard to deny and denigrate this, but, I can assure you, this is not a troll post and I am not a troll.

  7. exactly.

I still don't trust these websites that claim this. I'll wait for an official response from DE.

    Sources please?

What are we even talking about here again?

I still don't trust these websites that claim this. I'll wait for an official response from DE.

What a load. I'll believe it when I see it.

Regardless, even if it did happen, which I doubt, it wouldn't be as bad as you lot think it would be.

Give it a damn chance. It hasn't even happened. We don't even know for sure if it will happen.

When DE confirms that this is/isn't happening, THEN you can start complaining/rejoicing.

OP saids that Warframe will be acquired by outside corporations, how ever he/she has no sources, so they can not prove this claim.

I wouldn't count on them making a response immediately. With the outcry that is happening, I'm sure there's going to have to be many meetings on just how to word their response. The good news is that it hasn't 100% gone through, but the process has certainly begun.

  8. All of the "sources" are website I don't trust and have iffy credibility. Also they probably see the monster thread developing and are in a meeting now talking about it either to:

A (and most likely) Figure out who posted it since it not true or

B preparing to give the bad news.

aastocks is a legitimate news website for Hong Kong's stock market (http://www.aastocks.com/en/default.aspx).

They've also reported on the acquisition: http://www.aastocks.com/en/News/HK6/61/NOW.612668.html

As the company is Chinese, you're probably only going to see news about it in Chinese news sources.

As someone who played STO both before and after PW purchased Cryptic, I feel I have to voice my concern over this acquisition. Warframe is a game with a huge amount of potential, and having PW pulling their strings behind the scenes is a surefire way to destroy that potential.

I'm not sure that there's anything you (DE) could do at this point, but I would applaud any efforts made to stop this from happening. Even self-sabotoge to make the company seem less desirable is not out of the question.

(For those of you who aren't familiar with PW, acquisition by them will dramatically shift development away from new gameplay content. Instead, expect development to focus on a plethora of obnoxious, obtrusive lockbox and other lottery-type systems)
