I wouldn't mind a mixture of the 'spotlight' vs. 'dark fog' idea with being able to just tap to capture light/dark levels from one spot, tap again to release and enforce those levels on another spot, and hold to obtain the buff. (Or even better, make it like Wisp's Reservoirs and have it grant the buff continuously once placed, with Hold instead relocating the source for Mirage.) As people have pointed out, that gels really nicely with her theme, gives players control and engagement, without losing some of the flavor of needing light/dark sources. It takes the unreliability out and gives an interesting tradeoff to setup for, as well as having a stationary source of the buff that won't complicate the balance for Helminth; you could just have the Helminth version require the additional Hold interaction to obtain the buff, and strip the relocating nature of the source and leave that for Mirage exclusively; that seems like a fair cost in QoL for reliable access to Eclipse buffs. How viable this is seen by players may have a lot to do with energy cost though, there's a few different ways to swing that. I personally wouldn't like too heavy an investment made in 'moving' a source once placed, but am fine with having a bump in energy investment for capturing light levels. I also think that giving her something so alike to Wisp's reservoirs doesn't detract from Mirage's overall identity, given Sleight of Hand and her clones are very unique as they are, and the presentation would be unique (and maybe even a bit more extra) than Wisp's.
