  1. Has anyone ever done math or logic in school who posts such a topic???

Maximum Power Strength pre U17 was ~270%, which to the suprise of many players increased the loot drop chance to 5x times on an Hydroid using Pilferring Swarm. Basically an INSANE AMOUNT.

This probably slipped in the game unitentonally and was tolerated, since DE is aware of the major grinding that their game requires and they saw it as an bandaid solution for the time being, untill they could tackle some of the undelying issues that they ahve with reward distribution.

Now U17 hits and with it.... Equinox!

Equinox, for the first time, has an ability that does not increase the damage for it´s allies but directly their power strength. Some among you might notice where this is going. ;)

A Equinox modded for maximum power strength applys a buff for + ~47%, an Hydroid with maximized Power Strength and Pilfering Swarm now grants close to 8x times the drops from a normal mission. If that obvious ridiculous number did not convince you, this will:

As long as Pillfering Swarm is affected by Power Strength, every Mod, Passive, Arcane, or Ability has to be measured by it in the future by DE to not completely break the drop tables of the game. That means they are left with 3 options only:

    1. Never again release anything that increases Power Strength!!!!

    2. Completely rework all drop tables , drops logics and player reward systems, because of 1 damn augment!

    3. Make Pilfering Swarm not be affected by Power Stength!

    .............what would you do?

    4. Cap pilfering swarm at 400% if that was what bothered me about it.

    5. Explain the changes, admit they're a nerf and not a improvement.

An intelligent being has appeared. Thank the lords someone gets it. At least now you can kill a hell of a lot more enemies faster now that you dont have to worry about KSing the Hydroid, which needed like 2-3 casts of tentacle swarm to kill higher than lvl 50 grineer.

Nobody was using pilfering swarm on lvl 50 grineer. Nobody could shoot stuff using the tentacles anyhow, as it spins them around crazily and everyone still waits for tentacles to kill stuff to be 100% sure they'll get the loot increase, because the nerf makes it much more important and the game is too fast paced to keep track of whose been tagged or not.

  2. The changes to pilfering swarm were to encourage team play instead of the whole team sitting around afking/ doing nothing to help while hydroid does the work.

They failed on that account. People either don't bring hydroid, or still let the tentacle swarm do all the killing, people still don't shoot untentacled enemies because you can't tell if they've been touched or not.

It does encourage some teamplay though, i brought my nekros to a mission and we just teamed up, i'd desecrate everything the tentacles killed and use terrify as CC. Before i guess, 400% was enough so you didn't need two loot frames in one mission.

  3. On the long run, the Hydroid changes are actually buffs. Your "end-game" weapons actually do more damage compared to a maximum power strength swarm. So basically, just wait for the enemies to stick to the swarm then blast them with Tonkor or your strong weapon of choice. You also have freed up mod slots if you choose to reduce equipped power strength mods since they don't affect swarm that much anymore.

Tentacle swarm is such a random messy power that everyone still waits for the tentacles to kill people because you can't really keep track of who's tagged or not. It's 100% nerf and a rather useless change.

  4. I'm just surprised they haven't learnt to

    1. Announce changes in advance and explain them, the fact that this would be deeply unpopular had to been known in advance, unless the dev team really are out of touch with how people play the game.

    2. Not throw in changes then not explain them and then let the community fest and feed the fire. Especially don't pretend they aren't nerfs, which is how this came across, even if thats inaccurate.

    3. Stop trying to get rid of loot caves.

  5. I'd rather you didn't nerf frames out of nowhere, than give us 'thank you community' sigils which seem pretty hollow when stuff like this happens. After viver, can't you at least solicit the community and explain stuff before just changing it? You did it for Gmag kind of. How did you not see that people would react poorly to this?

  6. The big irony here is, thanks to the changes pilfering swarm is no longer going to be bothered with. Hydroid's tentacles were a bit of a difficult power to begin with, now people will just switch to desecrate.

  7. If thats the case, instead of contributing to a design where we have meta-sploitive abilities that make the game boring and repetitive and robotic, standing in one place and doing the same thing over and over because it's the most efficient strategy to grind, wouldn't it make more sense to address the basic problem? The problem where players feel like their play time is not properly rewarding?

Like, what do players actually grind for? Keys, cores, rare materials. All of which we could address in other ways, offering new avenues of availability.

An attack power that feeds itself so you never have to care about how much it costs to use also doesn't strike me as a good design.

It'd make sense yes, but they should do that first. I,ve never found pilfering swarm hydroid to be boring, you need to run around firing off tentacles, more fun than nekros whose power hasnt changed much in years.

  8.

And that is why it's being changed.  Hydroid is now the poster boy for meta-exploitative drop farming which is the death of entertaining game design as opposed to efficient. If the frame is lacking in other ways that makes people think this is the only thing he's useful for, then his other abilities need to be tuned up to be more awesome.

the grind is the death of entertaining game design.

  9. Dear OP,

YOU HAVE DOOMED US ALL BY RUINING ANOTHER GOOD FRAME WITH YOUR QUALITY ADJUSTMENTS

I don't know, sounds like this was already in the works, and we've been alert to protest beforehand. He may of done us a favour in the slim chance DE decide the strength of feeling against this is enough to not nerf hydroid.

  10. The next PC Hotfix will have something to speak to this directly: with Pilfering Swarm equipped, enemies won't need to be killed by the tentacles to have an added drop chance. Simply dying on the tentacle will be enough to trigger Pilfering Swarm. However, we will also be removing Power Strength mods affecting Pilfering Swarm to balance this change.

I'm afraid that's a straight up nerf. Is the team unhappy with the power of the ability, or is this a case of thinking nobody would mind such a large reduction in utility?

  11. IF this is true THANK YOU DE! for not putting, yet another new Warframe behind a RNG grind fest mission. Hell still haven't gotten the time to go and get mesa or chroma. Its a shame really :/

It is a RNG grindfest though, there's EIGHT parts all dropping from one boss.
