The early ones were far more controlled, each platform had exactly 3 relays destroyed, and it only happened all roughly the same time period, but never again.

There's never been any stakes for these "invasion events", but having a method that will allow rebuilding could potentially change that.

Perhaps but look around, how many players just wanted to see the relays burn and see the Razorback win even now? No, rebuilding the relays doesn't raise stakes because we didn't know the relays were going to be rigged to have certain ones lost and others allowed to be saved. We still had players partying in the relays, even DE Rebecca was in there, likely to take pictures for the primetime and devstreams next showings. Want consequence? How about those players lost their warframes and gear for being on the station as it blew up? Other players doing a salvage mission to recover those players who decided to see what being blown up looked like.

We can't read the announcement post for Pyrus Project.

It's normal. It'll be unlocked as soon™ as the patch is out.

Such 'permanent' consequence to failure or loss would be awesome, it really ups the stakes and excitement, and gives meaning to events in the gameworld.

For example, EVE Online does this as a matter of course... your ship dies, its dead, permanently, your pilot pod that ejects afterward can get killed after its ejected too... all mods equipped, poof, gone...though RNG is run on the mods that drop with your ship's wreck...  I digress...

The point is that if DE or the playerbase wants any significant meaning to be attached to these events, some excitement, and even fun - then some form of risk-reward mechanic/mode must be introduced. The key is that the loss you suffer must be 'recoverable' with time ie. farming/credits/endo etc.

For real money investments as I recall reading. EVE has been described to me as a system that encourages back stabbing, out-right theft of other players, and creative uses of victimizing others. If nothing else, it would perfect for a 'Hardcore' mode to the game.
