Gear Items not working and search function borked

Selecting gear items doesn't always work.  I've had multiple missions where it fails.  For example, I select the Simaris Scanner, and it goes to switch to the scanner from my weapon, only to freeze at the "unarmed" part of the switch.  No matter how many times I try switching back and forth, the Scanner never equips.  It just freezes at "unarmed."  

Further, while in the inventory menu, I cannot always use the "search" field.  I click into the "search" field, and it does absolutely nothing.  Just sits there, stupidly staring at me and doing nothing.
