Gara and her 1st and 4th Ability not Working Together

So I know that if you use your first ability on the wall she creates on the 4th ability it should destroy the wall and in urn buff the damage of the 2nd ability, but the  first abil does not trigger on the first try and will sometimes force me to recast the 4th abil to try and buff. I don't know if this is intentional to prevent accidental destruction of her wall, but I don't think that it's meant to make it harder.
