Game Awards 2018

oh that...

It's not a sincere award show at all about game quality, as was obvious last year.  It's all about money and corporate fat cats rubbing elbows.

Overwatch won "labor of love" last year, signifying how much constant support the game got from its creators..... a game that was literally only 1 year old.  It shouldn't have been in that category at all.

This is all about money and hype. That's the only reason Destiny 2 is on that list. We all know better how bad that game has been doing with all the bad PR it's been getting.

RDR2 has been out for two weeks but it's nominated in every category it's eligible for?

Aside from the online mode not being released yet, how does it matter how long the game's been out for in regards to the categories it's nominated for?

What does that have to do with anything? Game of the Year means best game released this year. RDR2 was released this year, hence it belongs exactly in that category.

I don't doubt RDR2 is an excellent game. I don't even doubt it's one of the best games this year.

But it being nominated in every category it's even remotely eligible for? There just has to be a good amount of recency bias at play. If not plain ol' $$$.

I mean, games that were 1 or less year old (and still in beta) were nominated as best on-going last year, does that make sense to you? Warframe was nominated there and technically we're still in beta I guess, yet more than 5 years of it. These awards mean nothing.

Edit: If we wanna add more bs on it:
"This year more than 100 games and individuals have been nominated for The Game Awards. Choose your favorites below. You can vote once every 24 hours, and if you share your vote it receives an extra boost in our winner formula. Winners will be announced live on December 6th at The Game Awards. "

Recency bias makes actually a lot of sense here, yes. I see gaming awards as a popularity contest more so than anything else. They are a decent indication for what's going on in the gaming scene but not exhaustively so (no Warframe nomination for example, etc. etc...). As such getting worked up over them in any way is kinda not worth it.

Allow me to put it this way the reveal for all the winners is the 6th. This game was released on 10/26 so it will have been out for just a little over a month by the time the winners are revealed. A lot of people who want to play it haven’t yet. It’s a bit biased to release this list now when their own limit for games release to make it on these lists are until the 16th. So games that come out on or before that day (such as pokemon lets go, Fallout 76, Hitman 2, Civilization VI and any indie game to come out in the next 3 days) Further more to be nominated in EVERY category it was eligible in is too much.

Spoiler

Games eligible for The Game Awards this year must be available for public consumption on or before November 16, 2018. Titles that are released after this date will be eligible for The Game Awards ceremony in 2018. (Similarly, games that were released in December 2017 are eligible for this year’s awards).

https://thegameawards.com/faq-rules/

I suppose the point I am trying to make is that these "awards" are a sham. The winners have already been chosen and they are working on their new "award winning game" boxes.
