In other MMOs even the guild leader is subject to being dropped for not logging for a long time (2 weeks to a few months at most) so it might be the same here since clan is just guild by another name.

If you are away for more than 30 days someone can message DE and get you demoted, and have themselves replace you as Founding Warlord.

• This is most likely what happened.
