Ore Disappearing After Combat

So in PoE, I'm trying to mine with my Sunset Plasma Drill, and everything starts fine. I detect ore and can mine it perfectly. But after going into combat and switching to my weapons, then going back to my drill, no ore spawns anywhere on the map. I've even had times where I found ore, but I killed an enemy first, then went back to the ore, and it's just gone. This is terribly irritating, because I mine in caves, and I can't ignore the enemies while I mine. All I can do is get lucky with ore spawns in areas of the map with no enemies.
