Cortanis
Ether Charamote Bait or the fish itself is bugged. They're simply not spawning at all as far as I've seen. I was going by info on the wiki as far as locations and times to fish for them were concerned and when those failed, I broadened my tests of them. I've tried the bait at all times of the day for the full cycle in both caves and in ponds. Not a Charamote has spawned once for me. I would have tried the lakes too, but I'm out of bait..... While I'm at it on that point. I thought we learned the collective lesson with Plains on the bait issue DE. Why are these not reusable blueprints this time? Capping rep the way you have plus the costs of everything else so far has made for a hard cap in testing stuff like this.
Cortanis
Update to this. Apparently the bait is entirely unneeded as I've recently learned from some others who have actually found the fish. It's a hotspot issue, or rather a total lack of them entirely. I've not tried this going to every cave I know of on the map and still have yet to see a hotspot at all. Ether hotspots spawning needs to be fixed or the bait needs to actually do something. Apparently if  you can find a hotspot, they'll spawn even with out the bait at a regular rate. This makes the bait pointless in the first place and the fact that the bait apparently does nothing with out the hotspot just makes it broken. Even Murkray bait will spawn some with out a hotspot. So I'm still calling the bait bugged/broken.
TheUHF
I'm officially angry over this. Its a complete and total waste of my time. At least I threw away bait for nothing. I will not be wasting any more time on this, and I will not (I guess) be using any Fortuna weapons because this ain't worth it. Not on any level. THIS IS NOT FUN, IT IS CONFUSING, AND IT IS STUPID. I know the feeling. Effectively, fishing being little more than broken like this has made the new weapons little more than pay to play only. I've yet to meet anyone who has legit managed to catch enough of the elusive fish types to gut them to make the guns on their own. Best case scenario, the people I have met that have managed to build the guns have still had to pay plat to other people for those fish. That's not even counting the headache that is they dye not working, other baits not working, bait dropping through the pool and into the floor, and any other bugs not mentioned. limpidpurity
Yeah something is up with fish and bait spawns. I seem to have longwinders bugged - on launch day they were everywhere during warm weather without needing bait; I caught 7 of them or something. But ever since then I've only seen 2 longwinders appear... two... each without bait on separate warm periods. ): When I tried longwinder bait, in a lake hotspot during warm weather, only echowinders and krillers spawned. I didn't get a single longwinder.

-_Highlander_-
I have the same issue but dind't want to complain to fast over this . until i saw this topic I'll join this section as iam confussed whats going on with this new type fish Drain to quickly thru my Bait's without fetching the specific fish itself .. getting the whole time Mirewinder ugh pls devs come on Let us make our own bait in the foundry ( so we don't have to use the standings for it ) and care less about baits then
Cortanis
I'm starting to suspect that all the baits are bugged at this point. Need to do some testing when I can finally find time though. I haven't had much difference using the other baits, but then again the spawns for them are pretty regular with a couple of exceptions. 20 hours ago, limpidpurity said: Yeah something is up with fish and bait spawns. I've had the issue myself like I said before, but I only tried it at a couple spots. When I'm testing stuff like this I usually go through at least a couple dozen bait and try at about as many locations. Coupled with known bugs with the dye as well, I'm gunna have to say they're just bugged. Still need to find time to test though.
TheUHF
There's a reason I don't fish in real life. Its boring, just like this. You don't need bait, you just need dye (easier) and you need to recognize the different between blue, light blue, greenish blue, and a more teal blue... in specific locations. In short, you'd never ever ever do this if the community didn't put together guides, but many are misleading or just wrong. You can find them straight north of Fortuna, in a teeny tiny vertical cave near the edge of the map. BUUUT you do need to wait till you have just the right shade of blue, haze, and sun to fish there, or it won't work. Also, the game seems to just give you what ever bait it feels like so if you have the wrong kind for the trip, you are expected to just throw that out with all the standing, before you get to what you need. A semi intelligent interface might make that problem go away... In any case that means you simply can't make a trip of fishing a bunch of spots since you'll likely be wrongly equipped courtesy of the game. THE_ZEEK
there is a cave in the true north., they spawn plenty for me there
Drex83
Make sure on the Charamote to look for them more in warm weather. I've rarely if ever seen them in Cold. But it's definitely in caves and I've had quite a few and I'm not sure I've ever actually used the charamote bait tbh. As far as good cave fishing goes though I do highly recommend the cave to the SE of the Spaceport it's got a VERY large body of water in it with multiple islands, lot of spots to stand and fish all over the spot
Zavenosk
Charamotes require hotspots, simple as that. I've been using the cave southeast of the spaceport for fishing, and have encountered no difficulties with this fish (minus one time with bait falling through the water/floor, which thankfully i could not replicate). I think the major problem here is fishing hotspots in most caves (such as the one west of the spaceport) not showing up properly, making it neih-impossible to know when and where a hotspot is active. Drex83
I'll be honest I've never been able to visually see the hot spots in Vallis I've just winged it and done fine. In my case tonight I just walked back into Fortuna from fishing in my fav cave we just talked about, I was using Synathid bait which I used two of while the weather was warm, I was there the entire Warm period and walked out with 5 Synathids, and 5 Charamotes. I guess a couple other variables I could preface that with is I do have a Drop Chance boost right now. I also selected a Tier 4 bounty before entering. I'll be honest, I have no idea if this effects it but I can handle it so I don't really care. I know in POE, not sure if with the new mining system, or with Fortuna in general, if it applies but I know for sure in POE enemies, fish, mining, breakable objects, all sported more drops at higher levels so if I'm farming materials I've been making sure to set a high level before going out first
devolicious
I've had zero problems fishing Charamote with bait. I fished 10+ Charamote today (without any boosters). You just have to make sure you're in the right weather conditions and drop the bait in a hotspot. The cave lower right of Spaceport is a very good cave to fish in. The cave lower right of Spaceport is a very good cave to fish in. (emphasis mine) I can confirm that. It's got 3 different hotspot locations and plenty of nice platforms to stand on. I picked up enough charamotes to build my ocucor from there using only dye (I'm not wasting money on single-use bait).
(XBOX)DakVoidcloaker
These aren't spawning for me. I catch one every so often, sometimes even during the cold cycle. But I've NEVER seen a Charamote once I put Charamote bait in the water. In fact I've never seen more than 2 in a pond (both cold cycle, no bait, 10 minutes apart). Seems like something is a little off here with the bait. Tried that spaceport cave yesterday and never saw one despite using Charamote bait in warm weather. UPDATE: Finally had a decent fishing day -- guessing I found a hotspot, though it didn't look different than what I had previously thought was a hotspot. Perhaps these hotspots need to be a bit easier to distinguish? Edited January 6, 2019 by (XB1)DakVoidcloaker
