Mesa's Passive

To be frank, it doesn't make much sense. For those not in the know (or not wanting to pull up another tab) Mesa's Passive has 3 effects:

  • Single sidearms are given a 20% faster reload speed.
  • Dual sidearms are given a 10% faster fire rate.
  • Not having a melee weapon gives +50 base health.

All these things sound neat up front, but have little use in practice. Single sidearms typically already possess fast reloads, so the bonus is minute. Dual sidearms often have exceptional fire rates, any more tends to add unnecessary recoil. As for not using a melee weapon... that's a whole issue in itself.

Melee is the staple of Warframe combat. It allows players to block a chunk of incoming damage, aids movement with un-zoomed aim glide and ground slams, and allows for easy punishment of CQC enemies. Sacrificing all those pros for a small amount of extra health is pointless. Its better to just equip a Hirudo or any mod with Life Steal than to go weaponless. And just to add salt, Mesa only has 65 armor. Even with the extra health, the overall mileage of it will still be terrible.

Mesa is a cowgirl. The Tenno gunslinger with the fastest hand in the system. Her passive should compliment her role as a dexterous mid-range gunfighter. So here are the proposed changes:

  • Swap single and dual sidearm's bonuses. Singles get +10% fire rate. Duals get +20% reload speed.
  • Instead of giving a base health bonus, make going without a melee weapon give +5 health regen/sec. This will allow her to take full advantage of a run-and-gun playstyle, jumping from cover to cover healing any blows she takes between them.

I dunno about the secondary, I have a dual Grakatas build that is insane dakka and kind of fun.

The melee buff is pointless. 50hp? To be worth not bringing a melee weapon it needs to be much more. Regen might do it, but I'd rather have something that works with her abilities. Her 2 (make enemies fumble) is the one that compensates for the lack of melee, so maybe that should get booster? Maybe double the effect duration when she doesn't have a melee?

Take it even further now: Make it so if she goes without a primary, she gets another 20% extra damage to her secondary? 

That'd be a little too strong for a Passive ability. Mesa's Passive is designed to be a "Gritty Gunslinger". The first part of the passive gives the gunslinger vibe, and the second (is suppose to) give her the grit vibe.

Honestly I think a bit of health regen would perfectly fit the "grit" part. Wild Westerners typically lacked hospitals and doctors were rare, so they had to make due with their own wits. The toughest riders not only knew how to draw fast and aim true, but also how to treat their own wounds.
