TL;DR: Warframe player type questionnaire in 'Hidden Contents'/Spoiler section.

Greetings, Tenno!

Long-time fan of the game, and I'm currently taking a User Interface/User Experience class for Video Game Design.

One of the things that we've been tasked with doing is taking a game that we (my project partner and I) know well, and develop a new 'skin' for its menus and HUD, in a hypothetical sequel to the game.

To create an effective one, we need to know our target audience, which in this case happens to be all of you!

We basically need to develop the concept of what a typical user does, why they play, and what they're looking for in an interface.

As such, we're looking to have any/all of you fill out a short 53-component, open-ended questionnaire, if any of you would be so kind as to do so. We are capable of creating the archetypes of ourselves and those that we're friends with, but we wanted to see if there were larger trends or considerations that we simply didn't have insight of.

Please keep in mind that you don't need to answer nearly all of the questions! I might add a TL;DR and our own answers in a version of it after class tomorrow. In the meantime, feel free to answer in point-form format for whatever questions you have the most to talk about.

Happy Hunting.

Personal Information

1.     Optional: What is your age range in decades (1-10, 10-20, 20-30, 40-50, etc)?

        - 30-40

Out-of-World

2.     What forms of media do you enjoy?

        - Videogames, TV-Shows, Youtube (of various usefulness, from pure nonsensical entertainment to educational), Novels (don't list as "books" because prefer to read digital stuff, Comics to limited extent)

3.     What level of knowledge do you have with technology?

        - I do not have enough knowledge to accurately and fully evaluate my knowledge.

4.     How comfortable are you with online platforms, stores, and purchases?

        - Use 'em, love 'em, they're the best.

5.     What knowledge do you have with the specific platforms Warframe is available on?

        - Good enough.

6.     How long have you played Warframe for?

        - Occasionaly since 2013, regularly since summer 2014, daily since TSD.

7.     What platform(s) do you play on? What other platforms do you own?

        - PC. I also own PSP, Nintendo DS and 3DS.

8.     How long do you like to play games in one sitting? What’s the average length, and what causes it to vary?

        - I like to nolife for 12-14 hours at a time, but, unfortunately, life has other plans, so all I get is a couple of hours tops in a good day. On average half an hour. Life causes it to vary the most. And length of a game. If it is a short arcade game that can be beaten in half an hour, it isn't very suited to play for hours.

9.     How frequently do you change games? Genres?

       - Rather often.

10.  What is your occupation (if any)? What parts do you enjoy (if any), and why?

       - Graphical designer. I enjoy most the downtime, because I can spend some time for some counterproductive shenanigans. Like right now.

11.  Are the games you play similar to your other recreational activities (if any) you do?

       - No

12.  What other interests do you have?

       - Toy collecting

13.  What special knowledge, skills, experience, or aptitudes do you have that might influence what games you play or your playstyle?

       None

Interface

14.  What do you have for spatial reasoning, emotional intelligence, musical aptitude, logical/mathematical reasoning, and/or body-kinesthetic (twitch-based, point and click, turn-based, linguistic intelligence) aptitudes?

       - My controller is M+KB, complexity expectations are low.

16.  What types of controllers do you know, use, and are confident with/use well?

        - M+KB, XB1 controller and similar/compatible, Steering wheel, Razer Hydra.

17.  Do you have any control preferences (including complexity) for the following;

o   Camera

        - Mouse

o   Menus

        - Mouse

o   Haptic

o   Information overlays

18.  How much information can you process, understand, and manage at any one give time both on screen and via the interface (cameras, controls, information overlays, etc.)?

       - Not enough to 1CC a danmaku game.

19.  What kinds of interface (camera, haptic, info) do you enjoy? Which do you not or reject?

Monetary

20.  What kinds of business models do you prefer? Which do you dislike/reject?

        - Money up front with no additional in-game purchases and f2p with pay-for-what-you-want purchases. Dislike/reject: randomised BS a.k.a. lootbox gambling, Co-co-combo of money up front with lootboxes inside.

21.  What makes you want to spend real money on this game (if applicable)?

        - I like the game, I like what it has to offer for money.

22.  How much money do you spend on games a year? How is this split between things such as game copies, microtransactions, and DLC, and why?

        - Varies very wildly, depending on the games coming out. Most of the purchases are game copies. DLCs are rare, as most of the games I play don't have them, and worthwhile DLCs are a rare breed in and of themselves.

Microtransactions... Well, that's an interesting one. All of my microtransactions are plat purchases, tennogen and Prime Accessories. So PA alone probably can take half of my gaming expences this year.

Motivation

23.  Why do you play games?  (Escape, learning, socializing, fulfilling a fantasy, etc.)

        - Easy dopamine and literally have nothing better to do with my life.

24.  What drives and motivates you to keep playing a game once you’ve started? Is it always the same?

        - Depends on the game very much, but generally it can be summed up to Goal/Challenge/Overall feel of the process

25.  What things get you excited to play a game? (Certain types of gameplay, graphics, multiplayer, campaigns, etc.)

       - Genre, Gameplay depth, Challenge, Setting, Visual aestetics.

       - Kill/rape/loot everything unfriendly, help anyone friendly;  want variation via depth of machanics, like skill-based challenge.

29.  Do you single-player or multiplayer experiences?

       - Both

30.  Do you prefer competitive or cooperative experiences? What role do you prefer in the latter? This may include any of the following, or your own;

        - Cooperative. Role: the one who turns living things into dead things. Occasionally may enjoy healer role. Primarily when healer can dish out pain.

        - Mid to hardcore.

32.  What kinds of game experiences do you play? How often do you play each of these?

        - What kinds are there?

33.  What kinds of goals and win conditions do you enjoy?

        - Kill sh!t. All of it.

34.  What kinds of challenges do you enjoy for this type of game? What kinds do you not?

        - Shooting. Accurate shooting.

35.  What kinds of activities do you enjoy? What kinds do you not?

        - As it turns out, depends entirely on execution. Never would've thought I'd enjoy fishing, mining and hunting.

36.  What kinds of fail states do you enjoy? Which do you not?

37.  What pace do you prefer in this genre?

        - Fast

38.  What kinds of choices you find interesting and engaging?

        - What gear/abilities to take to kill sh!t.

39.  To what extent do you prefer skill- or chance-based games?

        - Skill-based all the way, chance-based are a no-no.

40.  What things in this genre do you find enjoyable, engaging, interesting, or challenging?

        - Shooting, movement.

41.  What in this genre do you dislike, find frustrating/irritating, avoid, or quit because of?

        - Shoulder camera.

42.  What things (such as complexity or controls) in this genre are ‘OK’ if they’re low quality?

43.  What things will you NOT tolerate in this genre if they’re low quality?

        - Shooting, movement.

44.  What is your preferred difficulty level? How much is ‘too much’, ‘OK but not enjoyable’ and ‘too easy’ for you?

        - Preferred: fighting through close calls, relying on personal skill and right desicions.

OK but not enjoyable: fighting by the skin of my teeth through bad design, getting occasional 1HKO out of nowhere.

Too much: getting constantly 1HKO'd while having little to none possibilities to affect the situation.

Too easy: everything dies from a sneeze in a general direction.

45.  What is your preferred complexity level? How much is ‘too much’, ‘OK but not enjoyable’, and ‘too easy’ for you?

          - Preferred: having a lot of options, forming wastly different expiriences

But generally, everything depends on the game and the genre. Even simple things can be very enjoyable, depending on the execution.

46.  What kind of gameplay progression do you prefer in this kind of game? (Slow with an easy ramp-up, or more challenging and abrupt?).

        - More challenging and abrupt

47.  What level of intensity/pace do you enjoy in game experiences? Is it always the same?

        - Differs depending on the game/genre. Arcade/action games should be fast-paces and intense. Turn-based tactic games can be intens due to situations and decisions you have to make, but slow paced.

48.  What are your expectations for gameplay quality for games in this genre?

        - Expect the best, prepare for the worst.

49.  What are your expectations for graphics quality in this genre?

        - Expect the best, prepare for the worst.

50.  Do you enjoy pausing and/or progress saves? If so, to what degree/how often?

        - Pausing - essential for any game. Saving and how often it should be depends on the game, and what experience the game should provide.

51.  Do you prefer customization or ‘out of the box’? If you enjoy customization, what do you find the most important and/or enjoyable?

        - Customization. Controls is the most important, appearance is the most enjoyable. Character skills/gear, playstyle in general - importans and enjoyability depends on the game and genre.

52.  Do you prefer realistic stylization of gameplay action and visuals? If so, such as what?

        - Rather not. Realism more often than not leads to hindering imagination and possibilities.

53.  Do you enjoy story in games not at all, only if it’s interactive, or all the time?

        - Gameplay is above everything else. If game fails to hook me with its gameplay, I don't give a clem about it's story. If game tries to shove minutes of cutscenes before the gameplay starts - into the bin game goes.

Interactive story is much more preferable, othervise, what's the point of having an interactive media?

54.  What types of emotional styles and tones do you enjoy in games?

55.  What art styles do you enjoy in games? Which do you reject?

       - Enjoy: Something unusual and well realized. Reject: Poop-brown 'realism'.

56.  What audio styles/control do you enjoy in games?

Hey folks, thanks for your views and replies so far!

As I mentioned earlier, I'm including my answers to the questionnaire, and my project partner will be posting his at some point today as well.

If anyone's still interested in submitting answers (even in part), we still have another week to this day to accept and incorporate answers into our presentation.

TL;DR: Customization, strategy, crafting, and challenge.

1.     Optional: What is your age range in decades (1-10, 10-20, 20-30, 40-50, etc)?

20-30

Out-of-World

Quote

2.     What forms of media do you enjoy?

Video games. As a college student with a Netflix subscription and a transit pass, I don't have much need for cable/TV/Radio.

3.     What level of knowledge do you have with technology?

Decent, I try to stay somewhat on top of it for gaming reasons, and I did a year of technology retail.

4.     How comfortable are you with online platforms, stores, and purchases?

Very much so, I've used Steam for multiple years now, and have both ordered online and 'in-store' in games dozens of times.

5.     What knowledge do you have with the specific platforms Warframe is available on?

Pretty deep on Xbox, and somewhat for PC. I don't have any experience with Switch or PS4, but would definitely get the former if a Xbox>NSW transfer was introduced.

6.     How long have you played Warframe for?

1000 hours in-mission, 1700 hours total since Jan '15, with a couple large breaks, the largest (04/17-11/18) me returning from.

7.     What platform(s) do you play on? What other platforms do you own?

Xbox. PC.

8.     How long do you like to play games in one sitting? What’s the average length, and what causes it to vary?

Too long. ~6 hours if my streams are anything to go off of, and school/group projects.

9.     How frequently do you change games? Genres?

Rarely only play one game a day, and the three most prominent (R6S, Warframe, and Mabinogi) are all in their own genre. I generally don't branch out of FPS games though, unless I'm binging a new single-player game after it was on sale.

10.  What is your occupation (if any)? What parts do you enjoy (if any), and why?

Student of Video Game Design currently. I have previous experience in retail.

11.  Are the games you play similar to your other recreational activities (if any) you do?

Nope; I'm in Canada and don't attend gun ranges or conventions, respectively. Cost is certainly a consideration in this, especially with most relevant content being in the USA. Mabinogi recently had their first-ever convention (after existing for a decade, lol) in LA actually yesterday, but I couldn't attend since my passport expired.

12.  What other interests do you have?

I think my game selections pretty much highlight the most important; strategy/co-operative games and guns. I'm also interested in building like is encouraged in Minecraft/7DtD.

13.  What special knowledge, skills, experience, or aptitudes do you have that might influence what games you play or your playstyle?

Since I was involved in Air Cadets for 9 years between being a Cadet and Staff, I like to this that I'm decent at strategy and task allocation, allowing me to generally slip into a 'leader' role (event when people don't want one, lol) when playing games.

Interface

Quote

14.  What do you have for spatial reasoning, emotional intelligence, musical aptitude, logical/mathematical reasoning, and/or body-kinesthetic (twitch-based, point and click, turn-based, linguistic intelligence) aptitudes?

Spatial is strong, which I like to think was encouraged via my interest in LEGO and ROBLOX as a kid.

I haven't had any relationships so I can't really answer 'emotional intelligence'.

I did Choir for 2 years and Band for 8, but never really learned how to count time while playing, so I'm more of a 'by-the-ear' person.

I took Bachelor of Science, Physics for a year if that answers that.

I'm slow to react despite maxing out my aim sensitivity, but like to think that I'm pretty accurate when I do. I've been trying to get better at responding with burst-fire rather than spraying in games, as well.

15.  What is your controller and complexity expectations for this genre of game?

Heavy; if you don't use all the buttons, chances are you're making things more difficult on me than you have to.

16.  What types of controllers do you know, use, and are confident with/use well?

Xbox controller, mouse and keyboard.

17.  Do you have any control preferences (including complexity) for the following;

o   Camera

Freedom is important; I've never played the old Resident Evil games, but couldn't really imagine I'd enjoy the forced perspective, even for the sake of framing.

o   Menus

Heavily visual; I dislike reading when a simple image conveys the same information as simply (not that I'm against descriptions, and think that despite Warframe's out-of-game menu is subpar for the lack of visuals, is great for its hover-on description).

o   Haptic

I shouldn't feel like I'm using power tools, but that my guns aren't shooting air.

o   Information overlays

The more complex and stylistic the better; as long as the information is useful, I'd like to see it.

18.  How much information can you process, understand, and manage at any one give time both on screen and via the interface (cameras, controls, information overlays, etc.)?

I've never counted it but I can tell you with this project that we're looking to add more UI.

19.  What kinds of interface (camera, haptic, info) do you enjoy? Which do you not or reject?

Most games now feel naked if they don't have haptic, thanks to my CoD/Battlefield stint. I wouldn't say I 'reject' any type of interface, but if controls are NOT customizable, I am turned off from a game.

20.  What kinds of business models do you prefer? Which do you dislike/reject?

F2P is fine other than when people don't understand that power creep and whaling is a big part of it. I've never really been into subscription-based gameplay, especially since I know I won't put all my free time into one game, for one period of time, so I'd feel like I'm wasting my subscription if I was playing something else.

21.  What makes you want to spend real money on this game (if applicable)?

Just a really well-done game. I continually buy the Premium Pass version of games from the get-go 'cause I like savings as well. Collector's Editions are a huge pull for me, if it has practical items like the backpack from R6S or the watch from Tom Clancy's the Division, though I have also gotten the Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 Collectors (although we're still waiting to see how the latter turns out...)

22.  How much money do you spend on games a year? How is this split between things such as game copies, microtransactions, and DLC, and why?

Probably ~$200, mostly full 'Deluxe' editions of games when they're on sale/promo. I haven't ever really been invested in microtransactions, but I'd say that game copies and DLC are evenly quantified.

Motivation

23.  Why do you play games?  (Escape, learning, socializing, fulfilling a fantasy, etc.)

Self entertainment, and if my streaming kicks off, entertainment of others. I enjoy learning and mastering systems (without looking at guides for the most part; I like figuring out stuff by myself), and it's a great way to socialize with my brother that's 1400 km away.

24.  What drives and motivates you to keep playing a game once you’ve started? Is it always the same?

Difficulty, continued mastery of a system, variety of content (which is what's kept me interested in Warframe and ARK: Survival Evolved for so long, and likewise caused me to drop Minecraft.

25.  What things get you excited to play a game? (Certain types of gameplay, graphics, multiplayer, campaigns, etc.)

26.  Do you like to chase achievements?

Where feasible, I don't go for ones that I know will be tedious but if I stumble across one that HAPPENS to be tedious, I'll probably end up doing it anyway since I'm so stubborn.

27.  Do you like to pursue cheats and/or ‘easter eggs’? If so, what kinds?

No, I frown upon gameplay disruption for the sake of self-indulgence (for the former) or immersion (for the latter). I think accessing areas you 'shouldn't' via jumping and whatnot is fine so long as you're in an unexpected but not invulnerable place (and was actually a big fan of doing so in Siege until they prevented it), and I totally understand speedrunners looking for glitches since they're not negatively impacting anyone else's experience. Easter eggs are fine in my opinion, so long as they make sense in-universe.

Playstyle

Quote

28.  What kind of personality and behavioral characteristics do you have when playing games? (Good/evil, bold/stealthy, tactical/tinkerer, want variation/sameness, like challenge/ease, etc.)

I like playing with variety and challenge, and enjoy exploring complicated systems for crafting or customization, the latter of which is the reason I switched from CoD to Battlefield. I prefer playing 'nice and noble', and look down on trolling.

29.  Do you single-player or multiplayer experiences?

Multi-player CAN make everything better.

30.  Do you prefer competitive or cooperative experiences? What role do you prefer in the latter? This may include any of the following, or your own;

o   Tactical, stealth, or otherwise melee fighter.

No, I don't even really enjoy 3D movies.

o   Tactical, stealth, or otherwise ranged fighter.

Decent, I enjoy roles like Sombra from Overwatch if I can learn them well enough.

o   Scout, healer, amplifier, re-energizer, or other support roles.

I like this if I can flex like Zenyatta or Bridgett in Overwatch, but dislike straight healing; it's generally just ability spam (which I try to avoid, even when attacking).

o   Squad leader, orchestrator, or tactician.

This'un is 100% me.

Preferences

Quote

31.  Are you a casual, midcore, hardcore, professional gamer, and/or a fanboy enthusiast? Is this your typical gaming mentality?

I'm such a fanboy, especially as far as the top three games I play (Mabinogi/Siege/Warframe) I'd LIKE to be professional but I don't really seem to have the skill or reflexes to do it myself, and I'd be hardcore if not for most of the 'best' builds being relatively boring in my opinion; they're generally restricted to 2 or 3 actions deemed the most effective, and all others seem to be tossed to the wayside.

32.  What kinds of game experiences do you play? How often do you play each of these?

The ones where a really nice strategy comes together among a team is my favourite, and I actively seek it out in Siege (which generally causes me to boss around other people, unfortunately) or long/difficult Warframe runs.

33.  What kinds of goals and win conditions do you enjoy?

Personal gratitude/improvement, and especially ones that allow for more customization.

34.  What kinds of challenges do you enjoy for this type of game? What kinds do you not?

I wish we had less 'hide and seek puzzles' like in the Sacrifice, and more mental puzzles like the hacking (I was disappointed to find out that there was only 2). Memory puzzles I'm indifferent on, but I wish they didn't just yell out the answer to you (like once again, in the Sacrifice).

35.  What kinds of activities do you enjoy? What kinds do you not?

C U S T O M I Z A T I O N AND C R A F T I N G. Mindless grinding; give me something to do while I'm wasting hours on your game.

36.  What kinds of fail states do you enjoy? Which do you not?

Death and especially permadeath seem fair to me, so long as you know ahead of time. Come to think of it, anything other than time trials I enjoy.

37.  What pace do you prefer in this genre?

F A S T.

38.  What kinds of choices you find interesting and engaging?

C U S T O M I Z A T I O N AND C R A F T I N G.

39.  To what extent do you prefer skill- or chance-based games?

Skill as heck man, I love strategy and I am OK with chance, but I always enter chance-based with a 'plan to fail, hope to win' mentality.

40.  What things in this genre do you find enjoyable, engaging, interesting, or challenging?

Story seems to be continually lacking; the fact that I don't remember much about Destiny or Warframe's story other than looking it up on wiki is unfortunate. They have definitely increased the quality compared to like, Vor's Prize, but it's also so much content introduced at once, especially when it's never relevant again... *cough*RedQueen*cough*

41.  What in this genre do you dislike, find frustrating/irritating, avoid, or quit because of?

Time trials, mindless grinding. I do NOT enjoy submissive gameplay at all; I am playing because I WANT to stimulated.

42.  What things (such as complexity or controls) in this genre are ‘OK’ if they’re low quality?

Well, I 'tolerate' Archwing controls, don't I? I'm OK with being introduced to content that becomes quickly irrelevant *cough*InfestedSalvageandDefection*cough*, but that doesn't mean I enjoy them.

43.  What things will you NOT tolerate in this genre if they’re low quality?

Uncustomizable controls; I loved the premise of Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, but couldn't do it because of the controls, and I've dropped Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands like thrice because I hate how slowly you move, especially when aimed in.

44.  What is your preferred difficulty level? How much is ‘too much’, ‘OK but not enjoyable’ and ‘too easy’ for you?

I'm stubborn, so I'll dig myself in a hole occasionally. I play most games on the 2nd highest difficulty unless I'm new to the IP/genre, but then will play another run on the hardest if I feel that there's enough replayability value.

45.  What is your preferred complexity level? How much is ‘too much’, ‘OK but not enjoyable’, and ‘too easy’ for you?

Feed me more.

46.  What kind of gameplay progression do you prefer in this kind of game? (Slow with an easy ramp-up, or more challenging and abrupt?).

Challenging, so long as the old content stays relevant; don't introduce new content just to challenge me mentally and then remove it from gameplay forever.

47.  What level of intensity/pace do you enjoy in game experiences? Is it always the same?

High, almost all the time. If I'm up late and I want low intensity, I'ma just watch Netflix.

48.  What are your expectations for gameplay quality for games in this genre?

Honestly, DE has set it very high for me.

49.  What are your expectations for graphics quality in this genre?

I mean, this is worlds above Mabinogi, and I don't mind it as-is, since there's so much going on I couldn't imagine NOT being distracted if there was more detail.

50.  Do you enjoy pausing and/or progress saves? If so, to what degree/how often?

Allow me/the lobby to vote a pause (as long as it's majority rules, or solo-only), and autosave in the background so I can't cheese games. I used save scumming to learn how to play XCOM, unfortunately.

51.  Do you prefer customization or ‘out of the box’? If you enjoy customization, what do you find the most important and/or enjoyable?

C U S T O M I Z A T I O N AND C R A F T I N G, and combining for new results is the most important to me; I loved how Dead Space 3 had their weapon customization.

52.  Do you prefer realistic stylization of gameplay action and visuals? If so, such as what?

Yeah, I like seeing consistency moreso than reality so if there's a specific art style that ties it together, all the better. I didn't feel like the text in Combat Arms's killstreaks matched the gameplay, so I felt that was a poor stylization choice, but otherwise if there's wiggle room, I'd prefer if reality was reflected, which is why I'm such a fanboy for the titles that I am.

53.  Do you enjoy story in games not at all, only if it’s interactive, or all the time?

Only if it's interactive, don't feed me Uncharted; I've never played it since I don't have access to a PlayStation, but from what I've heard of it.... I'm not interested. The Walking Dead was great for finding that middle ground, but there was also only one correct way to solve each level so I didn't particularly like that either; give me something more Portal-esque, with multiple solutions ANY day.

54.  What types of emotional styles and tones do you enjoy in games?

Empowering is pretty important for me I think. I don't recall ever feeling sad or longing after playing a game so I guess the less I run into that, the better.

55.  What art styles do you enjoy in games? Which do you reject?

Ones that tie it to the genre, which is why I'm a big fan of what DE has done with Warframe. I don't like overstylization for the sake of sensation stimulation, such as when you do any action in a mobile game and you get all these sirens, dynamic texts, and lights.

56.  What audio styles/control do you enjoy in games?

I don't much touch audio, but FEED ME THE CONTROLLER SETTINGS.

1.     Optional: What is your age range in decades (1-10, 10-20, 20-30, 40-50, etc)?

20-30

Out-of-World

2.     What forms of media do you enjoy?

I don't.

3.     What level of knowledge do you have with technology?

Beginner front-end code and retail level data entry.

4.     How comfortable are you with online platforms, stores, and purchases?

Moderately comfortable.

5.     What knowledge do you have with the specific platforms Warframe is available on?

That console limitations aren't just graphical.

6.     How long have you played Warframe for?

2ish years.

7.     What platform(s) do you play on? What other platforms do you own?

Xbox One, only one I own.  Girlfriend owns a PS4, Xbone, and Switch.

8.     How long do you like to play games in one sitting? What’s the average length, and what causes it to vary?

Either one to two hours or over eight hours.  The cause is an overnight career.

9.     How frequently do you change games? Genres?

Not frequently, I tend to glue to certain games for weeks or months unless I find something that pisses me off.  I burn out of games faster because of how I dig into them.

10.  What is your occupation (if any)? What parts do you enjoy (if any), and why?

Retail operations for a company I will not disclose.  I enjoy not having to routinely interact with customers and most of lower end management for given lengths of time.

11.  Are the games you play similar to your other recreational activities (if any) you do?

No, I cannot tame a dragon and ride it to work.  Simultaneously I cannot court sorceresses while the country is at war.

12.  What other interests do you have?

I am interested in Anachronism and medieval history, as well as firearms and general memes.

13.  What special knowledge, skills, experience, or aptitudes do you have that might influence what games you play or your playstyle?

I am prior-service so I enjoy more wargames, war like games, and the military in general.  However that is a backend material, I cannot stand Call of Duty.

Interface

14.  What do you have for spatial reasoning, emotional intelligence, musical aptitude, logical/mathematical reasoning, and/or body-kinesthetic (twitch-based, point and click, turn-based, linguistic intelligence) aptitudes?

I'm good with wide fields of view, not great at math, not interested in music unless it's purely recreational and not used directly as the resource, my twitch to point isn't as good as it was in college and I only know one language but relatively competent enough.

15.  What is your controller and complexity expectations for this genre of game?

It's a simple game, I don't expect complex controls.  Armored Core For Answer takes far longer to get used to than Warframe does.

16.  What types of controllers do you know, use, and are confident with/use well?

The old Playstation and newer Xbox controllers.  I haven't had a gaming PC in years but a gaming mouse is easy too.

17.  Do you have any control preferences (including complexity) for the following;

o   Camera

o   Menus

o   Haptic

o   Information overlays

I prefer fixed camera, simple menus, responsive haptic touches, and simple information overlays to be read easily.

18.  How much information can you process, understand, and manage at any one give time both on screen and via the interface (cameras, controls, information overlays, etc.)?

A lot so long as it's not in formula.  I usually maximize my HUD to process information such as altitude and speed exceeding 2000 kmpH.

19.  What kinds of interface (camera, haptic, info) do you enjoy? Which do you not or reject?

The... Regular?  As long as it doesn't bleed orange and doesn't require ten seconds of scrolling and four clicks I don't care.

Monetary

20.  What kinds of business models do you prefer? Which do you dislike/reject?

I prefer full paid/paid subscription.  I dislike most F2P models because they are inherent cash traps you can't back out of nor do they usually have the backing of real development teams.  Not that many of them are left.

21.  What makes you want to spend real money on this game (if applicable)?

Quality of service, quality of content, reasonable up to date support and commitment by staff to provide an excellent client experience.

22.  How much money do you spend on games a year? How is this split between things such as game copies, microtransactions, and DLC, and why?

I do not have a budget or clear spending resource but Warframe alone can get $80-300 in a year depending on plat needs or deals. Such as Prime Unvaults so I don't have to pay someone overpricing something in market, discounted plat sales, Jade skin packs.  I can buy up to four games new in a year or zero, and I play another F2P game where I can budget in MTs if it's worth it.

Motivation

23.  Why do you play games?  (Escape, learning, socializing, fulfilling a fantasy, etc.)

I dislike calling fantasy experiences "escapes" because I am cognicent of my body control almost always.  Even in a roleplaying aspect I put forth ideas as myself but in that place rather than just the norm unless otherwise or my current thought logistic in that body.  My social capacity is limited because many of my games have poor social networking in game (not mmos, wf server pop cuts).  I started young and gaming is just my thing.

24.  What drives and motivates you to keep playing a game once you’ve started? Is it always the same?

It changes, lately it's mindless grindfests but usually it's a player experience: you get a waifu, you saved the world, you eradicate the rats called humanity.

25.  What things get you excited to play a game? (Certain types of gameplay, graphics, multiplayer, campaigns, etc.)

Crossbows.  I love crossbows.

Roleplaying elements based on story decision and player immersion.  Not that feux crap of changing your hair and wearing different gear pretending, being involved in the side guilds (Syndicates suck) and factions and helping out or burning the world.

26.  Do you like to chase achievements?

No.  Let me be plain, they're coddling points MS and Sony used to measure game use and otherwise milestones are redundant unless you have no reason to play.  This is not the same as kill counts and score kedoing.

27.  Do you like to pursue cheats and/or ‘easter eggs’? If so, what kinds?

Nudity, wall jumping, out of zone regions, broken rooms and unfinished content.

Playstyle

28.  What kind of personality and behavioral characteristics do you have when playing games? (Good/evil, bold/stealthy, tactical/tinkerer, want variation/sameness, like challenge/ease, etc.)

Lawful neutral/neutral evil ranged tank characters who either can focus attrition or blindly endure problems.

29.  Do you prefer single-player or multiplayer experiences?

Yes but the caveat is it has to fit the game.  Multiplayer ruined Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Dark Souls where as multiplayer is why I stayed on ACFA until I hit #8 on the ranked leaderboard for several months.

30.  Do you prefer competitive or cooperative experiences? What role do you prefer in the latter? This may include any of the following, or your own;

I prefer cooperative but I am heavy on competitive.  I had to force myself out of that because it ruined my gaming.

o   Tactical, stealth, or otherwise melee fighter.

o   Tactical, stealth, or otherwise ranged fighter.

o   Scout, healer, amplifier, re-energizer, or other support roles.

o   Squad leader, orchestrator, or tactician.

Tank, ranged combat usually, and support healers or Necromancer/summoner roles.  I generally fill in the lines because my tactical thinking falls behind rage.

Preferences

31.  Are you a casual, midcore, hardcore, professional gamer, and/or a fanboy enthusiast? Is this your typical gaming mentality?

I range from midcore to hardcore.  I don't do professional because I don't play mainstream games. (WF is sponsored but it's not MS)

32.  What kinds of game experiences do you play? How often do you play each of these?

Completion or memorable.

I dropped a proton bomb from a TIE bomber into a B-Wing trying to board my Star Destroyer once.  I nearly died in the explosion and the B-wing player stopped trying to play with me.

33.  What kinds of goals and win conditions do you enjoy?

Gratifying kills on my terms, surviving odds lesser people die in.

34.  What kinds of challenges do you enjoy for this type of game? What kinds do you not?

Being able to tank, being able to sweep mobs, being able to keep teammates alive.

Arbitrary inflation runs where you spend over an hour pissing two attack spam or overpowered gear to chip away at health pools.

35.  What kinds of activities do you enjoy? What kinds do you not?

I enjoy target shooting and sleeping.  I dislike waking up on Mondays.

36.  What kinds of fail states do you enjoy? Which do you not?

I accept close and even losses, I can be sore about losing but I hate losing to cheese justified by weak minds who lost the meaning of sporting gratuity, honor, and chivalry.

37.  What pace do you prefer in this genre?

Medium to fast pace.  Grinding is boring so I prefer faster enemies but I despise the ludicrous speed of Conclave.

38.  What kinds of choices you find interesting and engaging?

Moral ambiguity when done correctly is both artistically gratifying and yet stupidly real.  The world isn't pretty and neither are choices involving characters and lives.

39.  To what extent do you prefer skill- or chance-based games?

Define skill games, since user equipment isn't skill based.  Chance games annoy me, I have a permanent Luck roll of 1.

40.  What things in this genre do you find enjoyable, engaging, interesting, or challenging?

At this rate getting competent teams is the most difficult thing in Warframe.  I enjoy customization in weapons and gear, as well as fashion.

41.  What in this genre do you dislike, find frustrating/irritating, avoid, or quit because of?

The practical imbalance of WF, Armored Warfare, etc annoys me because of the same reason why I dislike games that emphasize most common denominator as well as player to gear choices and coddling.  The current stagnation caused by power creep from developers catering to groups of players is actively encouraged by them.

42.  What things (such as complexity or controls) in this genre are ‘OK’ if they’re low quality?

They're not okay, and ignoring them by not using them or only dealing with them once doesn't negate that.

43.  What things will you NOT tolerate in this genre if they’re low quality?

Controls, plot, internal balance, story limitations, tertiary mechanics.

44.  What is your preferred difficulty level? How much is ‘too much’, ‘OK but not enjoyable’ and ‘too easy’ for you?

It depends on the game, I usually prefer normal for story or for a game I get into I prefer the hardest difficulty to offset mods or broken characters to justify difficulty in the first place.

45.  What is your preferred complexity level? How much is ‘too much’, ‘OK but not enjoyable’, and ‘too easy’ for you?

I prefer above average complexity, but not damnation puzzles in shooters and not mindless mobs that barely move two feet to cover where you mow them down.  I like balance.

46.  What kind of gameplay progression do you prefer in this kind of game? (Slow with an easy ramp-up, or more challenging and abrupt?).

I prefer smooth starts followed by progressive difficulty.  Sharp challenges should have a purpose.

47.  What level of intensity/pace do you enjoy in game experiences? Is it always the same?

I prefer a mix, but Killing Floor survival needs to be chaotic while patrolling the Mojave wishing for nuclear winter should be clear.

48.  What are your expectations for gameplay quality for games in this genre?

Not high, but I'm overly critical of the gaming industry in general.

49.  What are your expectations for graphics quality in this genre?

If it's on a console I expect them to be what they are on a normal engine.  Not using the same one like Bethesda for a decade but not scrapping features for gunplay like Bethesda.

50.  Do you enjoy pausing and/or progress saves? If so, to what degree/how often?

Yes actually, I grew up playing Morrowind so saving every other minute with open windows was needed.

51.  Do you prefer customization or ‘out of the box’? If you enjoy customization, what do you find the most important and/or enjoyable?

I prefer heavy customization for the reality of you expressing yourself and other features.  People forgot that pitch dark frames and craft are harder to spot in night conditions.

52.  Do you prefer realistic stylization of gameplay action and visuals? If so, such as what?

I prefer realism to suspense of disbelief but I still like magic and monsters and giant robots.

53.  Do you enjoy story in games not at all, only if it’s interactive, or all the time?

All the time, Warframes lack of story is the most dissapointing thing about it while The Witcher 3's (while rushed and heavy handed) is the best thing about it.

54.  What types of emotional styles and tones do you enjoy in games?

Dark, gritty, the turning points of eras and where the universe looks at you either down from the stars or the veiled cracks in the wall watching you asking why.  Warframe is too childish and mild for a game where you play as amnesiac war proxies that toppled an empire and left humanity to die.

55.  What art styles do you enjoy in games? Which do you reject?

Realistic, dark, retro fantasy combining plausible scifi or real-fantasy hybrids.

56.  What audio styles/control do you enjoy in games?

Gothic and soprano music or metal, basic controls or advanced movement.  Half of the AC community looks at me funny when I say Type A instead of Type B.

o   Squad leader, orchestrator, or tactician.

Preferences

31.  Are you a casual, midcore, hardcore, professional gamer, and/or a fanboy enthusiast? Is this your typical gaming mentality?

Painful RNG, and the overall repetitiveness of the missions when having to grind.

42.  What things (such as complexity or controls) in this genre are ‘OK’ if they’re low quality?

Can you provide more examples of "things"? What is low quality? Is pressing 'E' over and over for quick melee considered low quality? I think that's fine.

43.  What things will you NOT tolerate in this genre if they’re low quality?

See above. Um....customization?

44.  What is your preferred difficulty level? How much is ‘too much’, ‘OK but not enjoyable’ and ‘too easy’ for you?

I mean....anything in the star chart is generally "too easy" for me as I have good weapons. Anything that forces me to stop and wait (timer, invulnerability, etc.) is not enjoyable.

45.  What is your preferred complexity level? How much is ‘too much’, ‘OK but not enjoyable’, and ‘too easy’ for you?

Can you better define what you consider the difference between "complex" and "difficult" is? Are you referring to complex UI, or inputs? I think a lot of the melee combos right now are too complex for be to bother trying to actively achieve.

51.  Do you prefer customization or ‘out of the box’? If you enjoy customization, what do you find the most important and/or enjoyable?

CUSTOMIZATION. Character customization is the most important for me. I live without everything else, but if I can't create my own character, I'm out.

52.  Do you prefer realistic stylization of gameplay action and visuals? If so, such as what?

I don't mind either way.

53.  Do you enjoy story in games not at all, only if it’s interactive, or all the time?

I am generally more drawn to a game if the story or world seems interesting.

54.  What types of emotional styles and tones do you enjoy in games?

I enjoy a wide variety. I tend to avoid things that are very sad.

55.  What art styles do you enjoy in games? Which do you reject?

I reject chibi and loli. And most anime styles tbh. Just not my thing.

56.  What audio styles/control do you enjoy in games?

Anything that's not to high-pitched or grating.

Just gonna say, that I think having this open-ended question style is going to leave you with answers that are far too vague to come up with any concrete data. I think some of your questions were too vague, and used language that I wasn't too certain I understood within the game design context. I think formulating your questions into yes/no questions, or "pick what you like from the following" questions, or providing more examples would have been useful. For example:

1. Do you prefer customization or "out of the box"? Answer: o customization, o out of the box

2. Pick 3 of the things from the list below you enjoy the most from customization. Answer: o character, o: operator, o: weapons, o: landing craft, etc.

Idk how important this survey is for your project and I may be taking this too seriously lol. I used to have to do a lot of research projects for school and making surveys was a big part of that. Just re-formulating your questions and uploading it to Survey Monkey or something might be easier for you to decipher! Anyway, good luck with your project!!! 🙂

I think you might get better overall response if you made your questions into a more anonymous format.  I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm not willing to put the answers to most of you questions anywhere near a public forum.

*edit*  I also think that you might want to provide possible examples of some of your questions.  Skimming over them, I have no idea what you're asking in a couple of cases.
