Psychic Wave - 50 power, replacement for psychic bolts

 

A mind-numbing wave of psychic energy eminates from Nyx, staggering all enemies within 10/20/30 M for 0.7/1/1.3 seconds, and leaving them totally defenseless. During the stagger, affected enemies are marked with an identifying holographic image, and recieve 2x damage from all sources.

 

Psychic Wave is a versatile defensive and offensive ability which affords Nyx more options on the battlefield. It casts nearly instantly with a less than .25 second animation and can be cast in air.

 

Defensively, it provides Nyx or her teamates a short window to escape, revive a fallen ally or protect a pod in jepoardy. It can be used repeatedly as a very expensive crowd control tool to pacify a crowd (for a much higher cost per second than bastille, with less flexibiltiy as it is centered on Nyx).

 

Offensively, it is too short of a duration to compete with Nova/Banshee's damage amplification abilities. However, it will allow for the quick takedown of a single dangerous enemy. More importantly, a well played Nyx can use Psychic Wave pre-emptively to greatly boost the damage enemies receive from other Ultimates, such as Rhino Stomp or Molecular Prime. Clever frames will work in tandem with Nyx's Psychic Wave to enhance their own damage.

Not a fan. Seems pointless. Why would ANYONE ever use this? If you need enemies to stop, you can cast chaos. If you're under attack, you can cast absorb. This doesn't do anything meaningful or different from other skills Nyx already has.

 

Psychic bolts can be used to attack targets where chaos, mind control, and absorb aren't useful(for example, raptor), can be effective in blocking/stopping/interrupting an enemy's shield regen,

 

It's nice that they actually have an attack skill, and trading it out for a rehash of some other skill like sonic boom(only more expensive) makes NO sense.

The mere chance of hitting enemies in the very short window created by a 1.3s intervall is not worth 50 energy at all. Chaos stuns for 2s and converts enemies for 25s, meaning uninterrupted fire the whole time. I can not think of any situation at all, where I'd ever want to use this over chaos for it's cc.

The damage amplification sounds decent in theory, but would require such extremely well coordinated play that in practice, it would be always better to just pack another aoe.

not sure if you guys noticed but Chaos is on a 'timer' and can't be cast again if still in use. This works WITH chaos in between casts, and also on the run when chaos is overkill, AND also lets you help nukers instead of being over-written by them.

 

here are 3 very common situations when you'd use Psychic Wave instead of chaos:

 

1) You've already used Chaos...and new mobs are swarming your group/pod etc. You can't cast again, because 'power in use'. I agree that allowing chain Chaos casting would be OP. So you use Psychic Wave for a quick 2s+ second break (w continuity etc) to reposition/kill/escape/save pod/finish reviving etc. This situation should be familliar to every Nyx player.

 

2) You encounter a large group of mostly trash mobs with an elite or two before your team arrives, and if you were any other frame you'd hit 4 to thin the herd. Hitting 3 however is supreme overkill as these mobs will be slaughtered by the nova/ember/saryn 15 meters behind you. So you instead hit 2, which CC's the mobs for a second until the nuker arrives, and when they hit 4 EVERYONE DIES, not just the trash.

 

You don't need to coordinate. It's pretty obvious when nova/rhino is going to nuke, which is why volt/mag always complain, everyone nukes when there's a cluster. Now Nyx would have something to contribute to that, as opposed to having her hard work simply vaporized.

 

3) You turn a corner and a lv 90 heavy gunner and 2 light buddies are bearing down on you. You could use Chaos, sure, but instead you use Psychic Wave which allows you to shred him in half the time, all the while having no reprocussions from his friends. Now you have 25 more energy and you don't have to worry abt your chaos hitting some mob 2 rooms away, and stopping you from re-casting when you need it.

 

and a bonus 4) You have a semi competent nuker in your group. When you Psychic Wave mobs they will reel and have a unique 'psychic wave' hologram above their heads. Anyone with a brain will use this time to hit 4.
