Can't see fishing hotspots

I need to farm cuthol to advance to the next level with the ostron. From what I've read they appear in hotspots in ponds during the night with cuthol bait.

The problem is I'm not seeing the hotspots. When I aim with the fishing spear I can hear the bubbles but the visual effect doesn't appear on the water so I can't tell where they are. I've watched a number of videos showing how to farm Cuthol and in every one they just went to a pond and within seconds there were multiple hotspots appearing. I've spent two whole nights going to the same ponds but I don't see them?

Could this be something to do with my video settings? I have everything set to max, the only thing I turned off is motion blur.

nah, the hotspots arent always there, you have to search the shore or the ponds and look for areas with ripples in the water, that's the hotspots. The sound of the bubbles is just some fish spawning.
