Nightwave: Weekly PoE Bounty challenge is WAAAAYY too long

I'm not sure if players share weekly challenges with each other, but I have a "Complete Bounties on the Plains of Eidolon: x/8" weekly mission.
I thought the counter would increase for each stage of a bounty-- but nope, it actually goes up (by 1) upon completion of an entire multistage bounty. The weekly challenge demands 8 of them.

THE PROBLEM: This takes an obscene amount of time, and is not at all in line with the other Weekly challenge requirements.

  • If a player takes the lowest-leveled Bounty available, and they're some wacky speedster who can complete it from start to finish in 5 minutes, then it'll take >40 minutes of monotonous low-level bounty-spamming just to complete this one challenge.
  • If a player takes the highest-leveled Bounty available (because they're like me and they enjoy the slightest hint of a challenge), where a fast player is lucky to finish within 10 minutes... then it'll take >80 minutes of monotonous bounty-spamming just to complete this one challenge.

Compare this to the "Complete 3 Sanctuary Onslaught waves" weekly, which takes all of 10 minutes, or the "Kill 100 Eximus enemies" weekly, which can be done passively. A weekly challenge that takes more than 40 minutes to complete (and double that if the player wants remotely engaging gameplay) is just... not okay.

MY SUGGESTION: Change this challenge to either:

  • "Complete Incursions on the Plains of Eidolon: x/8" (including bounty stages, from both Konzu and Sorties), or
  • "Complete Bounties on the Plains of Eidolon: x/2".

It's a weekly challenge.....

Just spread out the number you need to do, evenly, to how many days ares left. Just don't do it at the last minute like a school project/homework. The need to complete something in a short amount of time (when there's plenty of time) rather than spreading it evenly between now and the deadline is really irrational.

It's a weekly chore.

Doing bounties for 40 minutes is time-consuming and not fun. Doing bounties for 40 minutes with breaks in between is still time-consuming and not fun. The fact that we'll have to do this potentially once a week is just... ugh. And for time-gated rewards, at that.

In terms of time demand and player engagement, I expect a weekly challenge to be consistent with the other weekly challenges. The other weeklies that we have tend to be fast and/or fun. But the PoE Bounties one takes a stupidly long amount of time, and this monotony that it creates is part of what makes it so unfun.

I would like to see the number we have to do scale with difficulty. We have to do 8 tier 1, or 2 tier 5. That would at least reward people for doing harder ones. Aside from that, I agree.

The real problem for me is that we can't get new bounties on the plains like we can in orb vallis and must constantly return to cetus. Fortuna has been out for so long now and no one has thought to put an NPC near the Cetus gate for new bounties like they did for the Fortuna elevator.

while i mostly despise Earth Landscape Bounties since they're so extremely repetitive (and Venus Bounties made great strides to make them less incredibly boring to play) - idunno how i feel. Players would normally have a full week to play them, and that does mean that they could almost play one per day.
idunno. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

if it was Venus Bounties i'd be able to complete it in a day or two without wanting to die, but a week for Earth Bounties isn't the worst thing ever, i guess?

i would approve of this premise - higher Tier Bounties counting for more. so perhaps then, rather than number of Bounties, it could be 'Bounty Points'. can keep it simple and the Tiers 1-5 is 1-5 Points. and the target would be say, 15 Points?

additions like that will almost assuredly come when the rebuilding of the entire Earth Landscape with the new Tools that were made for the Venus Landscape, is finished and pushed out.

Yeah, that would be more logical. I just want to see it encouraging people to complete higher tiers. Having a linear increase would be far more logical than what I was suggesting.

hmm. (this could be applied to other Nightwave tasks as well, i guess? higher base Level Missions, Et Cetera could count for more towards some Weekly tasks)

This is my one major gripe with what I otherwise consider a really great addition to the game.

The other challenges are fairly quick and usually even give us some agency over what kind of mission / content we experience.

Thing is, I, and my friends I play with regularly, absolutely despise bounties and most things PoE, and we resent having it forced down our throats with stuff like this and awful riven challenges.

Bounties are easily the worst gaming experience I've had in my many years of gaming. It's basically just a sequence of really long mobile defence stages, minus having a level around you. It's just flat with enemies falling out the sky (if their dropships didn't just blow up as they appear). It's just so awful and tedious. Doing one bounty a year is a horrible chore, 8 a week?!

I don't know why DE wants to force us to do content we don't like, it's like they're trying to justify investing in the content by making us spend time in it. Worst idea ever, you don't add value to your game by forcing something players don't like on them.

Edit: to add a suggestion to my complaint, I'd be OK if this were like 10 bounty stages rather than complete bounties. I'm not going to enjoy it, but I can handle 2 tier 5 bounties or whatever a week, but I certainly don't have 2 hours to waste doing something I hate.

They should change it to 'any' Bounties (Orb Vallis or PoE).. the long, low level grind for no meaningful reward, means it is simply to tick off a Nightwave challenge.  I like to double up tasks when I can, for this one, there isnt any.

this whole new system is boring and forced!, some ppl need to stop being a FANBOY and start counting! this chores take at least 5 more time than fissure hunting in order to get same reward! u can easily farm 20p in fissure hunting for less than 30min, which can give u a catal or char slot or weapon slot! in fissure u have to get to RANK 6 in  order to get a catal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the issue was that this week chalenges didnt start with the full timer, so you didnt get 7 days to complete it.
With 7 days you can do 1 missions of 5min per day and 2 when you can, and got it done before the week ends without burning your eyes.

Anyways, i dont like repetitive missions, so taking at account that the other missions where a lot casual to do (i did a lot without noticing them) and shorter too (even the Trilodon fight should be done in less than 50minutes), i also think it should be, at least, cut in half and requiere 4 or count per objetive and not per bounty, so you can do the highest and avoid getting "Streamline" or "15 Iradite" and get a better improve while advancing in the quest at, almost, the same speed than equiping equinox and standing on the plains for 5min to finish the easiest one.

Yes, it is very clearly way too long. Do the maths. It's literally almost 10 times as long as the other challenges, except invasions, but still at least 4 times as long as that.

More importantly, this is by far the most boring, bland content the game has to offer. We also don't have a choice about mission type or location, and it gives zero rewards.

Maybe you really have nothing better to do, but I certainly don't have 1.5 hours of my valuable time to waste doing something I don't enjoy every week. I play games to have a break and have fun, not to rot my brain away with tedium.

PoE sucks, like really, really sucks. DE should work on improving it rather than forcing us to do it when we clearly want to avoid it. It's like they think we just need to be motivated to enjoy standing around a flat map waiting for the mission timer to expire. No. It's boring, it sucks. Nope.

How DARE DE make us PLAY the game to do challenges! THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS! really man? Dont start a thread on something easy.
Step 1: go to cetus talk to konzu
Step 2: pick the first bounty
step 3: rinse and repeat.

How you DARE to call "challenge" to do the first bounty?
That in part is the problem, the most efficient to acomplish this "challenge" is doing something who worths ANYTHING and, as i mentioned, you can do it just picking a full range equinox and steping on the points of the missions and wait till the next one pops.
The real challenge on that is the time you have to spent to do the 8 bountys, and i can see why some people see it wrong.

Almost every other challenge you could do it while trying to do something else, but i should check if any other was kindof "forced" to do something in the most boring way.

Its only as boring as you make it 😉

Good news then, low tier bounties take 4 minutes to complete for anybody isn't a potato.  You'll be done in 30 min.

I do think PoE bounties are incredibly boring too, but your time estimates are crazy exaggerated.

By the way - we also don't know that we get the same Acts every week... chances are next week will be all new ones...

No they do not. Just a single stage can take more than 3 minutes. Add to this the travel, loading screens, waiting for waypoints, selecting and launching missions etc. etc. and it's more like 10 minutes total. Even though you can do it quicker, that is still a more reasonable estimate of how much time you're actually going to spend doing this. However many minutes, it still feels like an eternity because it's so tedious. Repeating awful, boring, ultra easy, unrewarding content this many times should not be a thing, regardless of how long it takes.

(I do have a very fast PC. I also play Nova + Itzal. I used to speedrun raids and I often speedrun spy for relics in under 2 minutes).

If a single stage is taking you that long then it's l2p issues.  I just did this challenge tonight and was averaging 4 min an entire Bounty.  Sorry.  I can do the hardest ones in 10 min, but the easy peasy 1 star bounties?  they don't take longer than 5 min.

The only time you'll get longer than 4-5 min is if you're unlucky enough to have to open one of the armored vaults.  Otherwise half the objectives are 30 seconds lol... free the prisoner... kill the capture target... kill the commander - those 3 are the most common at low levels and take seconds.

Or if you have to liberate an area.
Or if you have to escort a drone.
The chance of getting at least one of these three "stupid long unavoidable timers" missions is pretty high, and getting a single one has bumped my mission timer to ~6min pretty consistently. The whole challenge took a little over 40 minutes for me to complete (and would easily take ~1.5 hours if I had opted for the max leveled bounties), and as a person with a full time job and full time responsibilities, that's 40 minutes (or ~1.5 hours) of my life that I'll never get back.

Even by your lowest "4 minutes to complete for anybody isn't a potato" estimate, that still doesn't change the fact that this bounty is still >3x longer than most of the others if you're playing optimally... AND, unlike the other challenges, you need to play the low-leveled crap (i.e. be bored out of your mind) in order to reach "optimal" gameplay.

This is about as engaging (and rewarding) as staring at a wall for 40 minutes. Tell me, if DE had actually made the challenge "stare at a wall for 40 minutes", would you still be defending that?

LIberarting an area and escorting drones takes 30 seconds to a minute lol it's the difference between a 4 min bounty and a 5 min bounty which cumulatively adds to like 10 extra min at best across all 8, assuming you really drag it out... therefore you're crying over a 10 min difference, I said 30 min, you say 40... by the way 40 minutes isn't ~1.5 hours... unless you live in a world where hours are 25 min long.  If you can't get that time back... don't play games?  Don't know why you're so fussed about it.  1 Tridolon cap takes about as long... collecting and slotting 5 ayatans takes WAY longer... 8 invasions takes about just as long.... I mean there's several challenges about the same length.... but you do realize you don't have to do every single Act right?  Steve already said you only need to do about 60% of them throughout the season to reach Rank 30 anyway.  You can skip a few if you don't have time.  Expecting them all to be 10 min long is asinine.

I don't know why you guys deny reality in order to cry on the forums.  I was doing them last night in ~4 min, the end of mission timer even said so.  That's fact and reality.
