(Mega Suggestions) Dojo As Lobby; Armory, Hangar And Personal Quarters.

I'm really surprised this hasn't happened already. It was heavily implied by even the Alpha login menu. Really waiting for the command room and personal rooms where we can show off warframes in glass cases and weapons on the walls.

I had something planned for weapons, but I don't think we could shiwcase organic armor...wouldn't fit in lore-wise.

So I let this soak in for a bit and have what I think would be realistic compromises that would get us a more immersive and full experience, not kill off the dojo that so many of us worked so hard on and still work on DE's existing p2p set up.

First is the log in. Keep it the same with the simple change that when you click to go to the dojo the animation will be exactly like when you stand to go into the arsenal, only this time the hologram fades and the lights come up to show you in a Navigation Room in the dojo. If you aren't in a clan the room looks cramped and it turns out you are on a very small, non customizable vessel (extraction ship?) that has an arsenal, connection to the tenno market and a foundry.

If it is connected to a dojo it is much more spacious (but still not customizable. This way a new room doesn't have to be rendered for every dojo and it can be a backdrop that feel like part of a dojo). So when you hit the enter dojo button your tenno stands, lights come up and you walk out the door into your dojo.

Personal rooms: I think the personal rooms could totally work provided they were in fact rooms, not levels and they didn't physically exist. Basically it would work like this. You have a specific Barracks Elevator. When you enter, the door closes behind you and you push the button for your room. After a small loading cut you enter your personalized room with all your goodies and personal amenities. Here's what it looks like outside the door. You enter and the door shuts. Elevator sound happens and then the door opens to an empty elevator car for the next tenno to go to their room. In reality you were transported out of the dojo instance, but visually it will not feel like that to you or those observing. Since it will be a single room as well you can bring other tenno with you. This is why I mentioned the button to push for your room. When you hit that button you are telling the elevator to take all passengers in the car to your hosted room. Want to check out a friends room? Get in the elevator with him, he hits the button and you're in his room being hosted by him. This also prevents people from entering your room in your absence.

Well that's my 2 cents. I'm half asleep so if this doesn't make sense I apologize and will clarify tomorrow.

So, I guess this has been suggested before, but I think I'll put it up anyway.

I think the dojo could be used as the personal lobby for everyone. When you log in, you don't go to the star map, but instead, the dojo's main hall, or your personal room, if you have already built one. This is gonna be a long thread, so brace yourself and put your glasses on.

First, the acquisition of personal rooms. When you go to a terminal, you get an option to claim your own level/layer of you clan's Dojo for 100000 Credits.(moon clan, the price would scale, starting at 1000 for a Shadow clan.) These levels/layers would vary according to the clan's size. The number of available levels equals the member cap of the clan, like 10 available rooms for a Shadow clan and 1000 available rooms for a Moon clan. Every time the clan grows, more rooms become available. Once claimed, you can use any terminal in the Dojo to get to your room. More info below. One level of your clan's Dojo equals one personal quarter. You can build more rooms connected to your main(starting) room. These can either be (relatively) big rooms with high ceilings to practice parkour, or small, cosy rooms with only a Cryopod and an aquarium inside. Up to you.

Note that the costs for such things should be small, as they are only things you can see. Maybe they should only cost credits(?).

Here are the costs of the rooms for a Shadow and Moon Clan member. (Give me feedback on prices!)

-1000/100000 Credits for your first room

-Small Room extension: 500/7000 Credits(Place for 5 objects)

-Medium Room extension: 750/10000 Credits(Place for 8 objects)

-Large Room extension: 1000/15000 Credits(Place for 10 objects)

-Mega Room extension: 2000/30000 Credits(Place for either 15 objects, or a parkour room)

If you are not a member of a clan yet, you spawn inside a standard room which can NOT be customized.

"Where's that room?" I hear you think. Well, it's the Tenno's secret base, close to the sun. One of the last fully functional Orokin towers, where the Lotus resides. Nope, you cannot pay her a visit. Her room is locked. The tower is limited, there are a few standard things like the Armory and Hangar, but that's basically it.

If you want your own room, which you can customize, you gotta join a clan.

The room's style mirrors that of the Dojo by deafult, but can be changed at a cost of materials and time, like any other research project. Possible appearances could be Void(classic), Dojo,(Old or new) GrineerCorpus and Orokin Derelict. Each option requires different materials, like:

-1000-5000 Nano Spores and 500 Plastids per room for the Derelict appearance

-1000-5000 Ferrite and 500 Rubedo per room for the Grineer appearance

-1000-5000 Salvage and 500 Polymer Bundles per room for the Corpus appearance

I think you guys get the idea. Basically, 1-5k common and 500 uncommon materials of the corresponding faction.

Then comes your first chamber. First of all, you need to build your very personal Cryopod. It can later be moved into another room. It serves as a kind of bed/resting place.

You can also access more options of the main menu from the pod, like HUD customization(drag&drop) camera settings(cam position, distance, effects, etc.) and so on.

When you log out from inside your Cryopod, and log back in, you gain a "Rested" bonus(much like in Skyrim) that gets you a minor Affinity/Stamina boost of 10/15% for the next 1/2/3 hours. The Cryopod can either be in a vertical or horizontal position, and be customized in different ways, like style(Void or Standard), color and possibly more.

Here is an example what it looks like when you enter it.

2u8bc3p.jpg

The second thing you can build in your room(s) is a teleporter. Now don't get me wrong, and let me explain it before you guys get mad. It'd be a small terminal, which is connected to the main rooms of the Dojo, and can be connected to other terminals across it. (i.e. a gate between your room and that of your best friend, or the dueling room.)

It uses the same technique as the Tenno when they capture a target in their missions. It breaks you down into atoms, and transports them to another terminal, where you are "put back together". There would be no need to build a new room in the Dojo's, as this would use the same terminals as you use to break down a room. I think this way, the terminals would get some use.

Once you have built these things, the rest is up to you. You can build aquariums, small gardens, statues, weapon racks and whatever the hell you can imagine.

Then comes my second suggestion. The Hangar. This would basically replace the old star map system, and be free in every dojo. The Hangar is the biggest room of the Dojo.  It would contain a bar where everyone can sit down and enjoy a drink(the mask of your warframe opens up at the mouth section, no face design is needed!) before entering a mission, and a map, which is the star map almost identical as how we know it now, with a few changes.

Here's the bar.

PlayStation28R29Home_Picture_26-7-2012_1

And here is an example of how the Star Map could look like.

prometheus-map-070312.jpg

You could select a mission by looking at a planet(some are actually moons, but never mind that), and press left mouse button on the mission you want to do, or:

This whole thing could be one map like this(imagine it with planets):

Warroom2.JPG

And you could just click on the mission as it is now(except that this would be a bloody red and awesome looking way of doing so)

Of course, the arsenal, options, foundry, contacts tab would be removed, so only the map and the chat remain. Once you selected a mission, you'd get to see a five-to-ten second cutscene where you and your squad enter a Manta(the escort ship you see at the extraction points) and fly away from the hangar. The same way, when finished with a mission with your clan-mates, you'd see a "reverse" cutscene where you enter the Hangar, exit the Manta and walk into the bar. Every Warframe would have a unique way of walking. (i.e. Loki walks as if he's weightless, Saryn like a lady, Excalibur would be swinging his melee weapon, Ember would leave fiery footsteps and Rhino would walk slowly)

I thought of something like this, only bigger(wider?).

star-wars-battlefront-ii-200505240428536

Last but not least comes the Armory. Free as well. This would yet be another room, and it would replace the Foundry and Arsenal as it is now. Here, you can do everything you could do in the places mentioned above, but with a few extras. Like, when you finish building a new weapon. You open up a locker(see pic) and take out the weapon, maybe give the melee a few swings, or aim with the new gun. Building of a Vasto finished? You take it out, roll it a few times on your finger like a badass cowboy and put it in its holster. That locker is basically the foundry, you insert the materials and it puts them together into a weapon/key/whatever. "Rushing" something would be overcharging the machine, which would explain the building process as it is now. After a rush, the machine would need to cool down, and you wouldn't be able to start another project for a few minutes(say 10).

Imagine this. but built in a wall and approximately 2 meters wide and 1 meter high.

TL;DR: Read the whole thing before you comment.

Well, this is it, please, take your time to leave a comment, or tell how you think about it. I'm more than open for suggestions.

EDIT Nr1: As Nautilus105 suggested, we should have portals to travel between other clans' Dojos.

EDIT Nr2: Added smaller notes, made minor adjustments, added price to making rooms/extensions and a picture of the Hangar. Changed costs of room customization.

EDIT Nr3: Added more pictures.

i really didnt read your post, but if de would add personal quarters that you could build yourself and invite friends/squade mats. this would give me some determination to grind a bunch.

Basically it would be like this: You log in and your warframe is kneeling over the star map. Now as it is when you click on the arsenal button, your warframe moves into a standing position. This is the same animation that would be used when you click the proposed dojo button. The difference is that instead of menus sliding in front of the warframe, a room appears behind him and you see that the starmap is just a hologram in a navigation room at the dojo. This is how you enter. I can't really be any clearer without illustration of some type and I don't have time to do that today.

So basically the login screen remains the exact same, but when you click anything like foundry or dojo, the whole thing reveals itself to be a hologram and you walk outta the hangar...which is...an awesome idea. +1 :D

Exactly. It would allow DE to essentially keep the current map set up while integrating it into a nice immersive dojo set up.

My god. I was going on the forums just now to write something JUST like this. What I want most is the ability to build a personal room which you can plan and decorate however you want. Really something I think would be cool. Player housing is always nice. Also, I really like the idea of adding more rooms to the dojo: not just decorative ones, but functional ones as well. A place to hang out like a bar would be great, and adding interaction options inside of rooms. For example if you have a bar room, there might be an option to sit down on one of the stools (naturally with the x button). After you sit down you might get the option of getting a drink. Also, adding some furniture to the dojo might be nice, like maybe some sofas, chairs, tables, etc. There is an issue I wanted to adress about the two clashing art styles in the dojo. There are completely sci-fi looking rooms like all of the clan halls, dueling room, hallways, elevators, and barracks. When I look through the selection of decorations at my disposal with which I can "spice up" some boring, empty rooms (*cough cough cough* clan hall *cough cough*), i come across some rocks, more rocks, wooden totems, and rouck fountains, which don't seem to match the room's style. the only room they seem to fit into is the zen garden. i realized that the issue may be solved by making all of the dojo's floors, get this, made of earth, grass, and stone pathways. Also, it may be nice to add some organic elements to the walls and ceiling like the orokin tentacle trees (whatever they.re called). That way, there will be no conflict between the completely sci-fi rooms and all of the completely traditional eastern decorations. Also, having some wall designs might be nice, either as a built in element or a possible decoration. I got this idea by watching the concept art livestream where i saw one dojo concept that i really enjoyed. The devs need to give the dojo some more love (and functionality).   :3

I still don't get why so many people want this, yet not even a single clue that DE ever noticed it. This needs to happen people, same as with dedicated servers to replace the silly NAT system.

Scott said in a livestream that player homes/rooms would be available if enough people wanted them.

I only skimmed the OP, but I really do want player homes... I don't want to make switching clans ruin my room though, it should be available if you're not in a clan at all.

Hmm...your own little floating station in the outer rims...maybe a small orokin tower?

Nazgul I like the Idea of own personal room, Great idea. If you have a lot of people in your clan I could see that having to be a huge room with a lot of doors hahaha. I like the concepts though instead of a Arsenal page you have a room you could walk in, I dont know if any of you have played AC3 or any of the Assassins Creeds but how you have your Den and all your weapons and outfits are on display and a section of the room for the foundry would be awesome!

A cryopod for every frame you have and weapon displays!!

Why do you need a cryopod for an unused frame? A clothes-rack would be enough ...

this idea, while great, can never work since DE does not have any servers. they have to rely on a host running the dojo at all times,

Actually, DE does have servers. (see here, for example). What do you think how they deploy updates, where they store a copy of each dojo, your personal data, this forum ...

It probably takes some work on the code, but they might even be able to give people the option to host their clan's dojo on their own server. Every donation to a room would have to pass DE's server, so you can't exploit it, but it might be doable.

1) The "Tenno" you play is only 'part' of the organism that inhabits a Warframe. So an 'empty' Warframe, still has organic-cybernetics installed. And this would need to be held in stasis. (Actually I'm just assuming all this, but I mean, Why ELSE do you think you can swap genders between frames? It's gotta be that only the brain case is moved between frames, or even the Tenno might only be Software?!)

2) OK, Unlike other MMO's there is no central host for the game loop. There IS however a persistent database on the SQL servers. This hosts the Account data and and Dojo settings. But they don't actually host the gameplay. Gameplay is hosted on the User's PC and serves P2P with the other user clients. Ergo, the first player to enter an Empty dojo downloads the Dojo settings and Serves the Map as Host. Any subsequent players that enter the Dojo will join the host's session. This is also evidenced by when the Host for the Dojo exits, the Host Migration event is called.

Actually, the Tenno are humanoids, and when you switch Warframes, you actually switch to another Tenno.

BUT.

The Warframes are not much more than their name says-frames. You, as Tenno, posess most of the power, and the frames just help you to use it accordingly.

Think of it as Mana. You have tons of it, but don't know any spells. When you equip a Warframe, you gain access to 4 "spells".

Well, that's how I THINK it goes. Not sure though.

@holyicon:

1) Well, that's your opinion. Mine has more with Nazgul999 in common. And unless DE tells us more about the background-story of the Tenno, well, we'll have to live with that. (But that's something to discuss in a completely different thread ...)

2) Guess what: I knew all of that already. I was just answering to CrystalTree saying, that DE has no servers at all.

Yes I like this. I really love this game and if you guys want to have a large focus on the clans in it, then the clan dojo REALLY needs to have to be focused on as well. It's central to large clans and atm the dojos are not fun to be in AT ALL. Even with planning from my clan leaders. the dojo is horrible to navigate in and nothing helps to signify directions of anything since everything looks the same (ie, halls, corridors). Even if anything of what the thread is suggesting is implemented at least give us more practical customization to our dojos. If you want to keep 1k+ players interested in their clan dojo, we need something else to interest us in the labyrinth of same looking corridors and halls.

If that's the case, I dunno if I like what the implication is when you build and sell frames. o.O;;

1) My opinion ... no, it's my assumption. Just a guess I'm making and it's no more valid than anybody else's. Have a little sense of humor would ya -^ hehe.

2) I'm actually just expanding on your comment here, but clarifying the actual mechanics of why a player wouldn't need to (not that they ever should) host the Dojo database/settings and how DE get's around needing to host in-game sessions (even when it comes to the Dojo).

^^ It's all good.
