Nightwave Kill Enemies with Melee not counting Whipclaw Melee kills

So Not sure if oversight or intentional but Whipclaw kills count as melee as far as the game breakdown is concerned however they do not appear to register as melee with respect to the "kill 150 enemies with melee" challenge. It seems a bit inconsistent.
