A little advice before using your Umbra Forma

I'm pretty sure there might be some players that already own one of these, next week if i'm lucky enough i'll have mine as well and i've been thinking on giving some tips before using the Umbra Forma without leaving you regretting your decision.

  • Do not use it on normal Warframes that have upcoming Primes (or they already have, but vaulted)

Or at least try not to, because of the simple reason that they'll become prime eventually, and we know that Primes are direct stats upgrades, so it would be a waste, trust me it hurts to not use it on your favorite frame, i want to use it on Khora because she's my main, but when she becomes Prime i would end up regretting doing it.

And if you use it on your original Warframe that has a Prime variant, you'll end up regretting it because you didn't wait for the vault, or for a nice offer (Ash, Valkyr and Saryn for example)

Edit: To make you guys an idea, Prime warframes apparently release on a cycle, 2 males - 2 females. so if you want to see when your favorite warframe might be Primed, check this list: https://warframe.fandom.com/wiki/Warframes_Comparison/Release_Dates#Original

By clicking on release date you'll see when every warframe was released, so following the 2 females and 2 males cycle, the next upcoming primes will be; Atlas, Wukong, Ivara and Titania. If you like any of these 4 frames, consider saving your Umbra Formas until they release, hopefully by the end of the year we'll have Ivara Prime at the least.

And if your favorite warframe seems too far away from being released as a Prime, then i guess you have your right to use your Umbra forma on it, but i would always recommend you to think twice before doing it, since is irreversible.

  • Use it on Warframes that can benefit from all 3 umbra mods

You may be asking why? because let me give you a little example, I put an Umbra Forma on Nyx or Banshee, and i can put all 3 mods on them, but they are so squishy, they don't have any armor so the only thing they could benefit from is the Intensify and Vitality, Feber would be just a filler.

Or Inaros for example, i mean... Inaros seems like a good choice but it would be better to wait for his Prime variant, not only that but Inaros has that little tank inconsistency, extremely tanky, but strength on Inaros just... doesn't work, he's more for CC.

Rhino for example, at most he can benefit from Intensify and Fiber, but Vitality will be like a filler on your kit just for an extra 10%.

Ash, Atlas, Chroma, Equinox, Mesa and Valkyr for example can benefit from the 3 umbra mods because they need (and have) strength, armor and health.

Edit: I was also suggesting this because most of the Warframes that only need Intensify and Vitality can be easily builded with just normal Formas, while trying to fit all three Umbral mods might let you struggling trying to build your warframe (for example my Valkyr has all 3 Umbral but not full, and it's painful to build her, while my Nova with Intensify and Vitality doesn't have trouble at all).

  • (optional) Do not use it on Volt and Mag

I love these 2 so don't think that i'm saying it for hating purposes. the only one i hate is excalibur

It's just that i've been thinking that Volt and Mag may be the only two frames that have a Umbra variant, it would make sense to have only the 3 starters as sentient killer right? We started with one of these 3, and we get our reward, having them as a stronger Umbra variant, and that means that they'll come with their own Umbra polaritys.

Not only that but armor doesn't work on Mag, and Volt is more of a shield frame instead of a health one so yeah.

  • Umbra formas take up to 3 months to farm, take your time before using it to not waste those 3 months of effort

And i think that would be it, if you guys have any other suggestions i would like to read them, it's always good to have some extra advices.

Prolly won't use any Umbra Forma for a year because they're all R9 in order to fit in various builds.

Upgrading any of the them to R10 will ruin multiple builds on multiple frames.

It's a pretty awful process so far with 5 Umbra Forma a year yet 4 non-Prime + 4 Prime frames a year.

Think a new frame is awesome? Get ready to wait 3 years for the Prime.

For the first point I feel it depends on what frame you want to put it on really. Mostly because the assumption would be we get a forma ever 10 weeks or so assuming each nightwave is back to back. This means 5 umbral forma every year. Some frames wont be getting primes for yeeeears. I want to put it on garuda or nidus but the former wont get a prime until 2022 most likely and the other is still quite a ways off, like a full year probably. You mention khora but by the time you get a khora prime you 10 more umbral forma probably came and went.

Even on nidus I wouldnt mine putting an umbral forma on him if it means I get a little breathing room for even 6 whole months because at that point it would have made up its cost. Not like you need all 3 umbral mods to have a polarity anyways to make things work.

Just so you know, I'm using it on Mag now, just because of this.

When I get it tomorrow or sometime this week, I'm definitely not using it right away. I think the best advice would be to hold on to it - at least until the next Nightwave season. If the Umbral forma is going to be an end reward every season, than they'll be fairly common. At least it will be reasonable to assume we will get regular, albeit infrequent access to them.

For me, I don't main Oberon but I do like using him. So he was one of my first choices. But I use Frost a LOT. And my Frost Prime build is an Umbral build. But so is my Oberon, and Oberon benefits from Strength mods more than Frost does. So I'm a little stuck between these two, but I'm leaning towards Oberon. Not sure tho.

This is why I'm waiting.

if "umbra" frames are going to be a thing.. which I hope not.

DE talked about this already.
They want to release more Umbra Frames. They don't know how yet (story related or not). And they said that Umbra won't be another Prime. So not every Frame will get an Umbra.
Worrying about Umbra Frames is pointless, because we could go another year or two before seeing the next Umbra...

That's very disappointing to hear.

Nope. They said Umbra like frames. Not Umbra frames.
