How big does this game have to get to have dedicated servers?

Right now, Warframe is beating out games like Team Fortress 2 and Garry's Mod in Steam player count. This obviously doesn't even take non-steam installs into account. This game has become massive, so why don't we have dedicated servers yet?

Right now, three of the four players in a squad are essentially playing an inferior version of the game, with graphical and even gameplay bugs that the host does not experience. For example, clients cannot see the links from the Eidolon Lures to the Eidolon. And then there is the issue of the host migration, which I don't feel I have to explain.

Warframe is up there at this point on the list of most popular online games in the world, but host migrations still exist. Why?

Conclave has dedicated server mechanics, I don't see why those can't be used in the main game

Volume would probably be one problem.  DE isn't the biggest company and I am not in anyway knowledgeable about what kinda infrastructure it would take to put in place a server farm big enough to handle the player base.  You can always try directing the enquiry @[DE]Steve and hoping he notices lol. The last I heard there were no plans for dedicated servers but you never know if a new cost effective tech option comes out plans could change.

We would all love to see an end to the dreaded host migration of DOOOOOOOM!

You answer it yourself. Having dedicated servers for such a massive game will hurt their wallet big time. That's why no dedicate servers.

Are you ready to have monthly fees? Because that's how you get monthly fees.

idk aside from Host/Client bugs, generally the P2P experience Warframe provides is the same or better than when hosted at some Datacenter.

"Dedicated Servers" is not a magic bullet. all networking models have pros and cons.

Not to mention the high cost of maintaining them. This is something most who bring up this topic seem to not understand.  😄

Maybe that's exactly why? Lots of players = lots of servers = lots of cost. Why pay extra for something that the game clearly doesn't need to be successful?

Sorry to say this, but it doesn't make much sense to switch the model. There's too much investment into how things currently work on the technical side for it to change.

However, there are player hosted dedicated servers for Conclave on PC already.  I think that model could make it to a small selection of specific missions if enough people ask for it, and enough people are willing to host for others. It was mentioned as a potential option for Trials back in the day.

costs is not even like, the top3 for complications, shrug

granted say, Monster Hunter World has some very nicely almost seamless Multiplayer, since it's Datacenter hosted. but, there's still a Party Leader, and so if the Leader D/C's, it will wait for like, up to seemingly 30 seconds on Timeout(so the entire game session is frozen for that time), so while Host Migrations technically don't happen, ultimately they still do :D

Everyone would have to start paying in to justify a dedicated server model just for starts.  We have far too many people that talk like platinum grows on trees and it's as easy to get as grabbing a prime part and finding some schmuck to buy it.  Problem is, that's platinum already in circulation, not entering the system.  Ergo, DE is pretty much making most of its money on whales buying plat and prime access packs.

So for now, the only dedicated servers in play are the ones hosting the relays and colonies.
