Name of the Gantulyst

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

The Gantulyst stands out for me as the only Eidolon that I can't understand the connection in the name. Examples:

Vomvalyst: Vomva being Greek for "Bomb", they are sort of suicide troops.

Teralyst: Carries a tree-like thing, trees are a common symbol of Earth, aka Terra.

Hydrolyst: Makes it rain, but not in the fun way.

Ropalolyst: Greek for "Bat", pretty self-explanatory.

But what does "Gantu" mean?

Assistance would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Immediately after posting this I thought to force Google Translate to put "Gauntu" in Greek instead of whatever language it was automatically doing, to find out it means "chaos", which I can understand with all the crap going on during the fight.

It's not the Eidolon "Gauntalyst" it's the Eidolon GANTalyst. You might be able to find your answer with the actual name.

In a Tridolon right now, I certainly see a "u" in there

You'd likely find something if you were writing it correctly.

It's "Gantulyst, not "Gauntalyst"

Gantu in Sanskrit means "Traveler" or "a course".

While you are correct about the spelling, having only one out of the five names not be Greek would be very strange, and "traveler" doesn't really fit.

I don't really care what's the reasoning behind their names. What fascinates me is the ability of people to mispronounce things that are straight up written in-game for them.

I always thought of it as Giant without the i. It IS the first giant eidolon you encounter after the Teralyst, after all

You're misreading. There is most definitely no U in the first half of Gantulyst. It's on the wiki, it's on the drop tables, it's everywhere. It's not Gauntalyst.

First half yes, I have the dumb, but there is certainly one U in there, which was not in your original post.

This is why I don't bother with the official names. I just use Basiclyst, Laserlyst, and Lightninglyst

Oh, and also Tinylyst

Probably based off of the words "garGANTUan" or "giGANTic" because its basically just a big Teralyst.
