Plains of Eidolon Rewards

A little disclaimer before anything, I am a new player. My experience with the game is way lower, and some things might not be of my awareness. If anything I say falls in this range of inexperience, please explain it to me, so I can construct better feedback.

TL;DR: Rewards from Eidolons and Sentients are not saved; Headed into a mission, a host disconnection happened at extraction and I lost all my rewards from beating the Teralyst and surrounding Vomvalysts with other people. Most likely, host loaded Cetus faster than I did, and disconnected - and I lost all the items from the connection error that came from that.

The suggestion I wanted to present was to tweak a little bit how Free Roaming is handled in the Plains. To me, it doesn't make sense for a "free roam" map to have victory conditions, only under which you can have the rewards and items you have collected. All I wanted is for something to be done about the approach to this, since as it is right now, this free-roaming mission just seems like another mission node with vague victory conditions.

I had already finished the main quests available to me as of now, have almost all planets open (with the exception of Eris). One thing my veteran friend told me I could attempt in order to satisfy my number crunching needs was to collect Intact Sentient Cores from the Vomvalysts at night from the Plains, in order to progress my standing with the Quills to get a better Amp and Revenant's quest. After a little bit of procrastination (and worries that my computer might not run the new remastered Plains as well as it did before - potato PC user), I decided to wait for the right night cycle (which I personally think it does not make sense to last less than the day cycle).

I went ahead, started a mission, joining a squad already going after some cores - though they were killing the Teralyst, which I was definitely not doing as much damage and progress as I wished; but I still managed to get a good haul of 70 more cores and we even managed to kill the Sentient. I had 70+ cores, a few Exceptional Cores, and even a Sentient Shard. It felt nice to see the giant being brought down, as someone who never bothered to come back to the Plains after Saya's Sigil. As I saw that the Plains were "free roam", I was somewhat worried when I checked menu options. The "Abort Mission" option still had warnings about losing progress, and suddenly an extraction green bubble popped up on the map. I started to feel weary, since the last time I went over to those "from open world to hub city" loading zones - back in Fortuna - I spent a good 15 minutes waiting for my poor machine to load the maps, all under a really bad framerate. And then, it happened: I had lost connection to the host of the mission, and got sent back to my Orbiter. The mission was a failure, and I lost all of the haul from the Sentient.

Once again, I'm an unexperienced player with a bad computer; if any of my complaints fall under ignorance, I ask that it is taken lightly and I would like to know better about it, so it's not just a "this is wrong to me, fix it" type of suggestion.

Your thread is really long and drawn out for what you wanted to say. A simple: ‘can DE allow our rewards to be saved in free roam’ would have been so much better. You have far, far too much information that no one will care about.

Conservation, fishing, mining and bounty rewards are saved. You can abort and keep them (you may have to put the tool away first). Sentient items are not. I have no idea why DE hasn’t changed this yet.

  • The other types do have a save point. When the tool is sheathed or the bounty reward is granted.

If your PC can’t handle it, I recommend you stay away from Open Worlds until you have a better rig. Open world progression is not mandatory (except The Quills, but you can farm sentient cores from The Sentients at Lua).

You can also leave the squad in free roam to prevent The Host from screwing you because they leave as soon as they loaded out of the game.

But I have to agree that the game should save your progress every x minute during an open world session

how exactly is that too much information? it's the guy/gal's first post. they gave context onto why they think this should be added and provided a decent argument.

to OP: i agree with you, rewards should absolutey be saved on a frequent and regular basis in a large free roam area.

Yeah, that's a hard way to approach it. I am still somewhat afraid of Eidolons and such, but Eidolon-hunting seems like a nice endgame prospect for me, and I'd like to approach it soon. Though, I won't be able to upgrade my machine too soon, and didn't want to be left out from this part of the game that much. From the amount of cores I got from that session in the plains, it seems way easier to get them from the plains than from Lua.

Would it be better if I edited it out?

You could just add a TLDR. That’s what most do.

All we need to know is the change you want: loot saving (the sensible thing that should be there already but isn’t). Having a not suitable PC is also useful to know.
