Overwatch fan using Warframe's movements in workshop to use in Overwatch?

I'm in a Warframe facebook group and while I was browsing I saw this post about Overwatch fan using warframe's movement on workshop to use in Overwatch. Isn't this illegal to "take" or "use" warframe's movement into different game without any permission?

Heck not to mention Blizzard and Overwatch and even it's community is already in such a bad place so why do this?

I got the link to the source too.

Eh it's already in the link.

So you see this is a fanmade thing and either are intentionally trying to start a S#&$storm for no reason, or you didn't do your research.

Game mechanics are not privy to copyright law. Now if they pulled WFs animation rigging verbatim, you might have something. But recreation is not illegal.

True but still imo there should be at least some credit for DE

This post is the definition of clickbait.. either post what was actually said or don't post at all..

The scary thing is I don't think it is clickbait. Given the rest of the content of the OP I think this person honestly thinks that this is a "bad" thing even though someone paying homage to Warframe by creating its movement in Overwatch would be views my most people as something that is "cool".

Hey not trying to start whatever you think, I'm posting about what's happening and to have other's to know about it

It's true that it's giving Warframe more fame(?) but I haven't seen any post or news from DE regarding this news. That's why I posted it. Who knows Blizzard might go and say DE stole Overwatch's "movement" from them like what Bungie said few years back.

So we should know about a "theft" that isn't actually happening is what you're saying. The article you posted disproved it before the other comments here further disproved it.

So again, you're either intentionally trying to start something over nothing or you don't actually know what's going on.

That's quite a stretch there, don't ya think?

If warframes main contribution to games history is more games with bullet jump. Cool. But I've been diving and shooting things while slowly falling since Max Payne. WF just upped the scale. Tons of games have had wall running before WF too, and later poor Titan Fall 2 had some of the best around. There is nothing to be up in arms about.

That mod is there sure. But what is it's reception been to overwatch players? Is it even popular? Recreating a conclave like setting seems pretty niche for any game. And even if it is super popular...

Oh no, all those pvp players we will lose! 😮 ...🤔

DE will collectively salute that modder, "Now we never have to update conclave" 🎉

Not a stretch but that did happened. Bungie did said and even tried to take legal action. And heck I wouldn't put it past Blizzard to pull same stuff knowing their history of messing with their games and community.

Sure bullet jumping and stuff isn't what warframe first did but the guy did said he "used" warframe's movements to overwatch on workshop. And think about it peeps at DE worked hard to make all those bullet jumping and parkour moves yet this guy just takes the files and used it on workshop without any permission from DE.

And not to mention knowing Blizzard's history they might try and do the same as Bungie did few years back when they said that DE "stole" their content from them and they even tried to use legal method and lost.

So what I'm trying to do here is just to make sure let the people know about this. Nothing more and less. And I see some people say that I'm trying to do click bait and stuff but unfortunately no, I don't give a damn whether people see this or not.

I mean, you’re the one that posted it. You can pretend you don’t want people to see it all you like. You posted it, so you must want people to see it.

OAnyone with any sense at all would know about dates. If this workshop thing used Warframe’s files (or just copied the idea) it would have been done after Warframe had it already. It’s pretty hard to accuse someone of stealing from you when they had it first.

"Used" in this case seems to mean the mechanic ideas. Since :

"Players can also pull of “Bullet Jumps” which seem similar to Hanzo’s directional leap and activate bullet time when they hold the secondary fire button."

he repurposed already existing overwatch moves.

No, I don't believe it is.

Mechanics aren't under any form of copyright, to my knowledge, as they're akin to words or notes of music. Sure, you could theoretically invent a new word (or very theoretically, a new kind of musical note). Otherwise Nintendo could probably copyright power-ups or health pickups or even jumping. You're only allowed to copyright ideas like characters, plots, music - these elements are the intellectual property. You're also allowed to copyright the code itself. However the mechanics used - the expression of that code - aren't allowed to be copyrighted to prevent anti-competitive business practices. Basically, the mechanics aren't your considered your work - what experience you made with it and the exact method you used to make it are.

So, by producing a custom game in Overwatch like this, the creator is using different code and different intellectual property.

What's the point of this then?

You want people to know of an issue you foresee, but you don't care if people see this issue or not?

I don't think it works that way.  Few fries short of a happy meal and all that.

As I said I just posted this news by my right to free speech and publish. I don't care if people take it seriously or not.
