Why are there less people in recruitment than in regional chat?

Question

I've noticed this on PC and I've noticed on the nintendo switch. There's a substantially less amount of players in the recruitment chat than there is on regional chat or even trade chats. On the switch, there's only 30 people in my chat right now. I have literally more people in my alliance chat than in recruitment chat.

Edit: Does it only add players to the member list if they write something on the recruitment chat?

Most people prefer recruting in their clan or alliance if they can.

Plus, there isn't a whole lot of mission who REQUIRE a squad... Previously, there was the derelict, but now a single player can equip all dragons keys.
As for the eidolons or the orbs, people tend to recruit directly in Cetus or Fortuna.

So... That's why. ^^

Because there are more noobs wanting answers to "Where Baro is" or wanting a Taxi to an event, or Vets who don't really want to play but can't give up the social aspect, than there are people who really want to play the game, need a party and don't have a clan or friends active.

I think what he is asking is why it shows fewer people in the member list, You do not have to post in recruiting, but you do have to switch to it before it list you as a member of the group, region is defaulted on, many never switch to recruiting, so it shows far less.

I just did a test with a friend, if you don't send a message on the chat you do not show up in the member list, for both trading and recruitment. So I guess mistery solved. It would be nice if I could see how many people are eyeballing the chat but that doesn't seem to happen. This is on the switch so I don't know if it's a bug or something and other platforms do something different.

I believe XB1 is the same.  I think all consoles are probably the same.

This was added some 3 years ago, to prevent people from spamming PM's to random people, mainly newbies throwing out four dozen invites instead of asking recruitment chat and waiting, because they need help with a mission NOW.
