Terrible Framerate since Jovian Concord Update.

Since the last update the game runs really bad. Mostly in the low twenty fps. That's really sad considering how well it ran before and that on top of that all effects like god rays, ambient occlusion or lens flares are gone. It never looked and played as bad as it does now on Switch. 😞

The new content is overall awesome. This is just Switch specific.

All my friendd that are playing it confirm that it runs a lot worse since the last update. Especially with 3-4 players in Eidolon, Orb Vallis & Jupiter. It's almost impossible to fish or aim precisely when it stutters so badly. It runs even worse in the plains than when it launched last fall.

I can quote to this since I also noticed then poor performance when on plains specially when you go to really populated areas.. It will start ok then it will get worse until its like 5-10  fps..

This with settings on lowest and Solo Mode.. it happens also wether docked or portable.. Theres also this random pink boxes that appear on plains when you are riding archwing... Please DE can you check on this issue..? Also before 4 player party runs good with 20-30 fps even with all the effects bombarding the screen but now same issue like in plains.. It will start good then gets worse over time.. I think there are memory leaks that is happening making the switch performance worse over time..

I haven't had too many framerate drops, certainly not enough to make the game "unplayable" (whatever that means). Sure it slows down sometimes but mostly it is a pretty smooth framerate. I've also been using the Switch USB To Ethernet adapter and maybe that makes a slight difference... as long as I'm playing docked. Though I haven't seen many issues in handheld, either. Can't wait to try WF on the Switch Lite just to see how it does.

So I said above that performance was better with the late June update, but it seems to vary wildly. Sometimes my performance will be good in a squad of 4, but then sometimes on the Plains or Jupiter it feels like a slideshow. 

I was doing a simple bountry on PoE with 1 friend in Friends only mode the other day, and it was unbearably laggy. Neither of us spammed abilities or anything. 

I did another mission on Jupiter with a squad of 4 people and it was running in the single digits. Changing graphics settings didn't do anything.

I also have no idea what is happening... Last time I tried I couldn't even fish in orb vallis when i'm alone ! it just stutters so badly. and it's really hard to kill the amalgams on jupiter when the game runs so bad... completing the Nightwave challenge wasn't fun, it was fighting against the game - but in a bad way. 😞 At least other than cetus, eidolon, orb vallis, fortuna & jupiter the game seems to run fine ^^

Hey all, thanks so much for the feedback. I've already sent a message to Hermy, but I would be interested in getting some details from all of you in what could be causing this regression since the update. I can't think of anything that would have caused a serious performance impact. Any information you can provide would be very helpful.

  • Do you typically notice this perf impact while undocked? Or is this docked too?
  • Is the game installed on an SD card or directly on your kit?
  • Are you only hitting these perf issues as a host?

 

Any information you can provide would be helpful in digging. Its also worth noting that I have a hotfix on the way that will improve performance with Bolkors. Also worth noting that I believe these issues are CPU related rather than GPU, so I don't think lowering graphics quality will help. Don't think your voices have gone unnoticed, Tenno, I promise I'm digging and will do everything I can to fix

I already written my experience above but I want to contribute to this thread also.. I think all of us here suffers from the same lag issue that is happening.. Tho I will provide as mucb detail as possible and my observation.

 

My setup:

Warframe is installed on SD Card Sandisk UHS3 128 GB.. Pretty Good SD Card with still 30 GB available. 

Graphic options: Tried all max and All off symptoms doesnt change and all off doesnt help when the slow down is happening.

Player number; Solo or squad of 4.. Tho performance is worse when full party but even solo the fps is abyssmal like 10-15 fps.

When do the issue happens:

To be honest it doesnt happen as always.. Tho it happens mostly in Jupiter, Plains and when on squad of 4.. Havent tried orb vallis tho. 

The moment I load the plains it will start fine.. but sometimes as soon as theres alot of particles happening the game will start to stutter from 30 fps to 15 fps.. This seem normal before but this time it will stay that way even you go away from the scene of action.

 

Now here's my observation.. And its quite interesting. When this is happening I can see that the resolution is REALLY SHARP.. I will repeat really sharp.. It looks like the game is running at stable 720P during the slow down consistently without the dynamic resolution. Also the draw distance is really good and you will see less popup of the environment..

But this doesnt happen always. When the game is running fine.. I can see that the resolution is dynamic and becomes lower when theres.lot of action but the fps is stable and also popins on the environment is noticeable.

My Guess is that I think theres something wrong in the coding on plains at the moment. The game is forced to run at 720 fixed in which may cause the serious slowdown on the fps.. But whenever you return to cetus he fps will immediately become better and resolution will become dynamic again...

Just like to add also that this happens bot docked and Handheld..

This part is particularly interesting. Has anybody else here witnessed the same thing?

My game is also on the SD Card (SanDisk 400GB)

But I'm playing mostly undocked.

I have these issues both as a host and as a client.

I'm not sure about the resolution thing but it could be possible...

Lately I only noticed a really low resolution on cetus...

Wow, just realized this was on the Nintendo Switch forum....however, I have seen many players experiencing the same issues on PC.

If the update also drops the performance on pc maybe we should look what it changed in other places like orb vallis. (because jupiter is completely new it would be hard to find differences there) maybe run orb vallis before and after the update and compare and then look at the new changes... if you find the performance draining factor it probably also applies to jupiter & plains of Eidolon.

Great to see someone at DE on this. In the rush of TennoCon and even before, it feels like the Switch is really neglected... not sure how the other consoles feel.

It's been a while since I posted, and with Plague Star going away (or even that intermediate update), the performance improved for me significantly on the Plains. However, I am still noticing some jitter on the Plains usually around the time it changes from night to day and the sun rises. Can't say I noticed anything about the resolution there though.

I never had any problems at Jupiter (but I haven't played a whole lot), but I do get pretty consistent lag spikes on the Vallis when killing enemies crystallized by Gara's Mass Vitrify. Might be a good guinea pig.

I only play undocked and solo, and I've got my game on a 64 GB SD (feel like you'll be hard pressed to find someone that isn't playing off an SD since the Jovian Concord). Wish I could help more.

The interesting part is sometimes I actually get better FPS in the open worlds then in some tile sets. Some of the issues for the switch also seem to be an issue for pc. For example, if I’m the host my FPS will drop and become more unstable, etc. The tileset released alongside the Jovian Concord sometimes will give me unstable frames, I also find planets like Earth that utilize a lot of foliage also have the same effect. However, before the update none of these issues were a problem. Again, apologies for walking into the wrong forum haha. Your issues listed are so similar to mine I didn’t even bother reading what platform I was posting in! ^^’

Another theory could be that it doesn't run worse but we perceive it like it's running worse... maybe some way of smoothening was changed that makes frameratedrops more apparent... A framerate test would help to find this out...

Hmm. I doubt its a placebo since I am playing plains of eidolon alot.. That place uses the dynamic resolution pretty heavily to maintain the stable 30 fps on solo even at duos.. But now the thing is I know its pretty weird.. The resolution in that area is very very Sharp the draw distance is insane.. Its like its  being forced to run on docked mode even while in handheld mode (Tho in docked mode same performance issue is happening) or there are some memory leaks that is causing this to happen.. (I played lots of mmos before and this is a basic thing to happen which causes performance issues).

 

Also You can see a huge difference from 30-10 -15 fps.. Even 60-30 fps is quite noticeable already if you're a modern age gamer.. 

 

I hope DE can fix this issue in the next hotfix...

I’ve been playing a lot more on the Plains and I realized why I haven’t been feeling the lag as much: I’ve only been playing at night. The framerate drops only seem to hit during the day for me. And when I use Gara’s Mass Vitrify.

I came here to make this exact same post.  

THESE FRAMRATES ARE HORRIBLE!!!

I've started playing again on PC and even PS4 for my kid and there is a HUGE difference.  Textures, framrates, overall quality of life on the other platforms is VASTLY BETTER.  I understand that a LOT of that is because the switch pales badly in comparison when it comes to graphics power, but man, if there is ANYTHING that can be done, it needs to be done.  It sucks because I love the idea of warframe on switch.  I've started a little ghost clan I play with my daughter and she loves it as well, but looking at the experiences side by side... it's clear the switch version needs some serious help.  disable something, optimize something.. i don't know.  I'm not a coder, and even the fact that I can play at all on my switch I'm grateful for.  It's awesome.. seriously.  But smoother framerates would be a HUUUUUUUGE step forward for the switch version.
